My thesis is a study of how the perception of booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters in the Swedish educational system has changed between 1932 and 2007. A discursive reading of articles in the magazine Biblioteksbladet provides the basis for my investigation. The thesis argues that an older "authoritaritan" and "traditional" Discourse has given way for a more modern, "anti-authoritaritan" and "lust"-directed Discourse. The older Discourse was designed to make sure that young people were provided with a certain well-defined quantity of "approved" literature. The new Discourse stresses the importance of fostering kids and youngsters with a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards reading in general.
Fysikdiskursen på Komvux : Betydelsen av student-lärarinteraktioner
This study draws upon the framework for analyzing the Discourse of a science classroom introduced by Mortimer and Scott (2003). It has been used for many studies before on high school youths, but never on adults. Therefore, this study focuses on the interaction between teacher and students in an adult education on high school level in physics, and how students can change the classroom Discourse. Observations took place in two different schools for adults, in four different teaching groups. The result was analyzed by pattern of interactions, communicative approach, teaching purpose, type of student questions and their effect on the classroom Discourse.
This essay attempts to examine the Discourse of the Sweden democrats in relation to thevalue system of the Swedish national school. To analyse the political texts I use Discourse analysis and especially the method and approachconducted by Judith Lee Bacchi. Bacchi focuses on the construction of a problem in variouspolitical Discourses. When performing this kind of analysis the main question is (accordingto Bacchi): ?What is the problem represented to be??I find that the Sweden democrats construct the ?migration politics? and the ?multiculturalpolitics? that is guiding the society as the cause of most problems in our society. To solvethe ?problems? they promote a nationalistic and a cultural racist Discourse especiallypinpointing the ?Muslims? as being a problem.Since the Sweden democrats are striving to implement their Discourse in the society andschool, and since their Discourse already are reproduced by solar students in the classroom,I find it important to examine the essence of their particular Discourse and contrast it withthe current value system of the Swedish schools.I don´t find the nationalistic and racist Discourse of the Sweden democrats to correspond tothe value system of the Swedish school, mainly due to their strive to create alienation, andby labeling individuals in a reductive manner, instead of using apparent differences as asource for democratic discussions in the classroom.

The questions are: How is the Discourse constructed and maintained by religion and religiosity of SFI students in an SFI context? How do SFI participants experience that their religion has affected their time at SFI?Using a case study approach, interviews were conducted with a group of SFI students. "Say yes to yes" : en diskursanalytisk studie om medborgarnas roll i EU
The starting point of this thesis is the debate surrounding the two referenda?s in France and the Netherlands in May and June 2005, regarding the proposal of a European constitution. The aim of this study is to analyse how democratic legitimacy and the role of the citizens portrays within the democratic Discourse of the European Union. The empirical material is based upon both speeches from the European Commission and news articles from the French newspaper Libération and the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Discourse analysis is used as a theoretical frame of reference combined with models of democracy.
The aim of this thesis has been to examine how the risk for the swine flu was represented in the Swedish Radio news broadcast Ekot 16.45 during different phases of the pandemic in 2009. We wanted to study how the risk was described in different Discourses and periods? Were the participants in the reporting calming or warning the listeners in relations to different aspects of the swine flu? What consequences for the community were reported in the broadcasting? To find the answers to our questions, we analysed 13 features about the swine flu broadcasted in Ekot?s main news broadcast Ekot 16.45. We used critical Discourse analysis inspired by Norman Fairclough. We identified four types of Discourses in our text, a journalistic Discourse, a medical Discourse, a nationalistic Discourse and an authority Discourse. The main Discourse was the medical one.

In 2009 transgendered persons were included in the Swedish law against discrimination. Prior to the inclusion a commission made an investigation of the necessity of such change in the law and how it could be designed. This essay focuses on the Discourses regarding gender that appear in the law and the report written by the commission. Using theories by Judith Butler and Discourse analysis inspired by Norman Fairclough it identifies two main Discourses regarding gender: a two gender Discourse and a queer Discourse. The two Discourses meet in the studied material in an antagonistic way, a conflict that is solved by separating the two and making one part of the law focus on gender and one on transgender.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine public library and information technology IT Discourses to see which relationships are established between them in four library journals. This is done in two steps, where first Discourses are defined followed by an analysis of the relationships established between the public library and IT in each Discourse. The questions from which the analysis emanates are as follows: What Discourses exist around the public library and IT in the library journals? What conceptions of the tasks of the public library are constructed in the Discourses? What conceptions of the tasks of IT are constructed in the Discourses? What conceptions of the relationships between the public library and IT are constructed in the Discourses? The theoretical and methodological starting-points are found in Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes Discourse theory. 37 articles from four library journals Biblioteksbladet, Bibliotek i Samhälle, DIK-forum and Ikoner - are analysed through a model in five phases.
Tolkningar av begreppet "tillgänglighet" på Värmlandsarkiv
This survey examines how a regional archive, Värmland Archives, interprets and works from the departure point of national cultural accessibility goal ?Everyone should have the opportunity to participate in cultural life?. And it is also a comporative study of Discourse regarding accessibility between Värmland Archives and some other actors in the archival cultural system. Critical Discourse analysis, according to Norman Fairclough, is used as a theory method. A Discourse analysis is made on empirical data based on document study and qualitative research interviews. My conclusion is that if the term Accessibility is seen as a focal point the accessibility Discourse in the documents of Värmland Archives and of the other actors studied can not be clearly discerned. Värmland Archives´s interpretation of terms regarding accessibility analyzed in the survey, varies among the staff regarding how the archives and its services should be accessible, and what accessibility means in the context of the archives.

Familjediskursen : 1998-2008
Purpose/Aim: The purpose of this essay is to see how the media, through the newspaper, "Vi föräldrar?, produces family and parental roles, and to investigate how the image changed over time.Material/Method: The material consists of a number of selected texts from the years 1968, 1988 and 2008. The method used is a Discourse analysis based on the three level model by Norman Fairclough. The three levels are the text, the Discourse practise and the sociocultural practise. In this study two of the levels, text and sociocultural practise, are used in analysing the texts.Main results: Family and parenting in the texts from 1968 can be linked to the structural functionalist theory in which the core family is central and women and men are assigned to specific roles.
The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine the profession of librarianship by studying tasks in Swedish public libraries. The method is a textual analysis of articles inspired by the critical Discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough. The theory applied consists of the profession theory of Andrew Abbott and the gender theory of Yvonne Hirdman. The questions raised are: how do librarians speak about their tasks, which Discourses can be constructed and how can profession theory and gender theory explain the result.
The aim of this master thesis is to examine how leadership in public libraries is constructed discursively in the Swedish library field of today. The empirical material reviewed is job postings and articles from three library related journals. The thesis seeks to identify what different leadership Discourses can be found by looking at definitions, forms of address, present actors and themes emerging. It also aims to examine the contingent presence of late modern leadership theories in the order of Discourse. The leadership theories primarily investigated are New Public Management (NPM) and value-based leadership. The theoretical starting point of the thesis is Discourse theory, developed by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. In the analysis a model of four phases is used; in which central concepts of Discourse theory help identify the Discourses.
