The aim of this study is to examine marriage as something both desirable and normal in three popular novels from the 1860s about marriage: Rosa Carlén?s Agnes Tell: en äktenskapshistoria (1860), Marie Sophie Schwartz?s Alma eller De moderna äktenskapen (1860) and Sara Pfeiffer?s Aurora Trampe (1867). Using a theoretical perspective from Michel Foucault and Judith Butler, I have analysed the novels as being producers of, and resistance against, norms.The good marriage is partly depicted as a utopian vision in the novels, which therefore functions as fantasies for the readers. But it is also depicted as a realistic possibility. Though difficult to achieve, the main characters reach the goal through individual improvement towards correct behaviour.The question for the main characters is not whether they are going to marry or not, but how to make their marriages good ones.

Detta är ett arbete vilket syftar till att förstå hur ofrivillig barnlöshet kan betraktas som en sjukdom. Frågeställningen lyder således: ?Hur produceras förståelsen av ofrivillig barnlöshet som sjukdom i mitt material?? De teoretiska verktyg som används i denna analys hämtas från Michel Foucault, Sarah Franklin, Faye D. Ginsburg och Rayna Rapp, Susanne Lundin samt Nikolas Rose. Dessa verktyg visar på hur ofrivilligt barnlösa definieras som en grupp, hur den medicinska teknologin och den kliniska blicken samt dagens biopolitik formar vår förståelse av den mänskliga reproduktionen.

The following study is a discourse analysis of the concept of critical thinking within pre-school teacher education. It considers the following questions: how does the concept of critical thinking appear in policy documents, central to the pre-school teacher education, and which possible conceptions of critical thinking are conveyed by students and teachers active within the education. Additionally, the study seeks to discuss, as well as suggest a possible relation, between the findings of those two questions. In reviewing the material (consisting of five semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, and of a selection of policy documents central to the education), I argue the existence of a sort of project within the education, which presents critical thinking as a higher value. At the same time, I argue that the concept is not defined or concretized. This project, however, as I suggest while drawing upon Foucault?s ideas of discourse and government, involves a rather high degree of control.

Violence against teachers in Swedish schools, according to recent reports has increased and there have been many studies to investigate the situation for teachers. The surveys show that teachers are especially vulnerable to students. This study aims to examine the relationship between a number of teachers and their students to study the power relations that exist in the classroom. This is to see what violence is an expression of and also how violence is perceived by the teachers. The issues that are central in this study are:What is the importance of dialogue in the relationship between these teachers and their students?Is there power relations between teachers and their students?What is the violence against teachers and expression of?Is there any connection between dialogue, power relations and violence?The theories of the materials in this study was analyzed using power relations theories of the historian of ideas Michel Foucault and Philosophy Doctor Anders Persson, who to some extent has his theoretical basis in Foucault?s power relations.

In the 1920s the law against vagrancy had been unaltered since it?s introduction in 1885. During that period, Sweden had undergone great social and political transformation in the wake of industrialisation, urbanisation and democratisation. The political landscape had changed and the social sciences were organising knowledge in new ways. The public opinion realised the need for a review of the vagrant law that better corresponded to the modern times.

The aim of this essay is to analyze the discursive production of Food, within the Slow food movement, by its members. Through a discourse analysis inspired, theoretically and methodically, by Michel Foucault, this essay examines how the idea of food ? that is ?what should be eaten? ? in opposite to what can be eaten, is constructed within by Slow Food members in the Gothenburg area. The essay analysis how Slow Food?s food discourse is structured and what results this formation has on food within this discourse.

The aim of this study has been to examine six books about Oscar Wilde?s homosexuality during the years 1906 ? 2003. I have been analyzing their descriptions about his sexual orientation and compared them to each other to see the changes through time. In order to see some clear changes the main focus was to choose time differences between the books. It was clear that the earlier writers had negative opinions and thoughts about his sexual deviation the way they described it.

This essay is about security and safety in the city. More precisely it is concerned about the role of the institutions that aims to raise the perceived security and safety and their understanding of these concepts. I study two of the municipality's project in this field in the city of Malmö. Documents concerning these projects are analysed with a discourse analysis inspired by Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau as well as Michel Foucault. The two projects consist of one discourse each; the surveillance discourse and the discourse about meetings.

This essay consists of a heuristic analysis of referents in the Swedish educational act, leaning on the methodological guidelines of discourse analysis. The overall aim of the essay has been to analyse in what way language in the educational act works as guidelines and law in relation to teachers? work. To correspond to this aim an openly structured questionnaire has been used, providing an empirical view of how teachers understand certain words, or referents, in the educational act. This empirical data has then been shaped to a spectrum view of the definitions of the referents showing a number of deductable facts, including the significance of the apparent use of institutional and professional language, which then have been viewed from two theoretical perspectives.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka prästens makt i församlingen under 1800-talet i Sverige utifrån Foucaults disciplinteori. Uppsatsen skall svara på hur prästens makt över församlingen gav dem möjlighet att utöva disciplin och hur de kunde disciplinera församlingsmedlemmarna. Som teoretisk utgångspunkt används Foucault tankar med hierarkisk övervakning, normaliserande sanktionens metoder (straff) och examen. Materialet är hämtat från tidigare studier om prästens liv, församlingsmedlemmarnas plikter och husförhör. This work deals with the introductory course for immigrants (Introduktionskurs för invandrare ? IVIK) in the Swedish municipalities. I have studied how the participants in this education are brought into a Swedish understanding of religion, both in the formal SO (social studies) and when it comes to informal transferring of values.I have interviewed teachers and school leaders, interviews which I have then analysed.To understand the educational environment, I have used Antonio Gramsci´s theory of hegemony, as I perceive it, as well as Michel Foucault´s ideas of power and knowledge.I have found that fostering into a ?Swedish? view on religion appears in the education, implicitly as well as explicitly, though the informants tend to have an ambivalent opinion as to how this should be carried out, and to which extent..

Den här uppsatsen analyserar svensk storstadspress representationer av alkoholforskning. I synnerhet finns ett intresse för att analysera hur dessa representationer konstruerar alkoholkonsumtion, framförallt alkoholberoende, som en sjukdom. Här använder vi oss om de teorier om medikalisering som Peter Conrad och andra utvecklat med inspiration från framförallt Michel Foucault. Med hjälp av de diskursanalytiska verktyg som utvecklats av bland andra Norman Fairclough, Vivien Burr och Roger Fowler sluter vi oss till att det språk som tidningarna använder när alkoholforskning diskuteras reproducerar en bild av alkoholberoende som maktlösa och anonyma, och förstärker och döljer maktskillnader mellan forskare och beroende..

Det undersöks ochanalyseras i minst tre läroböcker som används i grundskolan i Sverige. Kursplanengällande religionskunskap i grundskolan ska studeras och den ska jämföras medböckernas innehåll.Genussystemet av Yvonne Hirdman och diskursanalys av Göran Bergström, KristinaBoréus och Michel Foucault står i centrum för mina teorier. Hirdman analyserarmaktprocesser, det vill säga dikotomi där det manliga inte blandas med det kvinnliga ochhierarkin som visar vad normen är. Bergström och Boréus säger att det finns ettregelsystem som visar människor vilket sätt de ska prata och agera på.
