The climate changes that are occuring in the world have resulted in that the EU callingfor a 20 % reduction in energy consumption to the year 2020, to reach that goal theEU want the public sector to go forth as a good example. Västfastigheter owns andmanage the hospital buildings in the Västra Götaland region. To be able to reducetheir energy usage Västfastigheter has hired several consulting firms to chart out theenergy consumption on each hospital building. The biggest energy savings potentialhave been calculated and what the cost will be to perform each action. The energyaudit have been completed and stand as the decision basis for Västfastigheter?s choiceon which action packages that should be implemented. In the report the actions addinginsulation and window relacement have been deeply studied and a compilation havebeen done where the energy savings are set against the cost for each action. Thepurpose of the report is to invesigate whether it is possible to find key data related tocosts in a study of 13 different hospital buildings from the hospitals SahlgrenskaUniversity Hospital, Östra Hospital, The Kärnhospital in Skövde and Södra ÄlvsborgsHospital. The different facade materials that have been reviewed aresandwichelements, plaster and brick. With the help of a study of literature, interviewswith technical consults, internet searches and reports has a collection of informationbeen made. The result after the compilation shows that the buildings that have plasterfacade on Södra Älvsborgs Hospital have the best potential in an energy saving andcost view when adding insulation. The brick facades at SahlgrenskaUniversityhospital that were investigated showed also on a good energy saving but toa higher cost as a new brick walls need to be constructed. The sandwichelements thatare visible at Östra hospitals buildings had the lowest energysaving due to themalready having a good thermal insulation capacity. If window replacement are donethe investigation show that Östra hospital and the Kärnhospital in Skövde, with itssandwhichelement facade, show the best energy savings to the lowest cost.
