Volvo Human Monitoring (VHM) is an ongoing project at Volvo Cars where they measure, amongst other parameters, inhalation and exhalation through a device called Respiratory Inductance Plethysmograph (RIP), on drivers. RIP measures changes in the cross-sectional area of the chest and abdomen. When the driver is in motion, such as when she is turning the vehicle, the cross-sectional area changes and noise in the RIP signal may arise.The noise results in a large number of manual adjustments in the analysis of the RIP signal, which is very time consuming and the validity of the device for measuring inhalation and exhalation is questioned.The purpose of this study was to improve the efficiency of the analysis of the RIP signal. The goal was to create a new data processing tool in Matlab that automatically detects inhalation and exhalation from a RIP signal with higher validity compared to the previous data processing tool.In this study, nine tests were performed on drivers while they were driving in different scenarios such as highway, country road and in city traffic. Inhalation and exhalation was measured using a RIP, a pneumotachograph with a tightly sealed facemask and a thermocouple placed between the nose and mouth, which was used as reference to the RIP.The result of this study was a data processing tool that automatically detects inhalation and exhalation with higher validity compared to the previous data processing tool.

I detta examensarbete undersöks hur informationstavlor vid Volvo PV AB, motor, Östra fabriken, Skövde påverkar montörerna som arbetar där i deras arbete. Uppdraget som undersökaren fick av Volvo var att undersöka vilken betydelse de informationstavlor som sitter vid varje modul/arbetsstation spelar i det dagliga arbetet. De här informationstavlorna visar hur många motorer som ska produceras per vecka. Metoden som användes i undersökningen var en kvalitativ intervjubaserad undersökning, med 24 deltagande montörer.Resultatet visar att den information som fås via tavlorna är av stor vikt och behövs i någon form. Det finns dock vissa betydande brister som påverkar montörerna negativt på olika sätt.

Är det möjligt att via sätet öka säkerheten och samtidigt förbättra körupplevelsen för yrkesförare?Med fokus på form och uttryck har jag tillsammans med Volvo Trucks designat ett haptiskt förarsäte som genom vibrationer och ljudikoner informerar föraren om faror och navigering. Med syftet att minska arbetsbelastningen i en tid när digitala hjälpmedel ökar men riskerar att överbelasta vår visuella perception. .

The purpose of this thesis is to identify the most important establishment criteria for companies whointend to do a new establishment. There are differences between regions regarding attraction on startup.Some regions have few new businesses while others continuously expanded its activities in variousfields. The biggest focus on the thesis is the Gävle- Borlänge region where MellansvenskaHandelskammaren is active.Mellansvenska Handelskammaren saw a need for the assignment after the magazine ?IntelligentLogistik? ranked the Gävle region at 15:th place and Falun/Borlänge at 20:th place in the list over thetop 25 best logistics locations in Sweden. This made them wonder what could be made to develop intoa better area with more amenities and a better place in the ranking of the magazine.

The ability to tackle NP-hard problems has been greatly extended by the introduction of Metaheuristics (see Blum & Roli (2003)) for a summary of most Metaheuristics, general problem-independent optimisation algorithms extending the hill-climbing local search approach to escape local minima. One of these algorithms is Iterated Local Search (ILS) (Lourenco et al., 2002; Stützle, 1999a, p. 25ff), a recent easy to implement but powerful algorithm with results comparable or superior to other state-of-the-art methods for many combinatorial optimisation problems, among them the Traveling Salesman (TSP) and Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP). ILS iteratively samples local minima by modifying the current local minimum and restartinga local search porcedure on this modified solution. This thesis will show how ILS can be implemented for MSA.

Volvo Construction Equipment AB Components Division i Eskilstuna är mitt inne i ett omorganisationsarbete där fabriken byggs om från funktionsverkstad till flödesorienterade grupper detta för att effektivt möta den växande orderingången. När gruppernas värdeflöden tydligtgjorts återstår ett intensivt arbete med att optimera ledtider, lagernivåer och produkter i arbete med mera. Ett kraftfullt verktyg för att stötta detta arbete är diskret händelsestyrd (DE) simulering. Det har genomförts flertalet DE simuleringar tidigare på företaget, då främst av konsulter. I den nya fabriken finns en önskan om att utföra detta arbete själv.

