Detta arbete utgår ifrån en enighet i forskningen om att mätningar av ljud inte är tillräckligt för att bestämma ljudlandskapets kvalitet. Enligt EU direktivet 2002/49/EG som senare skrivits in i miljöbalken, ska varje kommun eller tätort med mer än 100 000 invånare framställa bullerkartor som i sin tur ska användas som underlag i ett åtgärdsprogram. Direktivets syfte är att informera politiker, medborgare och planerare i buller frågan i den givna tätorten. Forskning tyder dock på att allmänheten och icke specialister har svårt att tyda bullerkartorna och att gemene man inte har någon referens till de mätnivåer som presenteras. I arbetet presenteras en översikt av teorier och begrepp som behandlar ämnet ljudlandskap (soundscape) och koncept och metoder som tillhör detta begrepp.

In this work a new design for S:t Erik?s square in Uppsala is being proposed. The square is situated in the middle of the city, surrounded by historical buildings. Today the square is a parking lot. The aim of the design proposal is to promote life and activity of pedestrians and cyclists.

ICT and digital artifacts is an important resource in the society, especially in schools. That is why we have chosen to study if and how teachers uses ICT and other digital technology in their education in the history subject. We think that both subjects are important because history is a subject that has to do with the past, the present and the future.We made qualitative interviews with seven teachers from three different schools. We have analyzed if the teachers sees ICT as a burden or a resource in their education and also in which extend they have digital literacy. We have chosen to discuss different authors view on ICT in the education and digital literacy.

In the summer of 2009 the High Line opened in New York, a park built on an out-of use elevated rail viaduct. The park meanders its way through the buildings and allows the visitor to see the city from a totally different perspecive than we are used to.I have made a Design proposal in Eriksdalslunden, Stockholm, with inspiration from the High Line. The proposal is based on design ideas of a park I logically call the Low Line, as the place isn't elevated as in New York, but lowered. The two places have some similarities, mainly the strong urban identity and the tracks crossing both areas. They also have very obvious differences, above all the fact that Eriksdalslunden is situated in a swale and is defined in a third dimension by the high bridges that crosses the area.The High Line is designed by James Corner Field Operations, and they have been working using their motto 'Keep it Simple, Keep it Wild, Keep it Quiet and Keep it Slow' during the whole process, words that normally aren't associated to Manhattan.

This essay is about use, misuse and non-use of history in politics. To recognize genocide is a use of history that has been established in politics, but also sparked debate. The position of non-use of history in international policy towards Turkey's denial policy has increasingly been replaced by recognition of genocide as a matter of making up with the story, moral consider, and where fundamental issues of culture, identity, history and morality has become guiding element in the discourse behind European expansion and integration policies. A breakthrough for this change is due to the Cold War's end; since the 1980s it has become possible to realize the humanitarianism which has its roots in the Enlightenment humanism underlying the United Nations, and later the EU conventions on human rights and genocide conventions. A genocide concept has become an important discourse in world politics that puts moral pressure on states to act.

This paper researches how the palimpsest concept is used in relation to landscape, and how it can function as a tool within landscape architecture. Palimpsest originally refers to old parchment handwritings, where new text has been applied on top of effaced, but still discernable, earlier writing. Superimposition of information is the core of the palimpsest concept, used within a range of scientific as well as cultural fields. The purpose of this paper is to find how a landscape palimpsest can be distinguished among the many different layers of landscape, such as historical or cultural, and to examine the potential use of the concept in theory and practice of the landscape architecture field. The study is conducted as a literature survey, examining the use of the palimpsest concept within academic works related to landscape.

Det här är en uppsats omfattande 15 högskolepoäng i ämnet fysisk planering. Uppsatsens titel är ?mellankommunal översiktlig planering ? möjligheter och begränsningar? och undersöker vad begreppet innebär, både i lagens mening och i praktiken, vilka frågor som kommunerna är beredda att samplanera om och hur de gått eller tänker gå tillväga. För att konkretisera frågeställningen har tre stycken fall med olika karaktär valts. Den slutliga frågeställningen handlar om vilka likheter och skillnader som finns i dessa valda fall. Metoden för uppsatsen har till största delen utgjorts av studier av kommunala dokument; översiktsplaner, samrådshandlingar, dokumentationer etc.

Trots den centrala lokaliseringen och det vackra läget vid vattnet upplevs Tullhamnen som en av Kalmar centrums baksidor. Tullhamnen kännetecknas idag av stora asfaltytor som upplåts för bilparkering och trafikstråk. All vattenkontakt i området avsätts idag för bilens ändamål - för parkering och vägar. Uppsatsen undersöker hur Tullhamnens möjligheter kan tas tillvara och utvecklas utifrån sina planeringsförutsättningar. Arbetet kretsar kring tre identitetsbärande grundförutsättningar; * Den centrumnära lokaliseringen. * Den närvarande kulturhistorien genom riksintresset för kulturmiljö som omfattar hela centrala Kalmar.

