Många äldre industriområden har genomgått en omvandling för att möta dagens behov, men samtidigt har platsernas själ och historia bevarats genom återanvändning av byggnaderna. Malmö befinner sig idag i en övergång från en stad som varit beroende av industrier till att utvecklas mot en kunskapsstad, vilket gör gamla industriområden aktuella för nya användningsområden. Eftersom Malmös invånarantal ständigt ökar, krävs det att mark inom staden utnyttjas för ny bebyggelse. Järnvägsverkstäderna i nordöstra Malmö är ett äldre industriområde från förra sekelskiftet som haft en betydande roll för staden, men med tiden har förutsättningarna ändrats. Förr dominerades de stora ytorna av järnvägstrafik och industrier som utnyttjade tågförbindelsen, men med tidens gång har platsens lokalisering blivit alltmer central och har idag goda utvecklingsmöjligheter. Genom att området har dominerats av järnvägstrafik för industrier kännetecknas området fortfarande av stora byggnader och rälsdragningar.

The primary ambition of this degree thesis is to create a representative outdoor environment that surrounds Malmö Konsthall (Malmö art center) which reflects the amazing inside of the artcenter. During this work it has become more and more obvious that Magistratsparken, which is situated right next to the artcenter, ought to be incorporated into this project. This thesis aims to examine the possibilities of implementing temporary outdoor artshows on this site. First; is there any interest in exhibiting art at this site? And secondly, if that is the case, what are the spatial needs and how can you prepare the place for future exhibitions and still keep its flexibility for different kinds of art forms to comfortably perform at this site?.

De offentliga rummen är de platser i staden som är tillgängliga för oss alla. Dess betydelse har varierat med åren. De har alltid varit betydande platser för maktuttryck från stat och kyrka men också platser där folket uttryckt sin vilja i demonstrationer och aktioner. Parkerna började dyka upp i Sverige under 1800-talet då städerna växte och borgarklassen fick mer resurser och fritid. De senaste årtiondena har våra offentliga miljöer många gånger fått komma i andra han i stadsplaneringen, fokus har länge legat på objekten och inte på vad som finns emellan dem. I Karlskrona har länge stora delar av staden varit stängda för allmänheten på grund av militären och det är också det militära som till stor del styrt stadsbyggandet.

The national spatial planning guidelines and the subsequent legal regulation in the Natural Resources Act and the Environmental Code has been a part of the Swedish planning system for almost 40 years. In the recent years, critics have claimed that the regulations are outdated and does not work the way it was intended. This paper examines closer why it is perceived that the regulations does not work, with a focus on how the national interests are managed in the municipal planning. Why is the national interests not applied in the municipal planning as intended? Is the error in the system or in the implementation of it? The aim of this essay is to study the gap between theory and practice by studying how the land management provisions in the Environmental Code is applied in five selected municipalities.

Elective joint surgery increases for every year and the operations are associated with postoperative pain. Postoperative pain is a well known phenomenon and pain physiology and analgesics are well known by caregivers, but the significance of the interaction between patient and caregiver is not illuminated. There are still patients experiencing unnecessary postoperative pain. Among patients in elective surgery, 25% runs a risk for underestimated pain. The aim of the study was to describe patient?s experiences of nursing interaction in the context of postoperative pain during hospitalisation after going through knee- or hiparthropasty.

This report describes a comparative study about reading- and writing development in ?A-towns school? in The Gambia and in ?Villaskolan? in Sweden.The purpose of this study is to compare two teachers in Sweden with two teachers and two volunteers from the school in Gambia, with focus on their thoughts and methods on teaching reading and writing at each school and in their social context. The aim is also to observe and describe how classroom environment at both schools can encourage students to read and write.The theoretical base of this study is rooted in a sociocultural perspective but I have also chosen to illuminate behaviorism and cognitivism. The study is qualitative and the main research methods are interviews and observations of the classrooms.My conclusions are, even though considerable differences in approach and conditions, teachers in both schools work hard and show dedication towards their students.Another finding is that teachers use different techniques and working methods to achieve the same goal -to teach their students to read and write based on what is required of them in their cultural and social context. The different ways of teaching have been caused by the existence of different perceived needs based on culture and tradition.One conclusion is also that read and write requirements for students in the Gambia and Sweden are different from each other.

