Ständiga förbättringar och praktisk problemlösning : en explorativ studie på Saab Automobile AB

Continuous improvement is one of five principles in General Motors ? Global Manufacturing System (GM-GMS). GM-GMS has been used by Saab Automobile AB since 2003 and is a central component for realisation of GM?s vision. Internal audits have discovered problems with one of the tools, practical problem solving (PPS), which needs to be improved.

Företaget GM Powertrain Sweden AB utvecklar växellådor och drivlinekomponenter för den europeiska delen av General Motors. På grund av allt strängare lagkrav från myndigheterna, framförallt när det gäller miljö och utsläpp, tvingas biltillverkarna satsa allt hårdare på att reducera miljöpåverkan från bilens alla komponenter. En viktig del i att öka effektiviteten är en väl optimerad växellåda. Ett led i detta är att optimera mängden olja som är i kontakt med växellådans interna roterande delar då denna skapar ett motstånd. En sådan kontakt finns där olja rinner genom smörjhål i de ihåliga växellådsaxlarna och vidare ut till lager och synkroniseringsringar.

Utvärdering av ett system för Rapid Control Prototyping inom området robotstyrning

In this report a system for Rapid Control Prototyping, RCP, is evaluated through animplementation of the motor control methods Field Oriented Control, FOC, and Space VectorPulse Width Modulation, SVPWM. The evaluation emphasizes on time-consumption andresource utilization on the used hardware and on usability for of software.A new mechatronic laboratory is under development at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås. Itwill be used for both mechanical and motion control design using existing and new hardware.The control structure in a traditional robot system will be interfaced to a rapid prototypingsystem which should allow easy changes to algorithms at different levels in the system.The system designated for this project comes from National Instruments and constitutesLabVIEW Real-time and FPGA module as the software tools. The hardware is a NI Single-Board RIO (Reconfigurable Input Output), sbRIO, development board including a Field-Programmable Gate Array, FPGA, from Xilinx and a microprocessor from FreescaleSemiconductor. Graphical programming is performed in the LabVIEW environment, andthrough Xilinx tools the LabVIEW FPGA code is compiled to VHDL code.A pre-study was carried out to clarify the concept of RCP and investigate different systems forRCP and their traits.

Important characters for the brake caliper are high stiffness and low weight, highstiffness results in high performance and low weight is important because it is unsprung mass.This thesis investigates the possibility to improve the performance of the brake caliper for aGMproject.

The most common tool for consumers to use while searching for products online is via search engines. But because of the nature of these, not all companies can have good placements. Our research question was, "How do small online-companies attract consumers to their website"? The purpose of this thesis is to identify how a company works through online-communications and how to attract consumers to their home page.

Beräkning av värmeförluster och energieffektivisering av elbussar

The ?civilized? world is in need of fossil fuel in order to function. Hybricon AB is a company in Umeå that is developing a technology that hopefully can reduce parts of this need. They are currently testing their two electrical busses (with Hybrid backup) in city traffic on the roads of Umeå in cooperation with the county of Umeå.                               The busses are originally diesel-busses, but the diesel motor has been replaced with two electrical hub-motors with a power of 145 kW each that are powered by batteries.The batteries are charged at the end station after each route. In case the batteries should run low on capacity during driving, they can be recharged by the so called genset.

Elekta is a medical technology company and their main product in the Stockholm office is a gamma knife used for radiosurgery. The gamma knife contains a cluster of a dozen motor servos and motors used for adjusting the patient and the radiation sources over a CAN bus. A self-developed hardware-in-loop simulator running on a PC with LabVIEW is currently being used for integration level testing of the control system of the gamma knife. The simulator has some problems with it not running in real-time and having other performance issues.

This is a thesis for a Bachelor Degree Project, performed in the subject MechanicalEngineering. The students Roger Malmberg and Simon Hagberg have carried out adesign project on behalf of the recently established company J&D Assisting systems,located in Halmstad.The project consisted in developing J&D's first prototype of a power assisting solutionfor wheelchairs. A power assisted wheelchair combines human power, which is deliveredby the arms through the pushrims, with electrical motors, which are powered by a battery.The power assisted wheelchair is aimed at customers, who have used a regularwheelchair for a long time, but who have become weaker or just need additional powerwhen driving uphill. This kind of wheelchair will provide additional power for users,which will spare their wrists, elbow and shoulders. The product is torque sensor free andinstead it relies on the velocity.

A1260SammanfattningDenna uppsats behandlar hanteringen av en kunskapsintensiv process som har outsourcats. Studien är baserad på en fallstudie av General Motors (GM) Nordics outsourcing av sin kundtjänst till företaget EDS. Frågan som ställs är vad som händer med kunskapen inom processen och hur båda parter uppfattar denna kunskapshantering.Ambitionen med uppsatsen har varit att kartlägga kunskapsflödet från kunden till de ansvariga personerna på GM Nordic. Den kundbaserade kunskapen måste passera många led inom processen innan den når det slutliga målet. Genom analys har en del svagheter i processen framkommit.

