Volvo Penta has been producing boat engines since 1907 and are world leading in this segment. They have today an extended range and also sell industrial power stations. Quality, safety and environmental care are three core values for Volvo and together they strive to give their customers the right product with the right quality.Volvo has developed a production system named Volvo Production System, VPS, and one of the pillars is continuous improvements. Within this pillar you can find value stream mapping, which is used to analyze the value stream through the process. This tool gives a wide perspective and helps to keep focus on the entire process instead of just parts of it.Volvo Penta in Vara has earlier done value stream mapping but without good results since they didn?t take set-up times and imbalances in account.

Value stream mapping is a tool that is frequently used by many different companies. It is a great tool used to achieve the work that follows the theories of lean production. The tool is used, however, only frequent on the factory floor and the method is also designed based on this type of use.An interest of applying the method on administrative parts of the company has occurred lately. Administrative parts of the company refers to the part that does all the planning such as purchasing, receiving orders, customer contact, contact with factory floor and other work that is made around the actual manufacturing. But the knowledge about applying value stream mapping on the planning part of the company is lacking because the method is relatively new.In this work, a comparison is made between the introduction of value stream analysis on production and planning.

Bakgrund: Volvo Cars Body Components (VCBC) tillverkar och levererar karosskomponenter till Volvo Cars. För sex år sedan påbörjade VCBC sin implementering av lean production. För att beräkna de kostnader som uppstår i produktionen använder VCBC produktkalkyler. Representanter vid VCBC anser att företaget har problem med höga plåtlager, överproduktion samt problem med att se kostnadssamband. Ett value stream där förbättringsmöjligheter finns är Flöde 1 vid VCBC.
Vattenvård vid slutavverkning : före och efter vattenvårdsutbildning på Stora Enso Skog, distrikt Siljan
In 2006, Stora Enso Skog implemented an education program in water management for
harvester operators, timber purchasers, cut block planners and supervisors. The focus of the
program was creating stream crossings with minimal harm to the stream and the surrounding
riparian area. This main purpose of this study was to determine the difference in work
procedures before and after participating in the program. The methodology consisted of field
studies and interviews with harvester operators and their supervisors.
The field study looked at how the streams had been crossed concerning the number of
crossings, visible damage to the stream and/or the riparian area made by the machines.
Biological parameters such as the width and dept of the stream and amount of large woody
debris in the stream were also measured.
The field result from 30 harvesting sites showed no significant difference between sites that
had been harvested before or after the education program. But the harvester operators and
their supervisors experienced an increased concern for watersheds after the educational
program.

Headwater streams are affected by anthropogenic impacts at multiple scales.
One aspect of human impact is sediment transport associated to the
abundance of stream structures as large woody debris and the composition
of the riparian zone from forest to agricultural landscapes.
Riparian buffer zones and stream structures like dead wood are considered
as generally important structures for protection against an increasing
amount of sediment particles in the water. Hence, in this study these
structures were quantified in thirty different stream segments on land and in
the water.
To measure the transport of sediment Whitlock-Vibert boxes were used in
three different types of landscapes; forest, transition and fields. The boxes
were left in the stream segments for three months, the taken up and dried
and weighed. The results showed that the transition-land in Frösvidalsån
had the highest sediment transport. The second highest transport of
sediment was in Blackstaån at the fields.

Gestaltningen av Nord Amerikas indianer på film under tre epoker
Syftet med denna uppsats var att skapa en djupare förståelse för gestaltningen av Nord Amerikas indianer ur ett etniskt perspektiv. Uppsatsen speglar tre olika epoker, nämligen västern eran, 1970-talet och 1990-talet, men med en tonvikt på hur klassiska stereotyper gestaltas och om det finns några befintliga undantag. Med hjälp av en analysmall har jag analyserat sex olika filmer, två från varje epok för att finna likheter och skillnader i gestaltningen av Nord Amerikas indianer i så kallad Hollywood film. På så sätt har jag funnit hur tiden luckrat upp dessa stereotyper till stor del men att de fortfarande finns kvar men med mer genomtänkta och komplexa relationer sedan västern erans storhets tid. Men även att det finns ytterst få undantag från de stereotypa idealen och att faktorer som brist på översättning av indianspråk fortfarande distanserar åskådaren från att känna engagemang och empati får indianer som individer..

