Kvantfysikens grunder i Gy2011

En tolkning av kursplaner för fysik 1 och 2

AbstractThe beginning of the 20th century gave birth to quantum physics. Within years it revolutionized material science and converted the theoretical foundations of modern chemistry, and to some extent even biology, to physics? new branch, molecular physics. Merger of relativistic and quantum physics soon led to the development of quantum field theory and a deeper understanding of the elementary constituents of matter. Part of this development found its way into high school textbooks as early as in the 1950s. Since then not much has happened with respect to modern physics in the Swedish school books.  This is despite the fact that the frontiers of experimental physics have moved deep into the territory of classical philosophy and a whole new branch of physics, physics information has developed. Physics of information merges philosophical questions about realism and locality of Nature with practical technological applications in information technology. It strongly relies on the conceptual foundations of quantum physics. This work reports a search for a suitable placement of the foundations of quantum physics in the framework of the Swedish upper high school physics curriculum. The physics curriculum was analyzed with the objective of finding scope for coherent presentation of the foundations of quantum physics in the physics courses Physics 1 and Physics 2. The analysis was followed by a draft proposal for the teaching sequences, which would reach the goal. The draft was subsequently sent to a selection of experts for a review in a Delphi-study spirit. The experts' comments led to the formulation of a revised proposal for the teaching sequences and their possible placement in the respective physics courses.
