The focus of this work is to study whether public libraries should offer their patrons unlimited access to the Internet, or restrict which sites they can visit. The most common tool used to limit Internet access is filtering software. The author has administered four interviews with public librarians working in libraries in Southern Sweden. All four librarians had different opinions about restricting Internet access. The most important question asked was if they had chosen to use filtering, and the reasons for their decision.

The research of this Masters thesis examines if during a specific period of time, Environmental scanning connected to Swedish public libraries is discussed in journals that are directly connected to the field of Swedish libraries. The method employed was content analysis of articles, news items and ads with the intention of finding out the extent of Environmental scanning and who carries it out and how and what is scanned. The research covers the period from 2004-01-01 to 2004-08-31. During the research period 1387 articles, news items and ads were analyzed. The study focuses on 81 selected published units that directly include references or discussion about Environmental scanning.

With an increased empowerment of the users, and a dependence on outside critics, one wonders what kind of role the librarians have in a context where qualitative literature is discussed. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between librarians private and professional views on qualitative fiction, in order to be able to discuss their role as quality intermediaries in a user oriented context.The method used, is the qualitative, semistructured interview. This author interviewed seven librarians from three different libraries in Sweden. The theoretical emphasis partly relies on the ten words of qualitative value that Inger Elam and Bengt BrĂŒlde discusses in their respective texts, partly on David Garvins quality assessment theory, which defines several quality categories divided between an absolute and a relative quality view.Through the comparison between the private and the professional quality view, examined with the two theoretical approaches, the analysis of the interview material shows that there lies a complexity in the librarians professional role. On the one hand, they are dependent of both the users and the critics judgements about the qualitative aspect in the work with purchasing new literature to the library.

Metod: Vi har genomf?rt en fallstudie av ett samverkande arrangemang mellan offentlig sektor och civilsamh?llet som h?r utg?rs av en statlig myndighet, en kommun och flera Arbetsintegrerade sociala f?retag (ASF). Den huvudsakliga datainsamlingen f?r studien ?r semistrukturerade intervjuer vilket genomf?rts med akt?rer ur samverkansarrangemanget.

Of all observable societal trends, the proliferation of standardizing processes is striking. Auditing standards are an illustrative example of this. Not only privately owned companies must today make available numbers and key figures to satisfy needs of information and knowledge. Government agencies are increasingly conforming to this trend, adopting standards for quality assurance and monitoring, producing numbers and annual reports ? despite their somewhat ambiguous task and role.

The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how a Swedish public library approaches their costumers. I will show how a library interacts with their costumers compared to a business, which has a different economic work frame, a building materials supplier. My aim is to pinpoint differences and explore new methods for the library in order to improve their service.The theoretical frame of the thesis is based on Richard Norman's notion the Moment of truth. The moment of truth is the moment when a business has to convince their customer that they offer both the product, proficiency and service that the customer needs. Service encounters at two organizations have been observed and their differences and similarities compared.

Metod: Strukturerad litteratur?versikt d?r kvalitativa studier och studier av mixad metod s?ktes via databaserna Cinahl, PubMed, PsycInfo och genom manuell s?kning.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to see why there seem to be little interest in the management position at the public libraries. Since librarianship is a field that are proportionally dominated by women we chose to approach the study with a gender perspective. This study has excluded men and our main interest is the women?s point of view.

The aim of this thesis is to examine librarians' view on the knowledge and competence required at a small public library and how they look upon their education in retrospect. Library education in the 1970's and 1980's was mainly practical, a vocational training, but since 1995 the education results in an academic degree in Library & Information Science. Due to this, we focus on the ongoing generation shift in Swedish libraries as an aspect of knowledge and education. The empirical study is based on interviews with librarians working in minor public libraries. The informants form two groups, based on their education; ?old? ones and ?new? ones.

Syftet med denna studie Àr att synliggöra nÄgra elevers svÄrigheter nÀr det gÀller de centrala aspekterna i grundlÀggande taluppfattning, med fokus pÄ addition och subtraktion. Studien grundar sig pÄ 13 intervjuer med elever i Ärskurs 3-5. Som utgÄngsmaterial för intervjuerna anvÀndes den muntliga diagnosen Individuella samtal som ingÄr i Diagnostiska uppgifter i matematik för anvÀndning i de tidiga skolÄren (Skolverket, 2010c). I samband med intervjuerna observerades Àven hur eleverna konkretiserar uppgifterna med stöd av sina fingrar och tiobasmaterial. Den muntliga diagnosen ger en tydlig bild av vilka strategier eleverna anvÀnder sig av nÀr de löser en uppgift samt visar vilka svÄrigheter eleverna har nÀr det gÀller grundlÀggande taluppfattning.Studiens resultat visar att eleverna har svÄrigheter med den grundlÀggande taluppfattningen, dock i varierande grad.

Undersökningen har en abduktiv ansats med i huvudsak en kvalitativ metod, men en del av empirin utgörs dock av kvantitativ data i tabellform tagen frÄn Ärsredovisningar. VÄra kvalitativa data utgörs av intervjuer med de fyra storbankerna och Finansinspektionen dÀr internrevisionen Àr i fokus. En av Internrevisionens viktigaste uppgifter Àr att förse företagets ledning med tillförlitlig och relevant information sÄ att de kan fatta riktiga beslut. Internrevisionens mÄl skiljer sig frÄn externrevisionens mÄl, men ofta kan de dra nytta av varandras arbete. En banken kan med andra ord tjÀna pengar pÄ en effektiv IR.

In this study my aim has been to discover what connections can be made between the way of creating a library building and the general values concerning the library activities and the library users. What kind of ideology could possibly be reflected in a library room? My study includes two different parts. First of all there is a theoretical section based upon literature relevant for the subject. Here I try to focus on the libraryÕs role in society as a public room.

The aim of this BachelorŽs thesis is to investigate how library statistics, performance measurement and indicators represent the modern public library activity. During the last decades the public library has gone through a lot of changes. Information overall has increased and new technology has been introduced into the library. This new development has had effects on the library users. The statistics reported to the Statens kulturrÄd (National Arts Council) has not changed in the same way.

Att sÀkra ett anvÀndbart system under utvecklingsfasen Àr oerhört svÄrt och tidskrÀvande.Ett arbetssÀtt föddes i samband med tanken om att utveckla anvÀndbara system. Med Usability Engineering menas att utvecklingen av ett system slutligen skulle leda till en definierat anvÀndbart system och ibland Àven garanterad anvÀndbarhet.