En tät och funktionsblandad stad med ett rikt folkliv ses många gånger som dagens stadsbyggnads-ideal. Genom förtätning kan stadens kollektiva lösningar utnyttjas effektivare men samtidigt så belastas de mer. En av dessa kollektiva resurser är det offentliga grönområdet och grönskan är viktig för människan och staden. Denna uppsats behandlar konflikten som uppstår när staden blir tätare och grönområdet riskerar att påverkas av den växande staden. Studiens resultat består av två delar.

The present essay concerns Walter Benjamin?s thought regarding history and temporality as he articulated it in his last work that was only published posthumously: ?U?ber den Begriff der Geschichte?. The purpose is to analyze Benjamin?s construction of historical materialism and to suggest a reading of it as directed towards an opening of history. For Walter Benjamin, every moment presents itself as a possibility of radical otherness: a possibility for things to be different.

This essay is a case study based on two sources of empirical data, qualitative interviews and responses from a questionnaire, which examines upper secondary school students? attitudes to history teaching in a museum context. The students? answers are further analyzed in relation to the concept of historical consciousness. Thus, history teaching in the museum, from a student perspective, and the students? capacity of expressing a historical consciousness in their answers, constitute the core of this essay.

Förslaget syftar till att utveckla och förbättra området omkring Bergåsa centrum, ett lokalt stadsdelscentrum i Karlskrona, samt parkområdet Monsunen . Detta ligger i linje med de intentioner som kommunen redovisar i sin översiktsplan (2002) där man redovisar avsikter att rusta upp lokala centrumområden i kommunen. Bergåsa centrums funktion som lokalt stadsdelscentrum ska stärkas och göras mer tydlig, parken skall förnyas i syfte att förbättra dess funktion och användning. Förslaget avser samtidigt att hitta en bättre lösning för trafiksituationen i området vilket omfattar korsningen Sunnavägen/ Valhallavägen, järnvägsövergången samt trafikmiljön i övrigt. Tillsammans ska dessa åtgärder ge Bergåsa centrum en viktigare roll som stadsdelscentrum med större attraktivitet och med förbättrade kvalitéer i många avseenden.

Road design with focus to safety has been extensively developed in last decades in Nordic and some other EU countries with the main aim to achieve a decrease in a number of accidents and fatalities on the roads. These countries gained many valuable experiences, but they had to sacrifice great effort, expenses, and time to reach the present art-of-state. The purpose of the Master?s Thesis is to review some design approaches with focus to safety and discuss the general way that they may be applied. The Master?s Thesis studies safety in three levels: (i) general - design standards, national safety policies and road hierarchy; (ii) local authority and road administrator; and (iii) three specific safety countermeasures - junctions, pedestrian crossings and traffic calming.

Faktorer och kriterier som har betydelse i den reella miljön, men som även är möjliga att läsa i planförslag är fokus för detta examensarbete som syftar till att undersöka huruvida gångmiljön kan kvalitetssäkras i planförslag genom analys av kriterier. Detta görs genom litteraturstudie av forskning, vägledande dokument och utvärderingsmetoder för befintliga miljöer, med innehållsanalys som metod. Vilket därefter analyseras för att prövas på den fallstudie som görs på en stadsdel i Karlskrona. Undersökningen visar att hantering av faktorer och kriterier varierar stort i forskning men även i vägledning för planering samt att analys av kriterier i planförslag kan vara problematiskt. Uppsatsen påvisar att kvalitetssäkring av planförslag har en rad fördelar i den fysiska planeringen.

My goal with this thesis was to investigate how educational material in the subjects of history, geography and social studies relate to the fact that Sweden has a history marked by prejudice and racism.I have chosen to focus on four areas in the Swedish history that I think deserves some special attention, these four areas have been: the Swedish slave trade on the island of Saint Barthelemy in the eighteenth century, Swedish eugenics and oppression of the Sami people, forced sterilization services during the twentieth century and Sweden's aid and concessions to Nazi Germany during World War II. With these areas in focus I?ve studied three textbooks in the courses Geography A, Civics A and History A to se how they deal with prejudice and racism in the Swedish history.The result I have come to is that none of the books addresses all four of the areas I?ve focused on. Even if the books are taken as a whole the image that they convey is not adequate. In the event that the four areas that I?ve focused on been mentioned the information have been scant and rarely, if ever, has Sweden been paired with phenomenons like racism, slavery, colonialism, eugenics, forced sterilization, etc.
