The Circle is a strong form that influences the landscape. It also has symbolic value which influences our feelings and experiences. This Thesis project examines the Circles? characteristics and its significance in various connections. The goal of this Thesis is to examine what role the Circle plays in various situations and what motives there are for using it is landscape architecture. The basis for this Thesis work is a proposal which has been drawn up for development of the rural area between the villages of Hofterup and Löddeköping in the municipality of Kävlinge.

During spring 2008, the Institution for Landscape Architecture, in co-operation with Naturvårdsverket, initiated a survey in the districts of Skåne. In the survey, four out of eight park characters were examined, and it was observed that not only was it difficult interpreting these characters, but it was also presented with difficulties separating ??Lustgården?? and ??Allmänningen??. The purpose of this master thesis in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Psychology is twofold. Firstly, a theoretical framework will be constructed on the thee characters ??Allmänningen??, ??Lustgården?? and ??Centrum, festen??.

My thesis is a combination of theory and practice, where theory is meant to create a context and a background for my interpretation proposal. I wanted to ?access? the ideas that are always in the background of the reasoning which underlies both planning in a larger scale, and the design of a place. I wanted to make a ?work of ideas.? In the process of shaping the proposal, I wanted to be deleted from the site itself.

There are few legally protected gardens in Sweden, and those that are protected are mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries. All time periods have the same value and more modern gardens therefore needs to be protected. Evaluating Parks is, however, complicated since it do not exist any methods. One environment from the 1960?s that has not been protected is Televerket in Farsta, Stockholm. The facility has been classified as worthy of preservation by Stockholm City Museum and has received the Kasper Salin Prize.

Rapid urbanisation is putting strains on both the landscape and the city dwellers and the pressure on planning for sustainable and equitable cities is crucial. As many cities in Sub-Saharan Africa are expanding, city planning has trouble keeping up to meet the needs of the growing amount of urban dwellers. Many cities have also been planned with the cars in focus and the needs and comfort of the pedestrians have been overlooked. The capacity of institutions is limited due to centralized government and bureaucracy, as well as corruption. Planning is erratically implemented and it is difficult to know what will happen.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka Peterhof och Drottningholm, två formella 16-1700-talsparker, i fråga om deras karakteristiska element och strukturer/övergripande planering. Peterhof och Drottningholm valdes som undersökningsobjekt eftersom båda parkerna har en anknytning till samma tid och en gemensam historia som respektive rikes kungliga parker. Det faktum att båda var exempel på parker långt från sina ursprungliga inspirationskällor har också gjort jämförelsen intressant att genomföra. Min metod är att jämföra parkerna genom att göra litteraturstudier och att på plats undersöka karakteristiska element, strukturer och övergripande planering. En tabell görs med hjälp av Anna-Maria Blennows Europas Trädgårdar (2009) och utgör grunden för vad som undersöks i de två parkerna.

When developing advanced technology, new applications, other than those initially intended occur, spin-off. Some of Sweden?s largest companies are spin-offs from the fighter aircraft industry.

This project aims to explore fear of violence in public places. Fear of violence reminds us that there is a problem in our urban environment that leads to spatial consequences in using public space. Many groups in our society experience fear in their everyday life but this project has focus on women?s fear.

Landscape architect is a profession that withholds varying tasks inside countries and between countries. In many countries the landscape architect profession does not exist. Spain is a country where the landscape architect profession is not recognized, and the professions that work with landscape architecture are architects, engineers, biologists and agronomists. "Paisajista", in English "Landscaper," is in Spain a common name for those who design gardens and Parks. Sweden is one of the countries with most landscape architects due to its population and the profession is well established.

Ljud och trädgård är kanske inte det första par man tänker sig som gifta men de tus historia kan spåras längre tillbaka i tiden än man kan föreställa sig. När jag bestämde mig för att skriva min kandidatuppsats om akustisk trädgårdskonst trodde jag att ljudinstallationer i trädgårdar och parker var ett nytt fenomen. En helt ny värld öppnade sig framför mina ögon då jag insåg att så inte var fallet. Konstgjorda ljudkällor, såsom gyllene fåglar och vattenorglar, har kommit och gått genom tiderna medan naturliga ljud, såsom vind och fågelsång, bestått. När det kommer till vår egen tid är trädgårdsljud, även om moderna material och tankesätt används, en konstform som starkt präglas och inspireras av sin historia. ?What is happening with open public space?? and ?Why is it happening now?? are the twooverarching questions in this master thesis. In the essay the concept of ?offentligt rum? (openpublic space) is defined as an exterior place accessible to the general public, such as squares,Parks and streets. I have, based on the issues, identified the trends and tendencies of openpublic space in Sweden.The study consists of three sections.

Uppsala stad genomgår en stor förtätning och den urbana karaktären breder ut sig i allt större skala. Ett område i stadens östra del mellan stadsdelarna Sala backe och Årsta står inför en omfattande exploatering. På en yta motsvarande 80 hektar ska 2500 nya lägenheter och olika serviceinrättningar byggas. Satsningen på nya parker i samband med exploateringen är begränsad till endast en ny kvarterspark. Med ett öppet åkerlandskap utanför stadsgränsen och en dålig variation av parker innanför, är bristen på kvalitativa grönområden stor i denna del av staden.

Background: It has been a common perception in the media in recent years that external shopping malls extinguish the trade in Swedish downtown areas. Factors that promote external shopping malls are that customers become more and more indolent and more people buy cars. Despite this fact, downtown areas have a great deal to offer when it comes to creating a pleasant atmosphere. Furthermore, customers are becoming more demanding and want something extra while doing their shopping. More and more shopkeepers therefore realize the importance of events as an instrument to offer experiences to the customers.Purpose: To investigate whether shopkeepers in downtown Linköping consider the external shopping mall in Tornby a competitor or not and, if so, in what ways the trade in the downtown area has been affected by Tornby.

This is a graduate work at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, The Department of Urban and Rural Development, Ultuna. The purpose of this paper has been to find out and describe principles for designing Parks that offers good recreational and aesthetical values and require little amount of carbon dioxide emissions during their maintenance. The purpose has also been to see if it's possible to use city wastewater in some extent to assure the plants water supply and to find other means to make it less necessary to use purified water for watering. Recently made studies as well as older ones show how important green areas are in dense city structures both from a health and a climate perspective. Trees and other plants adsorbs different forms of air pollution and can also lower the temperature in the surrounding area through their transpiration.
