Konflikterna i södra Afrika under 1900-talets andra hÀlft Àr nÄgot som idag Àr frÀmmande för mÄnga och som direkt för tankarna till apartheid regimen. HÄrt pressat av omvÀrlden pÄ grund av deras raspolitik kÀmpade Sydafrika i mÄnga Är en oftast anonym konflikt mot kommunistiska styrkor som hade stöd frÄn Kuba och Sovjetunionen.Under vissa perioder, speciellt mot krigsslutet, eskalerades stridigheterna och stora konventionella operationer bedrevs lÄngt in i Angola för att hindra framfarten av fientliga styrkor.  Sydafrikas anvÀndandet av stridsflyg kopplas i denna studie till John A. Warden III:s teorier om hur luftmakt bör anvÀndas.Warden Àr mest kÀnd frÄn perspektivet att hans teorier var grundlÀggande i planerandet av Gulfkriget i Irak och andra amerikanska luftoffensiver under 1990- och 2000-talet. I detta arbete undersöks i hur stor utstrÀckning det Àr möjligt att finna spÄr av Wardens luftmakts-teorier i Sydafrikas grÀnskrig.Resultatet av studien visar, genom en analys, hur enskilda hÀndelser och operationer korrelerar med utvalda begrepp ur Wardens teorier. DÀremot finns det inga indikationer som pekar pÄ att det större strategiska perspektivet överensstÀmmer med Wardens större konceptuella idéer..

The present essay concerns Walter BenjaminÂŽs engagement with the concept of critique in four of his early writings from 1916-1928. It revolves around three main themes, or objects of interest: the critique of language [Sprache], the critique of the work [das Werk] and the critique of history [Geschichte]. The main objective of this study is to show how we can understand Benjamin?s conception of critique and how he develops it in regard to language, the work and history. The essay argues that this is a vital part to understand his philosophy in general as well as his later philosophy of history in particular.

Ideologiskiftet har skapat utrymme för vÀrderingar och gamla minnen som varit undertryckta under sjuttio Är av kommunism. Samtidigt pÄminner de nya utrikespolitiska förhÄllanden som uppstÄtt i Asien till följd av Sovjetunionens sönderfall om territoriella hot som funnits tidigare i historien. UtifrÄn ett globalt perspektiv försöker jag i uppsatsen analysera orsakerna till förÀndringen av mongolernas nationella identitet sedan 1990 liksom dess olika yttringar. Jag betonar att statens historiske grundare, Djingis khan, buddismen som finkulturens kÀlla och den klassiska skriften, mongol bichig, som tidigare avfÀrdades pÄ basis av den kommunistiska ideologin, utgör grundstenar i den nya, omtolkade nationella identiteten.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 the satellite states of the former Communist bloc immediately departed on a journey towards democracy and market capitalism. Among the many tasks of the newly elected governments, one was to transform the paternalist Communist welfare state into a social system that would decrease the oversized role of the state, at the same time as protecting the citizens from the hardships ensued from the transition.I have studied the evolution of new welfare systems in the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, three countries generally agreed as the most similar and most successfull transition countries of the Eastern bloc. GĂžsta Esping-Andersen's prominent typology of welfare regimes, consisting of the liberal, corporatist and social democratic regime-types, has constituted the theoretical basis of the analysis. Simultaneously, applying new cases to the typology implies an element of theory testing.The study shows that 40 years of Communism and partial isolation from the West has not prevented these three countries from developing welfare states fully compatible with those of Western Europe and the Anglo-Saxon nations and that all three of them in fact fall within the scope of the corporatist regime-type..

Under det kalla kriget hÄrdbevakades sammanslutningar pÄ den yttersta vÀnsterkanten av de svenska sÀkerhetstjÀnsterna genom kontroversiella metoder sÄsom telefonavlyssning, buggning och skuggning. Vidare Äsiktsregistrerades personer som visade sig ha samröre med dessa organisationer. Denna registrering syftade till att sÀkra det rÄdande statsskickets framtida existens. Enligt etablerad demokratiteori innehar alla individer en okrÀnkbar rÀtt till liv, frihet och egendom. Den liberala staten syftar bland annat till att sÀkerstÀlla att dessa friheter inte utsÀtts för krÀnkningar.

