In this master thesis I investigate different views on literary quality in two quite different library journals; Biblioteksbladet and Bibliotek i Samhälle. One aim of the study is to see whether the ambiguity of the term literary quality is considered. Since there is no universally accepted definition of literary quality to be found the analysis is inspired by discourse analysis. This theoretical frame work starts off in the assumption that our views of the world are much dependent the way we describe it. The work of Finnish scholar Sanna Talja is presented and the results of this thesis are compared with the three perspectives on music culture that are presented in her book.

Java och C# är två objektorienterade programmeringsspråk med många gemensamma egenskaper, dock har dessa egenskaper syntaxmässiga skillnader. En tidigare undersökning har visat att mindre än 5 % av källkoden behöver ändras för att konvertera ett fungerande Java-program till ett likadant fungerande C#-program. Frågeställningar baserade på denna upptäckt togs fram och besvarades genom att jämföra två identiska program skrivna i Java och C#, skillnader och likheter mellan programmens källkod pekas ut och sammanställs kvantitativt. Skillnader består av bl.a. språkens nyckelord, klasser och metoder som motsvarar varandra i språkens bibliotek har olika namn och beteenden samt att finesser som finns i ena språket återfinns inte i det andra.

I denna uppsats har vi valt att analysera hur olika karaktärer framställs utifrån ett genusperspektiv. Böckerna vi har valt att analysera är tre av Tove Janssons berättelser om Mumintrollet och hans vänner som utgavs för första gången 1948, 1954 och 1970, trots detta säljs de fortfarande i stor utsträckning och utlånas frekvent på bibliotek. Genom kvalitativ textanalys har vi undersökt återkommande beteendemönster och personbeskrivningar för att få reda på hur kvinnliga respektive manliga karaktärer beskrivs med hjälp av både inre egenskaper och yttre attribut. Resultatet visar att omsorg om andra, utseendefixering och känslomässigt engagemang är något som tillskrivs de kvinnliga karaktärerna medan de manliga karaktärerna ägnar sig åt sig själva, är eller vill vara modiga. Denna uppsats behandlar fyra svenska böcker för barn i åldrarna 8 ? 14 år som varit mest utlånade på Halmstad bibliotek under 2008. Titlarna som analyserats är Fixa pengar annars?! av Lena Lilleste, Det brinner! av Laura Trenter, Den danske rånaren av Petter Lidbeck samt Den trettonde gästen av Martin Widmark. Syftet med uppsatsen var att se hur killar och tjejer, samt män och kvinnor, framställs i litteraturen.

In this diploma work we present the results from a study of how adult immigrants utilise the services provided by the public library in Biskopsgården, Gothenburg. A survey encompassing 51 library visitors of foreign origin and an interview with two librarians at the library were performed.The results from the survey show that the majority of the informants were male students inages from 26 to 45 years and that they had been living in Sweden for a maximum of five years. 73% of the informants used the library to borrow literature in Swedish, 53% to read newspapers and periodicals in their native language, 43% to borrow literature in their native language and 43% to read newspapers and periodicals in Swedish.These results were compared with two other related studies with which partial correspondencewas found. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the local debate on the Music library in Västervik to see what arguments, pro et contra, that constitutes it. Since its opening the Music library has faced regular threats of being closed down. This is an issue interesting due to several factors, its lack of guaranteed public funding and relative importance to Västervik´s attempts at city branding being two. Using argument analysis, the thesis proposes that the local debate shows traces of both instrumental and culture centered, intrinsical views of the Music library, and that the instrumental view holds both negative and positive poles of opinion while the intrinsical counterpart is one-sidedly positive. Further, the thesis argues that this is in line with a long since documented shift in cultural politics towards a more market oriented discourse..

We have produced a process mapping and from there developed a document management plan for the research service at the Labour Movement Archives and Library (ARAB) in Stockholm, Sweden. The project was conducted during five weeks in the spring of 2011 at ARAB and the resulting classification structure and document plan has been formulated and presented to the staff at a seminar. We found that the institution in some cases were suffering from an inadequate documentation in a number of the identified processes, and also in their records management and archiving. In this additional memorandum follows an analyzing discussion of activity-based document- and archive management, e-archives and process mapping. We have accordingly tried to standardize the process of research services and contribute to a more adequate document management within the institution.

What positive and negative experience do they have from their stay at the HVB-home? We also wish to get a picture of what is important to change to improve the quality on this HVB-home. The purpose of this thesis was to explore the phenomenon called bookcrossing. To fulfill this I have asked the following research questions: Why do people participate in bookcrossing?What functions do books have for bookcrossers? The method used is qualitative, semi structured interviews. Four active bookcrossers have been interviewed. These interviews revealed that bookcrossing as an activity in a medium sized town is very small.

The aim of this paper is to investigate who the visitors are at a children's department at amain library in a larger municipality, and for what purpose they use it. We discuss: Is therea difference between various user groups, and if so, how do they differ'? Which library rolesdoes the children's department have? Does the children's department serve as a local libraryfor those who live in the immediate surroundings or as a main library for the whole municipality?The paper is based on a user survey performed in the spring of 1996 at the City Library ofGothenburg. 417 visitors and five staff members were interviewed.The children's department is used by various groups of people, from young children to seniorcitizens. The library roles are, among other things, an independent learning center and formaleducation support center.

The purpose of this essay is to study the process of developing electronic subject guides for the Internet. Our focus is the content, structure and layout of the subject guide. The study has resulted in a number of guidelines that may be of help in the development of future subject guides. To achieve this purpose we have studied the existing subject guide at one of the faculties of the University of Lund, Sweden. We performed a series of interviews with the originators, and made a questionnaire for the users.

Jag har valt att studera hur valet av barnlitteratur ser ut på tre förskolor. Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka hur barnlitteraturen kommer till förskolan. Den väg som jag inriktat mig på är pedagoger på förskolor som är verksamma som läsinspiratörer via biblioteket. Jag undersöker hur de påverkar urvalet av böcker som finns för barnen på förskolan. Genom att undersöka vägen som litteraturen tar innan den hamnar på förskolan vill jag synliggöra valet som biblioteket och pedagogerna gör av böcker och se hur anpassad litteratururvalet blir till barnen.