This report is the result of a thesis carried out at the Department of Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT), at Mälardalen University on behalf of ABB AB Machines.The year was 1988 when ASEA and Brown Boveri formed a joint venture under the name ABB (Asea Brown Boveri).We perform our thesis at the division Discrete Automation and Motion where they primarily develops, manufactures and sells synchronous and asynchronous AC motors and generators.The main purpose of this thesis was initially to write a general packaging instruction, but the priority changed to develop more specific packaging instructions for Rotors, Stator gables, Bearing support and Outer Cover (plates) instead.The work started off to deal with a problem about that the staff had to start its work to grind away rust on the stator gables due to those stored outdoors. The result was mainly an investment in a new gable rack so that the material can be stored inside, as well as a packing instruction as it was originally intended.The problem on the bearing supports were that the staff thought it was demanding and difficult to clean them from the rustproofing they were greased in. If it is not possible to remove all rust protection it can cause the paint to not attach properly. After having compared with similar articles a test were done to order a pair of bearing supports without corrosion inhibitor, which gave good results. This initiative also set in motion a process to do the same for more different items.For special pallet, a survey were made of the process with two different VSM and a calculation of how much ABB would earn at ordering more special pallets than getting the material delivered on the A-pallets.

Duglighetsstudie: en fallstudie på SSAB Tunnplåt AB i Borlänge

I mitten av 90-talet vidareutvecklade den amerikanska bilindustrin, genom Chrysler, Ford och General Motors, ISO 9000 och resultatet blev kvalitetssystemet QS-9000. Denna kvalitetsstandard utvecklades för att biltillverkarna skulle kunna ställa gemensamma och höga krav på sina leverantörers kvalitetssystem och förbättringsarbete. Eftersom SSAB Tunnplåt tillverkar plåt som används inom bilindustrin är de certifierade enligt QS-9000. QS-9000 standarden ställer krav på det certifierade företaget att det skall arbeta med duglighet och att de vid förfrågan skall kunna påvisa att deras processer är dugliga. Den ställer även krav på att företaget regelbundet skall använda duglighetsindex.

End of line test : En studie av företaget Emotrons linjetestning i produktionen

Emotron is a company specialised in developing, producing and marketing equipment to con-trol, monitor and protect processes and machinery driven by electric motors, with an applica-tion focus. Examples of uses for their products are fans, pumps, lifts and cranes.The project is to look at Emotrons end of line test. The company has seen that at the final test-ing there is a bottleneck that restricts the outflow and prevents an increase in the number of tested products.The purpose of this project is to review how Emotrons end-of-line test works today and if there is a possibility to make the test more efficient in such a way that the quality is not at risk, while increasing the outflow of tested products.The projects first step is to look at and analyse what is causing the bottleneck at the end-of-line. When the analysis is complete, the next step is to review whether there is a possibility to solve the bottleneck and if so in what way can this be done. Emotrons most overall objective of the project is to increase the outflow of the number of tested products without jeopardizing the quality.An analysis has been made on frequency inverters, soft starters and shaft power monitors.

Analys och metodutveckling avseendeemissionsprovning på helfordon

I dagens samhälle får miljöfrågor allt större betydelse i den offentliga debatten. Dettagör att mer och mer fokus läggs på metoder att begränsa de miljöfarliga utsläppen somförekommer runt omkring oss. Det gäller inte minst fordonsindustrin där stor vikt läggsvid att begränsa avgasemissionerna som fordonen ger upphov till.För att kunna begränsa ett fordons emissioner är det viktigt att känna till motornsemissionsegenskaper vid verklig drift på väg. Detta examensarbete behandlarmöjligheterna att komplettera emissionsprovning på väg med enklare metoder i syfte attskatta och/eller bekräfta dessa egenskaper.Den referensmetod som valts vid undersökningen är prov på ett fordon underdrift påväg, med en emissionsmätutrustning från Horiba. De metoder som sedan jämförts medreferensmetoden är:? Prov på väg med data från motorstyrsystemet? Prov på chassidynamometer? Prov i motorprovcell? Simulering i STARS.Undersökningen visar att metoden att mäta emissioner på väg med data från fordonetsstyrsystem har stor potential för goda skattningar av motorns emissionsegenskaper, förgod skattning av absoluta emissionsnivåer krävs dock att en kalibrerad sensor används.viDe prov som genomförts på chassidynamometer har i denna undersökning inte givitkonsekvent resultat på grund av reglerproblem, och metodens egenskaper har ej kunnatfastställas.Prov i motorprovcell har visat viss potential för skattningar av emissionsegenskaper,men i dagsläget krävs en bättre kunskap om hur i första hand de dynamiskaemissionsegenskaperna påverkas av de termiska skillnader som i många fall existerarmellan prov på väg och i motorprovcell.Det visar sig också att simuleringsprogrammen inte är tillräckligt välutvecklade för attkunna ge bra skattningar av emissionerna vid de dynamiska lastförlopp somkännetecknar drift på väg.

Etableringsprocessen på en tillväxtmarknad : En fallstudie om Scanias etableringsprocess på den indiska marknaden.

Objective: The objective of this thesis is to investigate how Scania has attained success to establish on the Indian market and to inquire into the establishment process of Scania and their entrance in the Indian market. The thesis describes different factors such as the product, mode of entry, time of entry and choice of market that play a role when a company establishes and invest in a foreign market.Method: This thesis is limited to the process of establishing Scania on the Indian truck market. A qualitative approach has being utilized in this study, consisting of interviews withStaffan Sjöström, development manager at the R&D department, Koen Knoops, vice president at Financial Services and Henrik Fagrenius, former managing director for Scania in India. Data collection from various journals and articles have been conducted for the presentation of the number of sold newly registered trucks in comparison to the number of sold newly registered trucks in India by Volvo, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland during 2010, 2011, 2012 and the first three quarters of 2013.Theory: With a starting-point in empirism, we have used a theoretical frame of reference to describe Scania´s establishment process. Scania makes use of an internationalization strategy, namely Market Selection, Time of Entry and Entry mode and the network model, which describes the process of establishing on a foreign market as a business association with various players on the market.