Under senare år har förändringar i stadsmiljön ofta inneburit förnyelse av områden som tappat sin tidigare huvudfunktion. På många håll i Sverige skapas nya stadsdelar där det tidigare funnits industrier, varv eller traditionell hamnverksamhet. Handelshamnen i Karlskrona är ett hamnstråk på Trossös nordöstra sida där största delen av hamnverksamheten flyttat till annan plats och området står nu inför en stadsförnyelse. Huvudproblemet är att hamnen är isolerad från staden och den ursprungliga världsarvsklassade stadsplanen fullföljs inte i hamnen. Syftet med arbetet är att utveckla Handelshamnen till en attraktiv och levande del av staden, vilket kommer resultera i en illustrationsplan. Två olika trianguleringar har använts som bakgrund till illustrationsplanen.

Det pågår ständigt förändringar i samhällsstrukturen som får effekter på många olika nivåer. Det har skett en övergång från jordbrukssamhälle till industrisamhälle och till kunskapssamhälle. Industriarbetarnas andel av befolkningen minskar till förmån för kunskaps- och servicebaserad verksamhet. Parallellt med denna utveckling har industrin lämnat efter sig stora landsarealer som är välförsedd med infrastruktur. På många platser runt om är det idag vanligt att mark i staden blir tillgänglig på grund av industrins strukturomvandlingar.

The aim of this two years master's thesis is to examine whether there are any gender based differences in the waymale and female researchers within library and information science publish and reference to other researchers.This within the Swedish context. Further, the aim is to examine the probability of gender playing a part in choiceof subject, which thereby also would effect the act of referencing. This is achieved through an analysis ofreference lists in the journal Svensk Biblioteksforskning between the years 1989 to 2009. The journal containsboth peer reviewed articles, as well as articles of a more popular scientific kind. As guidance during the study, ahandful of questions were used.

The aim of this study was to examine how social policy is created in a local context on the basis of the situation regarding the begging EU migrants in Kalmar, Sweden. The last few years the number of begging EU migrants has increased in Sweden. Most of them are Roma with a history of exclusion and discrimination. To reach our goal we interviewed three managers from the social Services representing the local authorities. We also did four interviews with people from three non-profit organizations in Kalmar.

This thesis examines source criticism and critical thinking among upper secondary school students in social science in three different schools in Sweden. Our particular focus lies in investigating the student's critical thinking skills and evaluation of digital sources when they work independently with different projects. How do students value and sort the information they find? We looked furthermore at what factors that may influence students in their evaluation of sources. Moreover, the purpose of this thesis to investigate how the student's critical thinking skills can be used as tools to become more information literate in a learning context.

The following study is a comparative analysis on the usage of history in Ridley Scott?s epic Kingdom of Heaven. Based on the thesis that this movie has a lot to say about contemporary political values, it compares the theatrical version from 2005 with the 45 minute extended Director?s Cut, which came out on DVD in 2006. Firmly based in the popular-cultural context I tried to evaluate whether these changes related in any way, to matters concerning the current gender debate and post-colonial theory.

Drawing on earlier research, and using observations as the method, this study presents a design of a nature playscape for children. Applying outdoor pedagogy to the fundamental structure of a specific location, the study proposes a design of a playscape, over a more obvious design, for instance one based around a quiz walk.The theoretical framework is Gibson?s theory of affordance, and the goal has been to create a "play flow". This paper aims to describe how religion teachers in Swedish schools teach concerning questions about life issues and popular culture. To research the teachers' didactic approach to these issues, didactics has been defined with three educational questions: what, how and why. The essay focuses on teachers' effective implementation of teaching on life issues and popular culture, which we used a theory of offering meaningfulness describing what subject matter that may be imparted to the students. An offer of meaningfulness can be pursued and can be made visible in the context of what and how performs the teaching and also in the context where the teacher planned the teaching elements. The method that the paper has used is the interviews of four different active religious educators in Stockholm and Uppsala area.

This report is about how accessibility in Eskilstuna's central trade street Kungsgatan can be improved, based on my background as spatial configuration designer, and by Eskilstuna's residents' opinions. In this report I explain what methods I have used, and how I attained my results. The goal of this project was to create ideal accessibility in the central part of Kungsgatan in Eskilstuna. Since Fristadstorget was rebuilt, and since the city is growing in terms of housing and residents, accessibility will in the near future be even more limited for visitors than it is today.
