Måste det vara så grönt? Ett visuellt Förpackningskoncept för ett ekologiskt livsmedelsmärke

»Does it have to be so green?« is a visual communication project focused on Packaging design. I attempted to challenge the clichés of graphic design for organic products and designed a Packaging concept for a fictional food brand. The project had a special objec¬tive which was to explore ways to use the package as carrier for in¬formation about the enviromental impact of the Packaging itself. The process included research about Packaging design and its ef¬fect on the consumer, an investigation of the Swedish market for organic foods, creating and defining a brand, and designing a cohe¬rent Packaging concept for a product line which communicates the brand?s values and appeals to the intended target group. The project resulted in prototypes for a muesli package, tea car¬ton and honey jar, as well as a manual that explains the application of the graphic program..

The purpose of this study was to examine how local producers in the food and confectionery segment in Västernorrland, Sweden, working to communicate that the product is locally produced through its Packaging design. We have chosen to look at how they work with the right Packaging design because it is such an important part of the product marketing. A further aim was to examine how consumers perceive the Packaging design of the locally produced products and how they consider that the Packaging design communicates the product as locally produced. We have also analyzed the graphical elements contained in the locally produced product Packaging through a semiotic analysis. The theoretical framework is based on theories in brand communication and Visual Communication, specializing in Packaging design?s visual elements. The method used in this study is a qualitative method.

Companies become more and more aware of the added values of the Packaging. A well chosen and developed Packaging can reduce the costs for the companies through reduced costs for transports, reduced quantity of waste and discards and increased goodwill for example. The companies? costs for salaries can also be reduced due to the increased Packaging handling efficiency and the reduced costs for sick leave, reduced work capacity and rehabilitation etc. that can arise when handling poorly developed products and Packaging.

The use of silicon carbide (SiC) as a base material in power electronics has manyadvantages, including high breakdown voltage and excellent temperature endurance. However, the Packaging of such electronics presents major challenges and there is aneed for Packaging that can operate in higher temperature. The purpose of this thesishas been to develop a test method and verify the functionality of SiC powertransistors prototypes with a new Packaging technique developed by Swerea IVF AB.It includes setting up an electrical test-bed for power and high temperature cyclingand analysis of the results. Even though test confirmed functionality after thePackaging process, (at room temperature) the performance seemed to have been reduced. This could be a result of the measurement setup and the Packaging process. In higher temperature the transistors failed to operate longer than a couple ofminutes which showed the weaknesses in the design and the challenges with this typeof Packaging..

As a company it is required to work with strategies to minimize costs such as Packaging and logistic costs. The increased market of industrial produced wooden buildings results that the time and the cost which the Packaging of prefabricated building elements consume, is experienced to be in greater need of development than before and demands a better solution. The aim with this dissertation was to discover how the development of the handling of the Packaging can improve the Packaging process. The goal was to present improvement proposals for a simplified and thereby a more efficient production in time and cost perspective. The Packaging process which includes Packaging, handling, storage and transport were studied. Interviews were made with participants from the market for manufacturers of wooden houses and a case study was made at the company A-hus.

This thesis balances the Packaging complexity, with platform theory as a foundation. Twelve platforms were developed at Carlsberg, containing 21 bottles, and the calculated savings potential for applying these are EUR 28,9 million..
