"Ett lugnt hörn nÀr det Àr kaos i vÀrlden" : en studie om varför barnprogrammet Bolibompa ser ut som det gör under och dagarna efter en katastrof

This study intends to examine why the Swedish children?s programme Bolibompa is produced the way it is during a larger catastrophe. Our intention was to find out how the editorial staff, in the children?s department in the public service television of Sweden (SVT),was handling the Estonia disaster, the September 11 attacks and the Asian Tsunami. To accomplish that, we first had to find out how the children?s programme looked during these catastrophes and also understand how the editorial staff was working with children?s programme during ordinary days.To achieve our purpose we have been interviewing five persons from SVT, who was involved in producing the children?s programme during these three catastrophes.

This thesis analyzes the media debates generated by the election of Omar Mustafa to the board of the social democratic party, and the appointment of the conservative Minister of Labour, Elisabeth Svantesson. More specifically, the aim is to analyze newspaper material through a discourse analyze, to see if and how religious affiliation effects the possibilities to act as a political representative. Theories of othering and intersectionality serve as theoretical points of departure. Further, chains of equivalence from Laclau and Mouffe?s discourse theory are used to study how categories as ?us? and ?the other? are constructed in the material, and how these processes of categorization relate to the intersection of religion, gender and ethnicity.

FramstÀllningar av tiggare & tiggeri. : En kvalitativ text- och innehÄllsanalys av debattartiklar i Dagens Nyheters mellan 3 september 2010 och 24 februari 2014.

The aim with this study was to analyze and understand how begging is constructed as a social problem in Sweden between September of 2010 and the end of February in 2014 in debate articles in Dagens Nyheter. To do this I have chosen to use a social problems theory and critical discourse analysis to highlight some aspects in the process of defining the social problem. The study's main finding is that the construction of beggars and begging appears to be in a relatively extensive redefinition in the current situation. It is shown by, for example, a shift in focus in the discourse. For this reason, it is relevant for social work to examine how the construction progresses..

Idealister eller idioter? : En studie av mediers framstÀllning av Johan Persson och Martin Schibbye under och efter fÀngslandet i Etiopien

The idea to this bachelor thesis was born after carefully following the coverage of Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye in Swedish media during their imprisonment in Ethiopia from June 2011 to September 2012. Based on our interest we designed two questions to answer throughout the thesis. These are:(1) How are Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye portrayed as journalists in the discussion about them that has taken place in Swedish media?(2) How is the journalistic profession described in the discussion about Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye in Swedish media? To answer these questions we decided to analyse texts that can be defined as the genre of opinion journalism, which all came from Swedish printed media. We have chosen 16 texts to analyse which show the variety of ways to write about Persson and Schibbye in the chosen genre during the chosen period of time. Opinion journalism is what newspapers use to attract readers, as they want to supplement the news coverage with comments and analysis from ?experts?. Persson and Schibbye were imprisoned in Ethiopia in June of 2011, and weren?t released until 15 months later, in September of 2012. To analyse our material we have amongst others used theories regarding social constructionism, representation, discourse, the journalistic identity and the journalistic ideals that exist in Swedish society.

Politikern, privatpersonen och pappan : En narrativanalys av dokumentÀrfilmerna Palme ? Àlskad och hatad & Bildt ? excellensen

Politics in today's society unfolding more and more in the media, but the media content is limited. Therefore, the media must constantly make choices, choices which are specific to each object. The purpose of this study is to examine how Olof Palme is portrayed as a politician and private individual in the documentary film Palme - Àlskad och hatad, and also how Carl Bildt is portrayed as a politician and private individual in the documentary film Bildt - excellensen.To study the documentary films I use a qualitative textual analysis with a focus on a narrative analysis. In the narrative analysis, I have been inspired by the categoricalcontent- based approach to study the documentary films. In my analysis, with the help of theories of mediatization of politics, documentaries and stories, I interpret and analyze the films to make them more understandable.The conclusions of the study is that Palme in his role as a politician is portrayed as a humane person who cares about the individual.

Medias beskrivning av RÄgsved : En diskursanalys

I min kandidatuppsats i sociologi undersökte jag hur RÄgsveds nyöppnade poliskontor uppfattades av unga mÀn som bodde och studerade i omrÄdet. I mina resultat framgick det att flera av de intervjuade upplevde att media pÄverkade samhÀllets generella uppfattning av RÄgsved och dess invÄnare pÄ ett negativt sÀtt. DÀrför Àr syftet i denna magisteruppsats att undersöka den mediala diskursen kring RÄgsved, och hur RÄgsved framstÀlls i media. UtifrÄn en socialkonstruktivistisk ansats studerades diskursers inverkan pÄ samhÀllets bild av RÄgsved. Materialet bestÄr av artiklar i tidningen Dagens Nyheter frÄn Är 2002 och 2009 för att möjliggöra en jÀmförelse och urskilja eventuella skillnader och/eller likheter mellan tvÄ tidsperioder.

