A growing problem in Swedish herbicide free agriculture, the Canadian thistle has been the object of several new trials, seeking methods for non-chemical weed control. The new trials have mainly confirmed earlier experiences; that the most successful methods of control are springtime ploughing, repeated cutting and competition from a stout crop. Row hoeing has also been proven effective. As opposed to earlier recommendations, half season fallow has shown to be a risky and often ineffective method of control. Trials regarding biological methods have shown that above others thistle rust (Puccinia punctiformis) may have the potential of controlling Canadian thistle the future. .

Frågan om selektionsenheter handlar om vilka entiteter, gener, individer eller grupper, som det naturliga urvalet verkar på. Vilka av dessa uppfyller det naturliga urvalets krav på variation, ärftlighet och skillnader i konkurrensförmåga? Den klassiska synen är att urvalet verkar på individer. Individer som är altruistiska, i betydelsen att degynnar andra individers överlevnad och reproduktion på bekostnad av sig själva, har beteenden som är osannolika att uppkomma om individer fungerar som selektionsenheter. Om grupper kan fungera som selektionsenheter kan altruistiska beteenden utvecklas, eftersom grupper med större andel altruister får konkurrensfördelar gentemot andra grupper.Argument för gener som selektionsenheter är bland annat att de utgör den kausala grunden till allaanpassningar och är de enda strukturer som bevaras över evolutionär tid.

Vi har valt att granska Tragetons metod för skriv- och läslärande. Enligt Trageton (2005) har de senaste tjugo årens forskning pekat mot att skrivning är lättare än läsning. Detta arbete har testat att använda en genetisk algoritm, en teknik inom artificiell intelligens, där uppgiften har varit att automatiskt generera nivåer till pusselspelet Solve It. This essay is a study regarding the existence of Bronze Ages and Iron Ages battlefields in Scandinavia and the possibility to trace and find them by using the Battlefield Archaeological Method.Based on a theoretical background and results from historical battlefield research and excavation experiences, the discussion deals with some of the problems and possibilities of applying the Battlefield Archaeological Method on older places. The existence of these battlegrounds is also an unknown factor, and a major part of this study is trying to find evidence of their existence. For that purpose I am using as an example a deeper analysis of an Iron Age battlefield archaeological excavation in Germany in order to compare and draw parallels with the Scandinavian society of that time.
