Steen, Karl (2010). Engelska som demokratiämne: En analys av två läroböcker. (English as a Subject that Promotes Democracy: An Analysis of two Textbooks). Syftet med föreliggande uppsats är att granska två läromedel i engelska för gymnasieskolans kurs A i förhållande till perspektivet engelska som demokratiämne. Jag har valt textanalys som metod.

2011 fick den svenska skolan nya styrdokument att förhålla sig till och arbeta efter. Nu finns begrepp som sexualitet, relationer, kön, identitet, jämställdhet och normer inskrivet i de nya ämnesplanerna för gymnasieskolan. Förändringen innebär att ansvaret för undervisningen i sexualitet och relationer, tidigare sex- och samlevnadsundervisningen, inkluderas i flera ämnen och därmed vilar också ett ansvar på lärarna i berörda ämnen. Rektorn har dock, precis som tidigare, det övergripande ansvaret för att styrdokumenten följs. I denna empiriska studie har vi undersökt hur lärare på gymnasienivå tolkar att de ska undervisa i sexualitet och relationer inom ramen för ämnet samhällskunskap.

The purpose of this essay is to present research-based literature and in that find basic practics that benefit the process of reading comprehension in the further reading. To get a broader perspective and a practical school related, we also held a small empirical study in the form of interviews with six active teachers. We discussed among other things, what reading means, the use of Textbooks, how the reading process is conducted and so on. The results were correlated against the reported literature and the curriculum. It revealed a gap between theory and practice.

AbstraktDetta examensarbete handlar om språkval engelska/svenska, alternativet för de elever som av olika anledningar väljer att inte läsa ett modernt språk. En undersökning har gjorts i form av intervjuer med lärare och en skolledare samt en enkätstudie med elever, för att få fram en bild av hur de ser på språkvalet och dess funktion. Syftet med arbetet är att söka svar på just detta, samt ta reda på vilka elever det är som går i dessa grupper och hur tiden utnyttjas där. De svar jag fått fram tyder på att både elever och lärare ser brister i organisationen; det är en relativt stökig miljö och många elever som finns i grupperna har egentligen inget behov av extra engelska eller svenska. Alla är dock i princip överens om vilket syfte undervisningen har: att stötta de elever som behöver hjälp med dessa två ämnen.

Within years it revolutionized material science and converted the theoretical foundations of modern chemistry, and to some extent even biology, to physics? new branch, molecular physics. Merger of relativistic and quantum physics soon led to the development of quantum field theory and a deeper understanding of the elementary constituents of matter. Part of this development found its way into high school Textbooks as early as in the 1950s.

The attacks of September 11, 2001 have done more to focus attention on the conjunction of religion and conflict than any other event in recent history. Although much international research has focused since then on the role of Islam, religiously inspired violence is also found in countries as diverse as Thailand, Burma, or Sri Lanka, where Buddhism plays a central role. This paper addresses how these realities are reflected in two Swedish high school Textbooks on religion. The thesis calls into question the manner in which Buddhism is presented in schoolbooks as the most probable candidate to be a conflict-free religion.Using Fairclough?s discourse analysis theoretical framework and Hellspong?s structural analysis, the thesis critically examines the relationship between text, the discourse practice in which text is produced and the wider social practices.

Syftet med detta arbete är att visa på hur man kan lyfta fram ett genusperspektiv i historieundervisningen och i historieläromedel. Denna studie är baserad på en statlig rapport som utkom år 2010. SOU-rapporten visar på ett alarmerande resultat kring genusuppdelningen i dagens läroböcker i historia. I merparten av böckerna är det fortfarande männens och de övre samhällsskiktens historia som berättas. Detta trots att det idag finns modern forskning att tillgå inom historieforskningen som berättar kvinnornas, barnens och den ordinära människans historia.