Samhället utvecklas i en rask takt och det kan ses även i organisationerna. Ledarskapet har förändrats idag jämfört med hur det var förr i tiden. En gång i tiden hade vi i Sverige auktoritära ledare som pekade med hela handen och idag har ledarna blivit allt mer demokratiska och tänker på sina anställda. Trots att ledarskapet idag har blivit mer demokratiskt inriktat råder inte den stilen överallt. Inom Volvo Personvagnar fann vi en motsatt utveckling, där de auktoritära dragen börjat synas mer de senaste åren.

Volvo Construction Equipment is one of the worlds largest manufacturer of heavymachinery. In Braås, Sweden, they develop and manufacture articulated haulers inseveral sizes. The biggest, the A40, is capable of loading almost 40 metric tonnes.These haulers have a bogie to distribute the forces of the load evenly onto the two axlesand there wheels. The bogie is constructed using a rigid balance beam on each side ofthe frame connecting the axles or an independent solution using hydropneumatics.An analysis has been made in order to establish the forces created during corneringand through the theory, an estimation of the extensive tyre wear and extra fuelconsumption has been made. All due to the effects of the tyres not being inline with thecornering radius.

Good comfort for the driver of a construction machine is crucial. Gearshift comfort is an important part of the total comfort. Volvo Construction Equipment Components has a simulation environment of the powertrain, SimPow, which is implemented in Matlab/Simulink. SimPow is mostly used for simulation of control strategies and performance. In order to be able to study gearshifting comfort, Volvo has an interest in developing new models for SimPow.

Globalization and demographic changes are forcing today?s companies to be more competitive in order to reach success. The increasing competition is proving a challenge for companies to recruit and retain competent, talented staff. To meet these challenges, Talent Management was developed during the 1990s and supplies a new and innovative way to deal with personnel management. Due to Talent Management being a relatively new theory, there is at present no generally accepted definition of the theory.

Antalet sjukskrivna har sedan slutet av 1990-talet ökat dramatiskt. Framför allt är det sjukskrivna p g a psykisk ohälsa som har ökat. Arbetsförhållandena tillskrivs ofta stor betydelse. Det känns därför angeläget att arbeta förebyggande på arbetsplatserna för att reducera stressfaktorer och i förlängningen minska sjukskrivningstalet.Syftet med den här studien är att utvärdera ett stresshanteringsprogram för en grupp bestående av 14 produktionstekniker anställda på Volvo Lastvagnar AB, Umeå. Alla i fullt arbete.

Med denna uppsats utformade författarna en huvudfråga vars syfte var att verifiera ifall prisförmån, kvalité, service samt aktning verkligen var basen för åkeriägarnas samt lastbilschaufförernas relevanta preferenser vid val av lastbils fabrikat, Eller om det möjligen fanns andra betydelsefullare preferenser att beakta. Då Sverige har två stora lastbilstillverkare, var Scania samt Volvo givna undersökningsobjekt för författarnas studie inom kundtillfredsställelse..

Bakgrund: Volvo Cars Body Components (VCBC) tillverkar och levererar karosskomponenter till Volvo Cars. För sex år sedan påbörjade VCBC sin implementering av lean production. För att beräkna de kostnader som uppstår i produktionen använder VCBC produktkalkyler. Representanter vid VCBC anser att företaget har problem med höga plåtlager, överproduktion samt problem med att se kostnadssamband. Ett value stream där förbättringsmöjligheter finns är Flöde 1 vid VCBC.

The overall aim of this study is to examine how Swedish women?s youth- magazines describes women. Through a social constructivist perspective, this essay particularly focuses on how the magazines deals with issues of gender and sexuality and what norms they reproduce. The magazine?s image of the young Swedish woman is a somewhat complex one, although one thing is strikingly clear: she is very different from men.

The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the work with line extensions by companies in the media industry. To obtain this purpose a case study was performed to learn about Norrbottens Media?s actions regarding their new launch of the magazine Extra. Information was gathered through an interview and media observations and was analyzed and compared to previous studies on the subject. Results of this case study show that the main reasons for the company?s line extension were new trends on the market and that the company had unexploited recourses to make use of.