SÀkerhet som hegemoni : En kritisk diskursanalys av den politiska debatten i samband med de uppmÀrksammade rymningarna frÄn kriminalvÄrden 2004

Sedan början pÄ 80-talet gÄr det att konstatera en tydlig förÀndring i den svenska kriminalpolitiken som kÀnnetecknas av mer strafftÀnkande och mindre fokus pÄ behandling och Äteranpassning av kriminella. Denna förÀndrade kriminalpolitik kÀnnetecknas bl.a. av höjda straffskalor, allt fler utdömda livstidsdomar och en ökande fÀngelsebelÀggning. Men det blir ocksÄ allt mer tydligt i den politiska retoriken att kriminalpolitiken har förÀndrats; det talas allt mer om sÀkerhet, kontroll och att anvÀnda hÄrdare tag mot brottslingarna. I uppsatsen studeras, med diskursanalys som metod, denna förÀndrade kriminalpolitik utifrÄn retoriken i den politiska debatten.

Jens Àr het och Anja kÀmpar : En jÀmförelse av genusrepresentationen i SVT:s Sportspegeln och Lilla sportspegeln

This report is an analysis of the gender representation in Swedish sports media, a comparison between sport in public service television for adults and children. The study explores the differences between the number of male and female sports in the matter of air time and also the number of male and female appearances in the TV shows. The programs studied in this report are the Swedish SVT?s Sportspegeln and Lilla sportspegeln. When we began this analysis we were under the impression that men would be over-represented, but that representation in sports television for children would be more gender equal than the adult counterpart. The result of the analysis confirmed previous studies stating that men dominate the sports programs in Swedish public service television.

Syftet med den hĂ€r uppsatsen var att undersöka hur 40-talisterna hanterar Ă„ldrandet. VĂ„ra frĂ„gestĂ€llningar lyder sĂ„ hĂ€r: att undersöka om den Ă€ldre generationen kĂ€nner sig stigmatiserad frĂ„n samhĂ€llet. Är det ?inne? att vara ung? Vad Ă€r ungdom? Vem har skapat den hĂ€r normen, och hur pĂ„verkar det de som ?inte Ă€r unga?? Det andra frĂ„gestĂ€llningen Ă€r att Ă€ven undersöka om vĂ„ra informanter utför olika Ă„tgĂ€rder för att motverka den naturliga processen av fysiskt Ă„ldrande och om sĂ„ Ă€r fallet, hur kommer dessa till uttryck? AnvĂ€nder de skönhetsprodukter? KlĂ€r de sig pĂ„ ett visst sĂ€tt och i sĂ„ fall, varför gör de det? Vi anvĂ€nde oss av kvalitativa intervjuer dĂ€r 8 informanter blev intervjuade.För att kunna analysera vĂ„rt resultat har vi anvĂ€nt oss av teorier av Bauman, Skeggs, Goffman och Giddens. Det som framlĂ€ggs i uppsatsen Ă€r att informanterna lever efter ungdomsidealet och att de anvĂ€nder olika Ă„tgĂ€rder för att kunna passa in i normen.

The study examines medias impact on every day racism through Agenda Setting and Framing. Prior studies on the subject are either conducted from an American perspective, or are several years of age. In this study we highlight how todays media depicts our society and how it affects the concept of the world on an individual level. The study is a content analysis of the case study on the news stories ?The hunt for the unregistered immigrants?, which have been analyzed through critical discourse analysis.

The climate for video sharing online is somewhere in the border of becoming a place for only the big companies to distribute material with general interest, or small communities with genre-specific interest to attract a larger audience. In this article I will look at the travelindustry to see what possibilities can be implemented into communities with interest in planning and travelling. I will argue that the importance of collaboration with different media can create a bigger picture so that more people can use and discover each other?s travel videos and experiences. I have also taken a closer look at social interaction at online communities such as MySpace and YouTube.

Studien har till syfte att undersöka hur globaliseringsdebatten ser ut i svensk media och hur den har förĂ€ndrats under de senaste 10 Ă„ren. Fokus ligger pĂ„ begreppets skilda betydelse som media skapar. Metoden bestĂ„r av en diskursanalys som bygger pĂ„ Laclou & Mouffes teorier, med fokus kring flytande signifikanter, vilket betyder att begreppet Ă€r öppen för olika betydelser och förĂ€ndlig över tid. Även en innehĂ„llsanalys som undersöker mĂ€ngden artiklar och vilka Ă€mnen som tas upp kring begreppet. Materialet bestĂ„r av fyra svenska tidningar, 95-97 jĂ€mfört med 2006.Resultatet visade att det finns konkurrerande diskurser i globaliseringsdebatten bland föresprĂ„kare och kritiker, de anvĂ€nder olika begrepp kring fenomenet.
