Uppsala stad, intill stadens gågata och kantad av Fyrisån ligger Gamla torget. Det är en plats som har utgjort en nyckelpunkt under mina år i Uppsala. Jag ville ändra användningen av ett torg som många passerar men få stannar och använder. Torget har stora kvaliteter i form av utsikt, närhet till vatten samt placering i staden. För mig personligen har jag har länge tänkt på att Gamla torget har större potential än vad torgytan idag används för.

Studien syftar undersöka vad individer, från län där statistik visar färre som väljer studier på högre nivå än övriga län, anser vara meningsfullt för deras val att studera läkare vid Uppsala Universitet samt eventuella gemensamma nämnare. Kvalitativa intervjuer har genomförts med nio läkarstudenter vid Uppsala Universitet. Detta har analyserats med Pierre Bourdieus teori och begrepp. Fenomenologi och hermeneutik har använts för att förstå det meningsfulla för respondenterna. Motivation, engagemang och uppmuntran från omgivningen har varit viktigt för att respondenterna studerar till läkare.

Denna uppsats har studerat sex gymnasieskolor i Uppsalas hemsidor med syfte attundersöka och jämföra gymnasieskolors strategier i konkurrensen om elever i Uppsalagenom att analysera relationen mellan deras marknadsföring via hemsidor och deraspositioner i elevrekryteringens sociala struktur som tidigare studier visat på. Denteoretiska utgångspunkten utgår från utbildningssociologen Bourdieus begreppsarsenaldär begreppet strategi har varit det mest centrala begreppet. Studien har studerathemsidorna genom en kritisk diskursanalys och gymnasieskolorna har både varit friskoloroch kommunala skolor. Skolorna valdes genom Emil Bertilssons (2014) sociala kartaöver elevrekryteringen i Uppsala. Skolorna studerades utifrån hur de beskrev sinutbildning, lärare, elever, tidigare elever, samarbetas aktörer, geografiska läget,användandet av medium och slogan.

This survey is a text analysis of 4 teaching books during a ten years period in Social studies from a multicultural and intercultural perspective. Taking as a starting point that society and the school in today?s Sweden are multicultural and in need of more intercultural teaching I explore teaching books in social science to se how they relate to Sweden as a multicultural society and their way of relating to intercultural teachings and compare them. The questions asked are: How do the different books describe the multicultural society in Sweden? What kind of intercultural tools are found in the books? And are there any similarities or differences among these books? The theories used as a starting point are reformulated by the author after theories of Von Wright and Lahdenperä to fit in to the context of a text analysis of teaching books and the method used is a content analysis with its purpose of describing how the books are constructed.

The result is aimed to give a deeper picture of how gender is represented in media.Material/Method: The method used in this thesis is discourse analysis, applied on twenty articles which contained personal interviews with women and men who have or have had breast or prostate cancer. Ten of the articles contain interviews with women and ten interviews with men. The articles were selected from criteria based on where and when they were published. They were picked from the two largest papers in Sweden, Dagens Nyheter (DN) and Aftonbladet (AF), ten from each paper, of which five were interviews with women and five with men.

The present paper is part of a project carried on by the Swedish Section of the International Commission of Jurists. Sweden has ratified several major international human rights instruments. Most of the rights are covered by national law, and only in exception is there a discrepancy between national and international law. Such a discrepancy is found in the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination, in which the State parties agree on penalizing and prohibiting the founding of and participation in racist organizations. Sweden is not complying with this statute, despite the fact that the government has ratified the convention.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur olika potentiellt skadliga faktorer påverkar nyetablerade stadsträd. För att göra detta utvecklas en metod för inventering av träd och ståndort, som sedan appliceras på ett urval på 94 stadsträd fördelade på 11 anläggningar i Uppsala och Stockholm. Faktorerna som framkom som resultatet av studien jämförs med skadliga och gynnsamma faktorer enligt uppgifter från trädexperter och litteratur. Uppsatsen inleds med en beskrivning av stadsträds situation idag och historiskt, samt nuvarande kunskapsläge. Därefter följer ett metodkapitel som beskriver metodutvecklingen. Metoden bygger på inventering och analys av ett antal punkter. Exempelvis behandlas vilken information stamomfång kan ge och hur det inventerats under rubriken Stamomfång.

Burn out is common among people who work with other people and occurs in both ecclesiastical and non ecclesiastical context. In recent years, the phenomenon has attracted increasing attention in the Church of Sweden and among persons who hold a consecration service as priests.The purpose of this essay is to study the text material from the two authors (Lennart Belfrage 2009 and Martin Petré 2013) and to analyze and describe them. Another goal is to see how the coping theory may be helpful for this group of priests to handle the situation arising in the time of burnout.I have used the qualitative research and hermeneutics method for categorize and encode the material in order to interpret and understand the underlying causes that could explain burnout among priests in the Church of SwedenPargaments (1997) coping theory has been important for analysis and explanation of burnout among a group of priests in the Church of Sweden.In the result, I have found four components that may be useful in the understanding of the cause of burnout. The division of Electricity at Uppsala University runs a project called Lysekil project, they have designed a buoy that uses the waves to create electric power from a generator attached to the bottom of the sea.Uppsala University is closely connected with the company Seabased and the university makes use of their facilities in Lysekil. When they designed the buoy issues occurred, the geometric design was flawed, brackets with a short shelf life and it is generally uneconomic.A study visit was done in Lysekil on Seabased facility. With this visit the project started, which is to improve the design of the buoy and the attachment of wires leading to the generator. In this project we have chosen to use a beam system with three beams that are attached to the buoy. Then a wire attached to a plate that sits between the beams will be leading to the generator. Two proposals for construction are created, what distinguishes them are the brackets between the beams and the buoy.From these constructions, the design that is considered most optimal for our project is chosen.All parts of the buoy have been modeled and the drawings are designed in ProEngineer software.The two constructions are compared with each other, but the whole focus is on the second and final structure. The report begins with an introduction describing Lysekil project, and a task description of our project.The project aims to produce an optimal buoy that will be easy to design, materials restrictive with good durability and an economical solution.Wave power true function has been studied, mechanical and finite element analysis of beams, buoy and plate design.This has been presented in this report, where in the various chapters can read more about the processes. The purpose of the present study was to explore if blood lactate levels are increased in bitches with pyometra, and if the lactate measurement could be used as a prognostic indicator and to determine outcome. The present study included 16 bitches with pyometra that were admitted to the University Animal Hospital, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden. For comparison, a control group consisting of 14 healthy staffowned bitches was also evaluated. In all bitches, a physical examination was performed and blood samples for analysis of haematological and biochemical parameters were obtained. In all bitches with pyometra, surgical ovariohysterectomy was performed and a uterine sample for bacteriological culture and identification was collected.

The demand for district heating is expected to decrease in the future, due to competition from heat pumps and energy efficiency measures in buildings. Development of existing district heating systems is therefore necessary for district heating companies to maintain market shares. This Master?s thesis describes and investigates the heat and electricity production and profitability of a combined Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and heat pump that is integrated with an existing district heating system. The studied district heating system is utilizing heat from waste incineration. In Sweden waste constitute 20 % of the fuel mix used in district heating systems, and this share is expected to increase in the future.

This essay takes the three models from Allison and Zelikow book Essence of decision and applies them on the Swedish defense system. After the cold war the Swedish defense system had to undergo changes to be a more modern defense and be able to defend Sweden against threats. To also be able to cooperate with other countries in peacekeeping operations the Swedish defense had to be reorganized. The solution was to change direction from a defense system that was organized for invasion to instead be a movable defense ready for any challenge in Sweden or abroad.
