Today, there are few industries left in our cities. Industrial areas thatare located in urban settings close to water or city centers are oftenreplaced by housing. In my thesis I want to explore how such industrialsite located in an urban setting can be transformed into anindustrial park where the industrial structures are saved. By approachingthis type of environment in a positive manner, I wish tohighlight the potential aesthetic and functional value in the existingindustrial structure. Through the transformation and design of anexisting industrial site I will convey the previous use and history ofthe place.The wastewater treatment plant, Kungsängsverket, is located in thedistrict of Kungsängen in the southern part of Uppsala.

Den här rapporten om Ellinge slott är en produkt inom kursen ?Bevarande, vård och restaurering av historiska trädgårdsanläggningar?. Arbetet har skett i en grupp bestående av Karin Henriksson, Karin Ingemansson och Eva-Marie Samuelson.Syftet med rapporten är att teckna Ellinge slotts landskapliga omgivningar, trädgårdar och Parks historia. Syftet har även varit att inventera dagsläget, samt föra en diskussion med utgångspunkt i detta om hur anläggningen långsiktigt kan vårdas, skötas och bevaras.Sökandet kring Ellinge slotts historia har skett främst genom arkivstudier, kontakter med en rad olika personer samt genom besök på platsen. Vi har även gjort en kortare kartläggning av Ellinges mer allmänna historia.

In the middle of the 19th century came an opposite reaction against the hospitals? treatment of their patients and a more human way was requested. A link between crowded housing, bad hygien and other bad conditions had been noticed and nature was considered to be healthy. Hospitals and sanatiories moved closer to nature due to influences from England, USA and Germany, and cities began building public Parks. Employment was seen as calming and healthy for the patients.

My objective with the work, Travel Sketches, is to develop an approach to sketching as a landscape architect in connection with the field trip. Previous experiences and reference places are vital parts during the creation of new design proposals. It is by visiting and experiencing places that valuable knowledge is acquired. By sketching on site, with for example a pen and paper, a bank of reference objects will be established as well as an understanding of their practical success. Experiences and sketching are the basic tools of an architect.

Summary The estate of Johannishus is situated in the south of Sweden and in the province of Blekinge, about 8 kilometres from the city of Ronneby. The main building together with the park represents the province´s only example of a well preserved estate environment from the early 1800th Century, and was declared as a historic monument in 1982 because of its unique role in the province. Johannishus Park has during 300 years developed in close relation to the main building, the landscape and the surrounding infrastructure. Each century and owner has had an influence on the park, which has resulted in an interesting visible cross-section of 300 years of Swedish garden history. Most noticeable today are the traces from late 19th Century, but in its oldest parts the park contains structures from the early 18th Century.

Uppsatsen behandlar den offentliga bronsskulpturen Flicka i balja (2007) av Lena Cronqvist. Skulpturen är placerad i Halmstads till ytan största centrala park, Norre Katts park. Syftet är att undersöka hur receptionen av skulpturen påverkas genom dess placering. Teorier kring offentlig konst, plats, platsspecifik och platslös konst diskuteras. Skulpturens estetiska aspekter undersöks också i relation till den konkreta närmiljön.

Idag finns det lite forskning kring området alpinanläggningar och så kallade snowParks som många norska alpinanläggningar erbjuder. Syftet med denna studie är att skapa en större kunskap om användarnas, dvs. Snowboardåkares, preferenser som kan användas som stöd i utvecklingen av framtida norska snowParks. Vi önskar även skapa en kunskap om varför vissa anläggningar upplevs vara bättre än andra.En undersökning, baserad på Kanos et al. (1984) teori om attraktiv kvalitet, utfördes för att hitta svar på vad som gör snowboardåkare av snowParks tillfredsställda och om det finns en skillnad mellan hur olika dimensioner av snowparkprodukten bidrar till kvalitet och tillfredställelse.

Sammanfattning (English below) Jag har alltid tyckt om naturen och haft en föreställning om att all växtlighet som inte är tydligt anlagd, som en gräsmatta eller en rabatt, är något som naturen åstadkommit av sig själv. Mina ögon öppnades för alternativen när jag för första gången hörde begreppet ?naturlik plantering?. Det här arbetets syfte är att ta reda på hur lik naturen naturlika planteringar egentligen är, om de är planerat naturlika eller något som används som utfyllnad. Syftet är också att ge en indikation på vilken status den naturlika planteringen har. Arbetet består av tre delar. En historisk del som utforskar ursprunget till begreppet ?naturlik?.

SUMMARY Establish a pasture There is many valuable nature and culture landscapes in Sweden that has developed during a long period of time, throw natural processes or human use. Unfortunately lot of these are disappearing. My thought with this work is to explore the possibility to establish new areas with similar qualities. The motive for this is that attractive countryside biotopes are well worth to use as model to enrich the urban landscape. Another thought has concerned the people that establish, build and manage landscapes and Parks. They often have varied views, both coming from a difference in background and previous experiences.

The goal of this work has been to search historical materials, to identify the park's historical development, to prepare proposals on measures and that work should be the basis for further research. The aim has been to train us in searching for and use of materials and to gain an understanding of the process of work with older plants. In the process we have sought and found materials in archives, through literary and oral sources, and email contacts. Because of its excellent location perched on an islet in the low landscape Näsbyholm was long a fortress. The old castle on Näsbyholm was from the late 1400s but the site was fortified much earlier. The islet was at this time completely surrounded by water and there was a drawbridge over the narrow waterline. The owners are liable since the late 1200s.

Uppsatsen är både ett teoretiskt arbete om stadsodling och en gestaltning av en köksträdgård.Under vintern 2010 åtog sig sju studenter uppdraget att skapa en experimentell köksträdgårdsom en fördjupning och vidareutveckling av 2009 års utformning av köksträdgården vidingången till Wanås skulpturpark. Mitt examensarbete består i att utifrån en jämförande studiemellan teorierna om trädgårdsstäder kring förra sekelskiftet och den nu pågåendediskussionen om hur staden ska odlas utarbeta ett gestaltningsförslag för en del avköksträdgården.Examensarbetet grundar sig i en litteraturstudie över trädgårdsstaden där jag tar avstamp iEbenezer Howards visioner om trädgårdsstäder som en lösning på de problem som uppkomtill följd av förra sekelskiftets snabba urbanisering. När trädgårdsstadsidéerna konkretiseradesi Sverige mellan 1905 och 1930 blev det i form av förstäder och egnahemsträdgårdar. Mycketav de ideologiska utgångspunkterna om självförsörjande småstäder och kollektivt ägd markgick förlorade. Jag har jämfört trädgårdsstadens ursprungliga ideal med de tankar och visionersom finns i dagens stadsodlingsrörelser.

Competing is a well established work model among Swedisharchitects as well as in the international architect work force.Through this study we set out to get better acquainted with thiswork model in theory and in practice, and to hopefully gainknowledge that will be of use to us and to others working in thefield of architecture.Techniques, materials as well as the artistic expression ofcontemporary architecture is international and today?s architectsoperate on a global labour market. Architects often commit to workon assignments far away from where they are based. Therefore,to physically visit the site of interest may be time consuming,expensive as well as harmful to the environment. Is it possible fora designer to accomplish relevant proposals on how to develop andimprove a place that he or she has never visited? May there evenbe situations in which the outsiders point of view is preferable?These are questions that we aim to investigate, and we do sothrough participation in an international design competition.
