The background to this thesis is the impact of information technology on libraries and librarywork. If information technology causes changes in the tasks and work of libraries, thenlibrary organisations should also change. It is important to engage and inform the staff if suchchanges are to succeed. This thesis investigates the notions about library tasks and librarywork among eight "middle-managers" at Linkopings Universitetsbibliotek.The investigation is based on interviews and then analysed with Soft Systems Methodology(SSM). By identifying the "Weltanschauung" of the staff, the thesis tries to create logicallydesirable and culturally feasible models of systems relevant to the situation at LinkopingsUniversitetsbibliotek.

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka hur väl webbplatsen för Karlstad Universitetsbibliotek möter studenters behov på mobila enheter, samt huruvida de anser att en biblioteksapp skulle utgöra ett behövligt komplement i framtiden. Uppsatsen riktar sig främst till Karlstads Universitetsbibliotek men kan även tänkas vara av intresse för bibliotek vid liknande lärosäten.För ändamålet upprättades två prototyper, varav den ena representerade befintlig webbplats på mobiltelefoner, medan den andra utgjorde ett exempel på hur en biblioteksapp skulle kunna se ut. Under jämförelsetester fick sedan studenter genomföra en grupprumsbokning och söka upp en elektronisk resurs i respektive prototyp samt besvara enkätfrågor.Av resultatet att döma finns ett intresse kring en biblioteksapp bland Karlstad Universitets studenter, då de gärna vill ha tillgång till bibliotekets tjänster på sina mobiltelefoner även om befintlig webbplats upplevs som krånglig på denna plattform. The aim of this thesis is to compare two time periods in thehistory of the university library in Lund and to see whatsimilarities and differences can be found. The two timeperiods will be 1883-1900 and 1933-1950. The methodsused to achieve this will be comparative method with theactor- and structure model and document analysis. Thesubjects that will be analyzed with these methods will bepersonnel and the facilities. The two questions I will try toanswer in this thesis will be: A) What similarities anddifferences can be found concerning the personnel and thefacilities in the two time periods? B) What is therelationship between the actors and the structureconcerning the personnel and the facilities like in the twoperiods?A brief background of what took place in Sweden, LundUniversity and the university library of Lund itself duringour two periods is provided.

The aim of our bachelor thesis was to study how the personnel incharge of the mobile websites at two University Libraries and thestudents at those Universities viewed the mobile websites, and iftheir views in any way differed.Our research questions were:Why have the examined Libraries chosen to offer mobilewebsites?How do the students at the examined Universities experience anduse respective mobile website?Are there differences between the staff?s intentions with themobile websites and how they are used and experienced by thestudents, and how could they be explained?Semistructured interviews were conducted with six staff membersresponsible for the mobile websites and eleven students that hadexperience in using these. The theoretical framework for thisthesis consists of Klasson?s three models for University Librarianspersonas, and the parts of Rogers theory about diffusion ofinnovations that concerns the attributes of innovations and thecommunication channels.The result of the study indicates that there are some differencesabout how the students use and experience the mobile websitesand the staffs intentions for them. The students required contentwhich the staff had discarded.

Swedish university libraries traditionally collect recreational readingmaterial only to support the teaching and research interests of theirinstitutions. However many university libraries hold a substantial yetunspecified collection of popular fiction. This thesis investigates theextent of these collections and examines academic librarians' viewsabout students' recreational reading in the academic context and theirattitudes towards the role of fiction and of readers' advisory inacademic libraries. The theoretical framework includes literature andresearch about the benefits of reading for pleasure, collections' rolesand readers' advisory strategies. The empirical material was gatheredthrough quantitative surveys sent to academic librarians in Sweden.The results show that academic librarians are positive about thebenefits of recreational reading for university students.

The aim of this master thesis is to examine the opinions of the students of Linköping University regarding the role of the university library in their learning process. The study addresses the student?s expectations and satisfaction regarding the library services. The questions we seek to answer are: What are the students? conceptions of Linköping University Library as a part of their learning process? What expectations do the students have regarding Linköping University Library? Does the library fulfil the students? expectations? In what way has the library?s pedagogical ambition reached the students? What are the students? opinions about the user education? The study is based on a web survey complemented with interviews.

The main purpose of this Master Thesis is to describe students experiences of learning with Webquest för barnmorskor (Webquest for midwifes) at the University Library of Karolinska Institutet (KI), Stockholm. To investigate the possibilities of acquiring information literacy in higher education with the webquest model a qualitative case study is carried out, based on five interviews with students. The students? perceptions of the webquest course and their ideas on information seeking and information literacy are being analyzed in relation to a framework of learning theory and information literacy expressed by documents and librarians of KI. A descriptive presentation is structured from the main themes that emerged in analysis within the frames of my research questions.

Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att ta reda på vilket sätt de fysiska miljöerna på två Universitetsbibliotek (Umeå Universitetsbibliotek och Skogsbiblioteket) påverkar studiemotivationen hos dem som studerar där. För att skaffa mig kunskap om detta har jag både gjort intervjuer med studenter och anställda, och observationer på de två biblioteken. Tidigare forskning inom ämnesområdena användarvänlighet, biblioteksarkitektur och ?planering, arkitekturpsykologi och rummets betydelse för studiemotivation har även används som grund för min studie.Mina resultat visar att de fysiska miljöerna på biblioteken har både positiva och negativa effekter på de studerandes studiemotivation. Det som avgör om effekterna är positiva eller negativa är en rad olika aspekter - utrymme, belysning, färg, ljudnivå, inomhusklimat, studieplatser, datorer, konstverk och växter.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to gain insights into students? usage and attitudes towards electronic articles and electronic books and how students feel about a change from print collections to digital collections at Växjö University Library. The main questions are: How do different groups of students use the library collections of electronic articles and electronic books? What factors influence the usage of the library collections of electronic articles and electronic books among students? What are the students? experiences of reading electronic books in comparison with reading print books? What would different groups of students think if the literature they need for their studies were purchased in electronic form instead of print? To answer the questions a user study was carried out at Växjö university library. A web survey was sent to students that had a library card and an email address registered at the library.

The intention of this essay is to describe the problems with loss of books at three Swedish University libraries. It?s based on interviews with librarians. The library codes of ethics, the library law and the terms of reference of the libraries are central for my understanding. Interview results: Little was being done to stop theft.

I slutet av 2011 påbörjade Umeå Universitetsbibliotek arbetet med att undersöka hur många som vistades i deras lokaler. Undersökningen visade att den tysta läsesalen (läsesal 1)1 för det mesta stod tom. Under sommaren 2012 genomgick därför salen en mindre renovering för att göra den mer gästvänlig, öppen och ljus. En arkitektfirma anlitades för att ta fram ett nytt kulör- och inredningsförslag. Salen målades om, antalet studieplatser minskades och möblerades om och flera av dem byttes ut mot fåtöljer.Syftet med denna undersökning var att utvärdera den nyrenoverade tysta läsesalen på Umeå Universitetsbibliotek, med utgångspunkt i studenternas upplevelser av det fysiska rummet och dess betydelse för studiemiljön.Metoden bestod av en kvantitativ enkätundersökning samt två mindre kvalitativa undersökningar i form av en observationsstudie och två intervjuer.

The aim of this Master thesis was to examine how libraries at Swedish colleges and universities make Open Access journals in physics available to users. We examined if, where, and how the 50 Open Access journals that are listed in the Directory of Open Access (DOAJ) under the heading Physics (General) were made available to the public at 19 Swedish colleges and universities. We also examined possible patterns regarding qualities in the Open Access journals and to what extent the libraries made them available. For this descriptive statistic was used. The selection of library portals that were included in the study were those Swedish colleges and universities that teach physics.

The purpose of this essay was first and foremost to find out the problems that exist around user education in a university library and the opportunities that exist for university librarians to improve their work with students. My method of use was qualitative and more precise qualitative interviews. By interviewing five teaching librarians with five different subject specializations, I wanted to get an an-swer to what they teach when they meet the students and how they view their teaching. Responses resulted then in an analysis using Christine Bruce's theory of information literacy and Carol C. Kuhlthaus theory of librarian roles and her theory of information retrieval process.

This study aims to find out how the selection and acquisitions of ebooks made by university libraries is affected by vendors terms of sale. The empirical data is based on interviews with libraries working with selection and acquisition of ebooks. The interviews points out, according to Evans? model of collection development, that the collection development doesn´t work the same way with printed and electronic books. The study also finds out that the complexity of the ebook marketplace implies the application of new method of ebook selection, by libraries..

Under våren 2013 infördes en ny söktjänst, en så kallad discoverytjänst, vid Umeå Universitetsbibliotek (UB) och Medicinska biblioteket (MB). Discoverytjänster är ett användargränssnitt för informationssökning som ger användaren möjlighet att utifrån en enkel sökruta söka parallellt i alla bibliotekets resurser, utgångspunkten är att kombinera en Google-lik sökning med bibliotekets stora mängd av informationsresurser. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur undervisningen i informationssökning vid UB och MB påverkas vid införandet av den nya söktjänsten, hur undervisningen kan utvecklas vidare med utgångspunkt från söktjänsten samt om begreppet informationskompetens förändras vid införandet av en discoverytjänst. Undersökningen tar utgångspunkt i pedagogisk teori och teorier om informationskompetens samt tidigare forskning om discoverytjänster med fokus på användning av dessa verktyg i undervisning på bibliotek. Undersökningen utfördes genom en kombination av kvalitativa metoder.
