The aim of this study is to investigate variations of conceptions among prison librarians, concerning mediation of information from an ethical perspective. We have performed interviews with nine librarians and used the phenomenographic approach when analyzing the material. Sixteen categories of conceptions were found, distributed on four aspects of the phenomenon, the act of mediating information to inmates. The results show a variety of conceptions among the librarians. The four aspects cover conceptions about the inmates as users of the library services in prisons, conceptions about the information need of the inmates, conceptions concerning policies, guidelines and laws and conceptions about information access in the prisons.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how city librariesmaintain the intellectual freedom in their Internet service. Thediscussion about Internet filters has been quiet in Sweden forseveral years, so I wanted to see if there had been an increased useof filters. I also wanted to see if the city libraries regulated theInternet service in another way. I sent a survey to 100 libraries andgot answer from 83. To explain what intellectual freedom is, I usedStuart Hamilton?s theory about intellectual freedom in the librarycontext.

Uppsatsen huvudsakliga syfte har varit att undersöka hur lagstiftningen är rustad för den tekniska utvecklingen. Arbetet har visat på samspelet mellan grundlag och allmän lag som reglerar Internet som kommunikationsform och skyddet för de yttranden som framförs där. Fokusen i arbetet har legat på hur IT-brottslighet förebyggs och motverkas. Sedvanlig juridisk metod, med studier av lag, doktrin, praxis och förarbeten har använts. Arbetet fick även i viss mån ett EU- perspektiv då EU-rättslig reglering med fokus på informationsteknologin och IT-brott har implementerats i Sverige.

This master?s thesis is about freedom of information ideas in the European Union data retention directive, 2006/24/EC. The directive means that data about electronic communications services will be retentioned. The aim of the thesis is to examine what ideas related to freedom of information that appear in the directive and how these ideas belong to the ideology of freedom of information that is common within the library community and to the juridical restrictions. In the light of surveillance tendencies that have occurred over the last years, the most well-known is probably the USA Patriot Act, it is interesting to study how freedom of information ideas appears when surveillance is legislated.

The Swedish institute of racial biology was the first of its kind in the world. The purpose of their activity was to gather information about the different kind of racial characters of the Swedish population. They did this by traveling around the country gathering pictures and statistic information. In 1958 it was decided that the institute was going to get integrated with the University of Uppsala and change its research focus to a more medical genetic. Most of the research material also got integrated into the university?s library.The purpose of this paper is to find out how the institutes collection has been handled through the ages and if there have been any controversy or debate about it.

The focus of this master thesis is the library politics of the French Right wing party the National Front and the debate that followed the application of this politics. This qualitative study is divided into two parts where the critics to this politics represents one side and the adherents the other. The critics are composed by representatives from the French, Swedish and ? to some extent ? international library sector, while the adherent side is made up of politicians from the National Front and their adherents. The empiric material mostly consists of articles published in library, Right wing and daily press.

In the years 1996-2001 the European Union`s copyright-directive was drawn up. This directive led to much lobbying activities from both copyright holders and library organisations like EBLIDA and IFLA. The Internet and filesharing networks like Napster had led to strong reactions among some copyright holders. Internet gave people an easy opportunity of accessing copyright protected material. Some researchers of copyright have written books where they state that the copyright holders utilize authors fear of illegal copying to strengthen the copyright laws, and by that benefit economical.

The potential of information technology as a means to invigorate democratic practise is constantly under discussion. Regardless of the differing opinions as to the most suitable way to utilise IT, there are certain democratic core values that have to be considered. One of these is freedom of information, defined by us as the right of every citizen to seek, obtain and express information. The aim of this study is to explore whether the use of IT as a means to enhance democracy can strengthen the citizens right to freedom of information. As an instrument for analysis we use an article by Jan van Dijk, professor of communication science.

I denna studie undersöks svensk storstadspress representation av fenomenen fildelning och upphovsrätt. Fenomenen är en del av en pågående debatt kring Internets utveckling och reglering, inte sällan ingår begreppen då man talar om integritet och Informationsfrihet. Politiska beslut tas som har juridiska påföljder, dessa påverkar människors vardag.Syftet med denna studie är att se hur diskurser, sätt att tala om, förstå och konstituera fenomen, ser ut och formar representationen av fenomenen i pressen. Press och media har stora maktpositioner i samhället, som granskare av makten och som frambringare av information till allmänheten. Utifrån objektivitets- och neutralitetsideal arbetar journalister med dagliga arbetsrutiner.

Efter kärnkraftsproblematiken i Japan 2011 blossade debatten om den svenska kärnkraften upp i media och andra politiska forum. Den svenska kärnkraftsdebatten som innan händelserna i Japan varit relativt stillsam under flera år fick i och med katastrofen åter luft under vingarna. När en plötslig yttre omständighet påverkar den inhemska politiska debatten på det sättet spelar media och journalistiken en stor roll. Är journalistikens uppenbara maktställning begränsad av några demokratiska skyldigheter? Vilka konkreta krav går att ställa på en journalistik som verkar inom ramarna för demokratin?Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka vilka krav som går att ställas på journalistiken i en demokrati.

I detta projekt presenteras förbättringsförslag för Carlsbergs pallhantering. Carlsberg har sedan en tid tillbaka haft problem med sin pallhantering. Ca 40 000 pallar som skickas ut returneras aldrig från kund. Detta leder till förluster för företaget då företaget tvingas köpa nya pallar då brist uppstår. Ett annat problem är att det ej finns något tillförlitligt system för att se hur många pallar som egentligen existerar inom företaget eller vilken typ av pallar det är. Uppgiften är att identifiera de största problemområdena och komma med förslag på åtgärder för dessa. Under projektarbetets gång har det framkommit att rutiner för pallhantering finns på de flesta anläggningar men att många av rutinerna ej efterföljs.

Examensarbetet är en fallstudie med förslag till förändringar åt uppdragsgivaren som ägnar sig åt tredjepartslogistik. Uppdragsgivaren är Kriminalvårdsanstalten Smälteryd i Sätila som ligger i Marks kommun. Anstalten utför logistiska aktiviteter mellan Monzon AB och dess kunder. Monzon AB är i sin tur ett företag som säljer - och till viss del hyr ut - byggnadsställningar, väderskydd och säkerhetsprodukter till företag runt om i Europa. I dagsläget finns ett antal logistiska problem på Smälterydsanstalten vilka i detta arbete identifieras och analyseras.
