Jällaskolans upper secondary School is situated on a big farm just outside Uppsala. The School is focused on agriculture, forestry, gardening, animal care and science. Jällaskolans staff has whished for a school garden for educational purpose where students can practice their gardening skills and learn more about plants. But most important, a specially adapted outside environment such as a garden, would be a great advantage for the students with special needs. This garden could even be an asset for other visiting school classes in the region. This examination paper includes a plan scheme for a garden at Jällaskolan. The main purpose is to create a stimulating garden for all students, teachers and other visitors. The paper and the plan scheme are based on research and well defined theories regarding the importance of outside green environment for people. Thru literature studies and discussions with personal working with students at Jällaskolan with special needs my understanding for the subject increased. At first I made an insight inventory of the area for the planned garden to expand my knowledge of the places preconditions and its surroundings. Based on the inventory I analyzed the areas possibilities and weaknesses. For my inspiration I visited a number of places where outside green environment is designed for educational and caring purposes. Based on literature studies, discussions, inspiration from visited places, inventory and analysis I have designed a plan scheme trying to meet the needs of the targeting groups, Jällaskolans special requirements and the places preconditions. This plan scheme is adapted so that the garden would be suitable for all kinds of visitors. The garden is meant to attract and be available for people with all kinds of disabilities and special needs. The garden is intended to enhance stimulation of all senses, act habilitating and give visitors a chance to recover. In the garden there will be prepared places for education and gathering of groups.
