The aim of this paper is to make an investigation of how authoritative conceptual framework about immigrants as a group is being constituted in the discourse regarding Swedish language for immigrants. I will also examine what connections there are to the overarching integration discourse. While doing this I try to establish the contrasting relationship between the ?Swedishness? and ?the Other?. My theoretical framework consists of discussions regarding groups and the relation to homogeneity or heterogeneity in various ways and how We tend to construct the discourse in relation to the Other. I have found some tensions within the discourse, which I interpret as mainly existing due to the different conceptions of homogeneity and heterogeneity that are to bee found in the material. I understand it as if the integration discourse and its mainly negative attitude towards affirmative action of immigrants has had a large impact on how the Swedish language education is being formulated, since the language discourse can be seen as part of the integration discourse.