The purpose with this study is to find out how much dead wood we can expect us to find in a Russian reference river and compare with studies from Swedish streams. Dead wood are an important structure for the biodiversity in forest streams, studies have shown that population of trout can increase with up to 300 % when the amount of dead wood are increasing from 0 to 8 ? 16 LWD (Large woody debris)/100 m2. Dead wood are also an important structure for the stream character, formations of dams and pools which are important habitats and reproduction areas for salmon and brown trout.
The study where taken place in tributaries to the Russian river Varzuga in the North West part of Russia outside Murmansk. Varzuga has low impact of human activity and is considered to be a reference river to rivers in northern Sweden.

Jag har åt Industriteknik Nord AB konstruerat och dimensionerat en rivartillsats till deras skrotarmaskin SBU8000 och är avsedd att användas av gruvindustrin för att skrota ned löst sittande berg. Resultatet blev ett förslag till en funktionell och enkel rivartillsats som är FEM-beräknad. Denna konstruktion uppfyller följande väsentliga krav: • Den kan kombineras med hammare. • Den klarar de laster som kan påföras från bommen.

Bottenfaunan i Stensjöån och dess tillflöde Bokån : - en undersökning av tre lokaler
The purpose of this study has been to examine whether the bottom fauna of the stream Stensjöån, has been negatively influenced since the harvesting of peat began on the nearby peat moss Skäftesmyr or not. Comparison has been made with the results of index calculations from earlier examinations in the stream, two calculated indexes has been made, Danish fauna index and ASPT-index. The sampling was made with the kick sampling method, SS-EN 27 828. Three locations were chosen for the examination, one upstream from the peat moss, one just downstream from where the brook from the peat moss joins Stensjöån and a third location near the outlet of the stream to the lake Stensjön. The samples were sorted and the found animals identified to the taxonomic level required for the calculation of the two indexes.

Modern forestry requires a high degree of machine traffic for clear felling and scarification operations. The machines most frequently used are big and the traffic often results in tracks on the forest ground. There are many small streams running through a forest, in connection to logging operations, machines might cross these frequently. These crossings could result in the erosion of fine particulate inorganic matter, which ends up in the stream. The aim of this thesis was to give a general description of small forest streams of order-one in the county of Värmland and to determine the frequency of machine tracks in small streams.

Agricultural drainage is widely used to manage the amount of water in the ground in order to improve conditions for cultivation. However the effects of drainage companies on water regimes are considerable leading to runoff changes such as altered stream flows, peak flows and water levels. In a greater extent this could imply an increased risk for floods along affected watercourses. This study analyzes the extension of agricultural drainage within the drainage basin of Trosaån in Sweden by ArcGIS mapping. In a statistical analysis, historical variation in streamflow in relation to mean precipitation and mean temperature are investigated for the study area.

The background to this work was to see if there was a connection between large woody debris (LWD) and the presence of brown trout in our Swedish forest streams. Previous researches by Degerman et al. (2004) have shown that there is a strong correlation between the amount of dead wood and the presence of brown trout. The goal was then to find a way to restore, maintain and increase the trout habitats by constructing and adding manmade wooden structures that would mimic natural deadwood and its features in flowing water. The inspiration was partially taken from a water restoration program in the Klamath River of northern California, USA.

Pallco is a subcontractor that is specialized on steel and aluminium components.The aim of the report is to show an improvement proposal that leads to a reduction of the storage and improve the flow through the production of one item that is a part of a product that Pallco manufactures.With the increasing competition from other countries who can manufacture with lower costs must Swedish companies try to make theirs manufacturing as efficient as possible and remove all waste. By using the tools of Lean Production it is possible to reduce the costs and increase the efficiency.The method we used is value stream mapping. A map of the present condition has been made and then different improvement proposal were discussed. A map of a future condition has also been designed..
