When communications traffic increasingly turned into data, IP telephony became a disruptive technology for the Telecommunication business. IP telephony was a hot topic when voice over IP services started to become available to consumers in the 1990s. The new technology changed the rules of the game and many new actors entered the market. The purpose of this study is to describe, study, and analyze how the business models of the Swedish Telecom sector developed in the middle of the 2000s. The study is delimited to the Swedish consumer market for telephony. The study is built mainly upon deep interviews with 24 prominent persons in the Telecom sector in 2006. To aid understanding, two Telecom companies that have been chosen to represent different kinds of actors are described and analyzed more closely.

VoIP Revolution - strategies to survive the future of telecom

This essay is a study of the market strategies and situations in the telephone business. Our problem was to examine the Telecom companies´ strategies to stay competitive and cope with the new VoIP technology. We chose to do a qualitative study and four telephone interviews were made with Swedish and Dutch companies. We investigated three different categories of companies in the market; industry leaders, cable companies and broadband companies to get a broad view of the market. The theory chapter is based on different strategies that companies have to or can apply to get ahead, stay or survive in a hypercompetition.

Batterilyft för telekom basstationer

The purpose with this thesis work was to design and build a technical aid for installingbatteries in Telecom base stations. Today that job is done manually, since there is noequipment on the market for that purpose. Installing batteries in base stations manually isa very tough job.To get ideas for possible solutions a preliminary study on existing lift aids was done. From the preliminary study the conclusion that some kind of overhead crane would besuitable for the task was drawn. After that a lift for installing batteries in base stationswas designed, built and tested. The tests show that it is possible to minimize heavy liftingwhen installing batteries in Telecom base stations, at a relatively low cost.ii.

Innovating Customer Experience -from a telecom industry perspective

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to identify and analyze innovative products and services within the Telecom industry, letting these findings constitute possible ways for CSPs to innovate the experience of their customers. Methodology: The research in this thesis was conducted from a qualitative approach and data were collected using primary- (expert interviews) and secondary sources (journals, articles, web sites etcetera). In addition, a research design entailing four sequential steps was created to stipulate and illustrate the logic underpinning the methodological process. Theoretical perspectives: The theories are divided in three groups. Background theories ? these intend to capture the problematic nature of the transforming Telecom industry, examples of such theories are; value chain theories and ecosystem theory.

End-to-End Application Billing in 3G

We have 3G on the doorstep but nothing seems to attract ordinary people to this technology. To attract the mass market the Telecom industry must show something beyond high bit rates. They must show how ordinary people can take advantage of this new technology. This is done by showing the possibilities of the new technology and by demonstrating applications that it will handle. The Telecom industry must convince the Telecom operators to invest in this technology and the only thing that matters to them is how much revenue they can make by adopting the upcoming technology.

Wireless Fidelity - A Scenario Analysis

AbstractTitle: Wireless Fidelity ? A Scenario Analysis Authors: Mellberg Ola, Technology Management, Lund UniversityMårtensson Jens, Technology Management, Lund University Tutors: Andersson Jens A, Faculty of Engineering LTHKarlberg Johan, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication ABSvensson Claes, Lund University Discussion: The most significant impacts on the Telecom industry over the past decades have been the rapid growth of the Internet and mobile telephone services. Mobile Telecom and the Internet are converging, which opens new possibilities for market actors to create business through the mobile handset. Mobile operators are aiming to expand their existing revenue model through advertising in the mobile handset and are searching to create new business models that evolve advertising sales.

Purpose: The purpose is to describe and position risk management for Telecom operators, in comparison with the risk management literature, with regards to structure, processes, learning process, visions and benefits. In addition, our aim is to link risk management perspectives with the different strategies for knowledge management.

Managing Positions in a Dynamic Environment - New Technology Impact on Tactel and the Telecom Industry

The Telecom industry is facing a paradigm shift, where the industry is converging with Internet technologies and the market is becoming more sophisticated. This results in more demanding customers, and the need for offering more content and services with a focus on usability for the end-users. The operators are starting to loose both their strong position and revenue in the Telecom industry, due to new technology and the fact that other actors are starting to enter the market, offering new content and services. In the end, the operators have two choices, to become bit-pipe providers, and only focusing on network management, or keeping the control over their networks. The latter would mean that they block other actors who are taking parts of their revenue, e.g.
