The SAB-system (Klassifikationssystem för svenska bibliotek) was created almost a hundred years ago and has often been viewed as insufficient among many academic libraries. KB (Kungliga Biblioteket) has therefore decided to change to DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) which means that the Swedish libraries are now facing a challenge that involves a change to a new classification system. This is a comparable situation that occured when the SAB-system was created. The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine the Swedish library sector´s approach to a new classification system, first to the SAB-system and then to DDC.

The purpose of the study is to increase understanding of why nursing students and product engineering design students are using information in such different ways despite their comparable starting point. The empirical material consists of 18 student theses and a document comprising directives for thesis writing that are analysed from three different theoretical perspectives. A citation analysis of all 18 theses is carried out.

The aim of my study is to critically analyse the Discourse behind two different integration projects in Sweden, by using post colonial theory. My hypothesis is that many projects intended for increased integration includes a view of immigrants as the ?Others? which can be seen in how one talks about integration and culture in the Discourse behind integration projects. The first of these two projects aims at increased diversity in the cultural sphere, organized on at state level. The purpose of the second project is to increase the communication and results for schools in areas with a high rate of immigrants in Malmö. In my study I make a Discourse analysis of the Discourse behind these two projects and study how they are motivated and how one conceptualise culture and integration in these documents.

The new jurisprudence concerning migration and asylum in the European Union seeks to establish a more ?fair, efficient and sustainable migration and asylum system?. To analyze the Discourses, a critical Discourse analysis is applied to the former asylum regulation, Dublin regulation III, a revised and withdrawn proposal, Dublin regulation IV, and future legislation.

This essay is a Discourse and a feminist theoretical analysis that focuses on the alternative Discourse that we consider Feminist Initiative to be constitutive of. Our theoretical stance, with base in Laclau and Mouffes Discourse theory, builds on the notion that reality is characterised by conflicts between different competing discursive formations and that the social is an endless struggle over the preferential right of interpretation of meaning. More specifically, the essay focuses on the discursive struggle over the meaning of the term politics. It is our understanding that the dominant perception of politics necessarily excludes other understandings, which can according to Eduards, be explained as a consequence of a patriarchal distribution of power that renders the subordination of certain understandings of politics accordingly. Feminist Initiative, as an alternative Discourse, can therefore be perceived as a threat to the dominating Discourse of politics, which in order to maintain its preferential right of interpretation seek to illegitimatise and depoliticise the politics that the alternative Discourse represents.

The aim of this two years master´s thesis is to examine Discourses about electronic books in relation to libraries that occur in the Swedish library journal Biblioteksbladet by using critical Discourse analysis (CDA). The thesis also aims to discuss changes in the Discourse practice, and discuss the relationship between Discourse practice and social practice in the field of library and information science (LIS). A main point of CDA is that language is a form of social practice that helps shape social reality. Furthermore the concept of ideology, as understood with-in CDA, brings understanding to the way discursive events help reproduce and transform social relations of pow-er. The text samples span from 2005 up to and including 2011 and were examined by using Norman Fairclough´s three-dimensional conception of Discourse, which allows for interpretation of text on a linguistic, discursive and social level. The result of the analysis showed that there are several different Discourses about electronic books and li-braries, none of which can be said to be particularly representative.

The society wants more people to start their own business, why? The issues of the shift from youth as social problems to youth as entrepreneurs is discussed in the thesis as well as the scope and content of this Discourse as a possible new ideal for youth in Swedish society..

Är brottsoffret ett subjekt eller ett objekt? : En diskursanalys av brottsofferbegreppet

The purpose of this essay is to define the meaning of the concept of crime victim and how the crime victim as a concept is constructed. The question is answered through an investigation of the Discourse that constructs and reproduces the crime victim. Furthermore the purpose is to open a theoretical discussion which aims to clarify whether or not the crime victim is a subject or an object through an examination of how the individual is constructed as a crime victim by the crime victim Discourse. The essay takes a theoretical point of view based on a mixture of Michel Foucault?s and Ernesto Laclau & Chantal Mouffe?s Discourse theories. The method used to organize the research ? regarding the meaning of the concept of crime victim ? is Laclau & Mouffe?s Discourse analysis which is an extension and a part of the theory mentioned above. The Discourse analysis creates a model of the crime victim Discourse which answers the question of how the concept of crime victim is constructed, and how this concept should be understood.

The aim of this study is to investigate the Discourses of widening recruitment to higher education in some political documents from the 21st century. The scientific method applied is critical Discourse analysis as developed by Norman Fairclough. This implies the analyses of the actual texts, the social practice as well as the discursive practice, i.e. the conditions under which the texts are produced, distributed and consumed. The major results include four Discourses: a post-modern Discourse, a neoliberal economic Discourse, a political Discourse of multi-culturalism and a modern Discourse with its roots in the 20th century?s discussions about social imbalance in recruitment to higher education.

"Vi har fått jorden till låns av våra barn och barnbarn" : Hur undervisas hållbar utveckling på högstadiet?

The discussion about high culture and popular culture in our society has been going on for decades. In few places is it as loud as within culture journalism and the critics? society, where the question of what is good taste and what is dumb entertainment constantly gets brought to the surface. Film is a particularly vulnerable area, since it is such a universally appealing and rather young medium. In America and England several studies have been performed of the reviewing society and reveiwers? use of high and low art-Discourse in their writing.

Lärares skrivdiskurser i teori och praktik. : En fallstudie av lärare i årskurs 6.

The purpose of this Discourse-analytical study is to investigate teachers? beliefs about writ-ing and writing instruction and how their beliefs and writing instruction can be understood in relation to the Lgr11 syllabus in Swedish. The study included five teachers who teach in grade 6 of primary school, where I applied Roz Ivani??s theories of written Discourses, based partly on interviews with teachers and classroom observations of teaching, partly on the Swedish curriculum for grades 4?6. The result shows that teachers move within creativi-ty, process, genre and social practice Discourse, while the skills of Discourse and the socio-political Discourse lack matching.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to examine and analyze what Discourses about children that can be found in three Swedish culture publications, and also to identify the different social roles that are attributed to children in these publications. The theoretical and methodological background is Discourse theory, as described by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. Additional theory used is social constructionism and Norman Fairclough?s critical Discourse theory. Three questions are asked: What Discourse/s can be found in these publications? What do these Discourses tell us about the view on children within the library domain? What social roles are attributed to the children in the texts and what consequences do these have for the power configuration between children and adults? Furthermore there is a discussion concerning what effects these Discourses might have on the direct and indirect reception of children in the library.

This master?s thesis looks at Discourses that use the pronoun ?hen?. The media debate in Sweden over this pronoun in 2012 started in connection with the publishing of a children?s picture book: Kivi och monsterhund, by Jesper Lundqvist and Bettina Jansson. The essay investigates how eight librarians, who take an interest in and work with gender issues, talk about the pronoun hen and about this picture book and other books that have characters which are not named as a sex/gender.The essay takes a discursive perspective on reality and on the construction of knowledge and carries out a Discourse analysis of the librarians? talk in the qualitative interviews that were made for this study.

The aim of this study is to discuss the diagnosis ADHD as a meaning-making Discourse that is something more than just a diagnosis with a set of symptoms. I aim to discuss that the diagnosis is productive and can be seen as a means to control and to comfort individuals. The research was based on a method consisting of an idea analysis and a Discourse analysis. I am using both a Discourse analysis and a critical ideology analysis as perspectives. These perspectives are also based on a general theory of late modernity.