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the conceptualisation of the social relations of class and gender within the Social Democratic Women?s Association during the period 1972 ? 1993, on the basis of their programmes for action. The analysis of the concepts is based on an ideology critical study focusing on the manifest ideology.The study is based upon the theoretical concepts of class and gender,  The class analysis is based upon the broadened concepts of class by Erik Olin Wright and Ira Katznelson. The gender analysis is mainly based upon a Marxist understanding and a critical point of view of Marxism and feminism in the context of patriarchy and capitalism.The period of the study is where the social democracy is challenged, both by radical socialism and feminist ideology and the economic crisis during the 1980?s, as well as the possible threat of an organised women?s party in Sweden.

This survey is a theoretical analysis concerning didactics of literature, in which I problematize what Martha C. Nussbaum describes as ?narrative imagination?. By using postcolonial theory, more specific: Gayatri Spivaks essay ?Can the Subaltern Speak?? and her theoretical formula ?a leap into the other?s sea?, I try to answer the following question: Can ?narrative imagination? be understood as a manifistation or concretisation of ?a leap into the other?s sea??The answer that is given concerning my general question is simply: No.

I denna uppsats studerar jag hur dagspressen formerar identitetskategorierna strejkande och strejkbrytare under en period av nio veckor, dÄ strejken vid Wahlgren & Nordqvists papperslager i Malmö utspelade sig, Är 1926. Vid nÀmnda strejk anstÀllde arbetsgivaren strejkbrytare för att försvaga fackföreningens och de strejkande arbetarnas förhandlingsposition. Detta ledde till att konflikten trappades upp och stora demonstrationer utspelade sig i Limhamn dÀr strejkbrytarna inlogerades. I dagspressen uppstod meningsstrid mellan framförallt den socialdemokratiska tidningen Arbetet och den moderata SkÄnska Aftonbladet dÀr man tog ut sina positioner för att antingen legitimera eller delegitimera strejken. I denna meningsstrid var formeringen av identitetskategorierna strejkande och strejkbrytare centrala.

Kan extrema partier med helt olika ideologier samarbeta kring politiska frÄgor? Det Àr huvudfrÄgan i denna studie som har studerat tvÄ svenska extrema partier, Nationaldemokraterna och Kommunistiska partiet (f.d. KPML). Studien grundar sig pÄ den sovjetiska dissendenten Andrej Amalriks tes att extrema partier tenderar att nÀrma sig varandra ideologiskt ju extremare de blir. Amalrik presenterar en modell dÀr han visar hur olika ideologier Àr sammanflÀtade med varandra, Amalriks ideologihjul.

I have studied the curriculum for the compulsory Swedish school, from the curriculum from year 1962 when the Swedish grundskolan became a reality, to the curriculum from year 1994, the one in practice today. My primary interest has been what the curriculum says about bringing up the Swedish youth. My theory has been the British analyst Norman Fairclough?s Critical Language Studies. His thoughts about actual discourse, type of discourse and order of discourse has led me through out this essay.

This masters thesis is a study of the ideas brought forward in the literary magazine 40-tal. The methodology involves the adaptation of a literary sociological perspective where the ideas of the young literary avantgarde in the magazine 40-tal interplays with the established philosophy of the Swedish society during the period 1944-47. The main purpose has been to examine 40-tal as a product of supreme individuality that originates a unique climate of ideas which exceeds the involved collaborators individual writings. I have thereby related my analysis to the Marxist oriented theories of Raymond Williams. This has been done in order to see how the external pressure of the social structure and the market acts together with the internal pressure of keeping up with the times and how this affects the individual authors and the process of creating.

This thesis examines the use of history, historical narratives and the relation to Venezuelan historical consciousness in Libro Rojo, a publication of The Unified Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). It consists of four parts: an introduction, a declaration of principles, statutes and finally what is called the programmatical bases (bases programaticas) of the party.A starting point for this thesis is that this is an under prioritized area of research about the Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela. It aims to show the centrality of history in these fundamental documents of the biggest left-wing party in Latin America.The thesis finds that symbolically charged historical figures ? mainly national icons of VenezuelaÂŽs struggle for national liberation - are mobilized to back up contemporary aspirations and influence public perception of what kind of future is possible and desirable. Libro Rojo structures the relationship between past, present and future in order to influence historical consciousness.It also finds that Libro Rojo constructs a vision of socialism which aims to show that the ideas and actions of VenezuelaÂŽs symbolically charged historical figures are compatible with the ideas of 19th and 20th century western Marxism.
