I vårt examensarbete har vi undersökt bildens påverkan på barns läsutveckling. Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på hur barn använder sig av bilder när de läser texter samt hur bild tillsammans med text kan påverka läsinlärningen. För att ta reda på våra frågeställningar har vi intervjuat barn i årskurs två kring olika bilder. Med bilden som utgångspunkt har vi studerat litteratur som berör området. I undersökningen kom vi fram till att bilder är en viktig del till läsförståelsen och att barnen använder sig av bilder när de läser.

Hur kan man använda sig av informationsdesignsprinciper för att formge layouten på en mjölkförpackning? Vilket formspråk används inom mjölkförpackningslayout, och hur visualiserar man ett företags varumärke genom bid och text? The research in this thesis attempts to understand what happens when children (3-6 years of age) interact with each other in the context of free play in two pre-school settings when adults are not involved. The aim of the study was to get a closer look at how children create relationships and how they protect and defend their interactional spaces. Data was gathered through ethnographically inspired methodology, using video observation to capture the everyday interactions of the children. Results were analyzed using a phenomenological approach to peer cultures. Previous research suggests that it is very important for children to maintain their interactions with peers and gaining access to play.

This Master?s thesis examines different retrieval strategies used in cross-language information retrieval (CLIR). The aim was to investigate if there were any differences between baseline queries and translated queries in retrieval effectiveness; how the retrieval effectiveness was affected by query structuring and if the results differed between different languages. The languages used in this study were Swedish, English and Finnish. 30 topics from the TrecUta collection were translated into Swedish and Finnish.

Läxor har alltid varit en del av skolan och synen på läxor under årens gång varierat historiskt. Från början av 1900-talet var läxor viktiga för fostran och läxor har handlat om fakta som ska nötas in. Under 1940- talet dyker kraftiga motreaktioner dyker upp mot läxor. 1962 skrivs läxor in i läroplanen och de var mycket detaljerat skrivet för hur läxorna ska utföras. Inom Lgr80 får läxan ett uppsving och en strängare ton, men i och med Lpo94 så skrivs läxor ut ur kursplanen.

The aim of this study is to examine the collection One Thousand and One Nights (also: The Arabian Nights) from a european perspective, by comparing different european translations. The study focuses on three translations into Swedish from different periods of time and how the tales have changed in the translation process - depending on the prevailing line of approach and Western perceptions of Eastern standards. The thesis of the study is that Eastern culture, from a Western perspective, has been seen as exotic and different but not as a high literary culture and that this view has affected the translations into european languages. The study shows, among other things, that Western culture is many times considered normative in the translations and that the translators often give their own voices a prominent role, also that common Western notions of the East affects the translations.The word ?orientalism? is used frequently in the study and it refers primarily to the image of the Orient as it is described in Edward Saids' book Orientalism: as a Western construction whose main purpose is to strengthen its own conception of the Orient and thereby strengthen the Western identity as better than the Orient.

Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att utföra de la Fuente et al:s (2014) experiment med priming av temporalt fokus hos arbisktalande individer med svenska som andraspråk. De frågor som undersöks är i vilken utsträckning de la Fuente et al:s temporalfokushypotes är generaliserbar till fler språkgrupper än spansktalande, vilka primingeffekterna blir hos individerna, samt vilka faktorer som inverkar på det temporala fokuset utöver primingen. Metoden är att återupprepa det experiment de la Fuente et al. gjort med spansktalande, genom att återutföra det på en grupp arabisktalande individer med svenska som andraspråk. Resultatet av föreliggande studies upprepning av de la Fuentes experiment på arabisktalande, visar att primingeffekterna uteblir, men att faktorer som vistelsetid och ålder inverkar påvisbart på tidsrepresentationen.

Etthundratrettio miljoner läkemedelsförpackningar säljs årligen i Sverige. Varje förpackning inkluderar en bipacksedel om det specifika läkemedlet. Bipacksedeln är utformad utifrån EU-direktivet 92/27EEC. Cirka trettio procent av alla läkemedelsanvändare läser bipacksedeln. Anledningen till varför patienterna inte läser den, beror på att bipacksedelns text är svår läsa och förstå.

All my short stories have been written in an intuitive way according to which no outline of characters, intrigue or plot was made in advance. A consequence of this process is that not even myself as the author is aware of the meaning of the texts and therefore I too have to interpret the stories. Because of the character of the text, I use an analysis of archetypes according to C. G. Jung?s analytic psychology.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion, OTEC, is a sustainable energy conversion technology that is not yet commercialized. OTEC is a technology that utilizes the temperature difference in oceans between the warm surface water and the cold water at 1 000 m depth to run a Rankine Cycle. This technology can produce electricity and provide synergies like fresh water, air conditioning and aquaculture. A simulation program for three alternative OTEC systems has been created in order to decide which OTEC system is most profitable; closed, open or hybrid system. In this simulation a production cost analysis is performed in order to investigate and decide which one of the three systems that has the lowest production cost. The production cost analysis also analyzes if the profitability is affected by the size of the facility. After these analyzes, the most profitable of the three different OTEC-systems is expanded by an installation of solar collectors in order to see if the thermal efficiency is improved. The result shows that the most profitable system varies with the size of the facility.

This essay deals with how the development of society, the media society in particular, has an impact on the teaching of the subject of art. In the society of today, we are bombarded with more images than ever before. As an effect of this, the curriculum of 2011 emphasises the importance of the ability to orientate oneself in the modern society. Furthermore, it describes art not only as a practical subject, but also as a verbal and community-orientated subject. Because of sparse and dated research, the subject of art is in danger of marginalization as a school subject. The purpose of this study is to illustrate art teachers? conception of the aim of the subject of art.

We were commissioned to do this study by the Red Cross Centre for victims of torture and war (RKC) in Skövde and questions was asked about how it can be to come as a refugee to a new country and start over. The purpose of this study was to search for a deeper knowledge about older immigrants experiences of their integration in the Swedish community. The conception of ?older immigrant? aimed of persons born before 1954 since these persons culturally was the older ones in the patient group at RKC. This study handled both men and women, was categorised in different themes and was analysed from theoretical points about identity and crises.

AbstractThe purpose of this investigation was to understand how teachers/pedagogues nowadays work with mathematics in school. In what way can they pin point the difficulties a pupil with another language might have with mathematics.I started the process of this investigation by reading litterature on the subject. Then I did interviews with several teachers and pedagogues teaching in different schools with children at different ages.The results found in my investegation pointed to a lack of practical work with mathematics especially in classroom and revealed from the teachers a strong desire to work with mathematics in different ways.?Talking maths? with pupils in class will help them understand the subject better. Several teachers are of the opinion that the pupils will reach the goals in school with this method.The teachers are also aware of the importance of having practical mathematics.

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to accomplish an understanding for childrens librarians purchases of juvenile books. Two main questions are to be answered: - Which considerations do childrens librarians do when buying juvenile books and which goals and motives are behind their purchases? - What do childrens librarians think that their knowledge and competence consists of and how is that knowledge useful when buying juvenile books? To answer the questions qualitative interviews with five childrens librarians have been carried out. The material has been analyzed through a theoretical construction consisting of theories about collection development, book selection and quality judgments. The conception tacit knowledge silent knowledge from Michael Polanyi has also been used for interpretation.