The purpose of this study is to examine, from a gender perspective, Utbildningsradions TV-program Hej Litteraturen! in the light of feminist literature studies conducted during the last twenty years. I want to examine if the feminist literature studies have had any impact on contemporary teaching material regarding the question of how much space in time is given to men versus women and which female authors are included in the literary canon. Hej Litteraturen! is a TV program produced in 2010 intended for high school teaching of literature history.   By conducting a content analysis in which I divide the study in a quantitative and a qualitative component, I have investigated how much space and time is given to female writers and how they are presented. My analysis draws on use Yvonne Hirdman?s theory of the gender system.   The result shows that the female authors get 37 percent of the total reference space and 42 percent of the time-space. The program has sought to describe male and female authors equally and gives them weight and relevance to the sections in a similar manner.    In conclusion, Hej Litteraturen! is a tutorial which embraces parts of the criticisms that have existed in historical literature review papers in general and literary history Textbooks in particular. Hej Litteraturen! has worked on gender aspects of the program and by picking up contemporary authors as reference points for literary history in the present, the program contributes not only not only in renewing the literary canon, but also in balancing out the dominance of male writers in the history of literature..

The aim of this paper is to elucidate and analyze history teacher's didactic choices in the conflict between unequal educational materials and the requirements of equality in the curriculum of Swedish secondary school. The empirical data consists of interviews with five secondary school history teachers, observations of their lessons as well as analysis of their tests. The starting point was to investigate teachers' didactic work in the role as a bridge between the non-equal historiography presented in Textbooks in history and the curriculum?s demands for equality. Three different approaches have been observed in the teachers' didactic work when considering gender perspective into their teaching: that women become extensions in a male-dominated historiography; that another part of the story is presented when a gender perspective is considered; and that the gender perspective is included in history teaching and becomes an integral part of all the content of the subject.Several of the teachers acknowledged that gender equality is less prioritized than the courses core content and related assessment criteria.

Den här uppsatsen studerar läroböcker anpassade för gymnasieskolans grundkurser i samhällskunskap för att undersöka läroböckernas beskrivning av politiskt deltagande. Syftet är att undersöka om läroböckerna uppmuntrar till politiskt deltagande. Ytterligare syften är att undersöka om läroböckerna fokuserar på någon form av det politiska deltagandet samt om det finns någon skillnad mellan läroböckerna för de praktiska- respektive de teoretiska programmen. Utifrån tidigare forskning och teori skapades ett analysschema. Analysschemat innehåller fyra fält: parlamentariskt kollektivt politiskt deltagande, parlamentariskt individuellt politiskt deltagande, utomparlamentariskt kollektivt politiskt deltagande samt individuellt utomparlamentariskt deltagande.

Syftet med undersökningen är att utifrån begrepp som objektivitet, aktör, individ, struktur, kön och förmedlande, kunna åskådliggöra eventuella förändringar mellan olika läroböcker. Undersökningen baserar sig på sex olika läroböcker tagna ifrån tre olika läroplansperioder Lgr 69, Lgr 80 och Lpo 94. Undersökningen består av både en kvalitativ och kvantitativ analys. Frågeställningen för undersökningen är: Kan man i läroböckerna se ett samband mellan innehåll och gällande läroplaner utifrån nämnda begrepp? Metoden för undersökningen utgår ifrån begreppen, objektivitet, aktör, individ, struktur, kön och förmedlande.

This paper is a Master thesis for the Master?s program in International and European Relations in the Department of Management and Economics at Linköping University. As the title indicates, the aim of this thesis is to make a comparative analysis of the conflict resolution initiatives that were employed in the Sierra Leonean and Liberian conflicts. The research questions are: ? What were the root causes and trajectories of the Sierra Leonean and Liberian conflicts? ? What were the conflict resolution initiatives employed in resolving both conflicts? ? Why did the Lome Peace Accord succeed in the case of Sierra Leone whilst the Abuja Peace Accord failed in bringing peace to Liberia? In order to answer the afore-mentioned questions and fulfil the aim of this paper, a qualitative research method has been chosen.
