This essay shows how the concept of virtue can deepen our understanding considering processes of empowerment. A virtue is understood as a trait of character, manifested in habitual action, that it is good for person a to have. Virtues are interpreted as socially constructed. Empowerment is presented as a process toward self-confidence and self-determination where recourses and freedom propels the development toward power for the individual, the household and the community. Why does the concept of virtue deepen our understanding? It is argued that our theoretical perceptive of empowerment needs to better encompass values, norms and practise.

The main purpose of this thesis is to explore journalists? views of the role of journalism in the asylum processes. The potentially problematic phenomenon is growing, and its spread will affect the way publishing decisions are made in the future. The subject is new and foreign to many journalists, and little to no research has previously been done on the subject. Our study will therefore provide new insight in the field of journalism ethics.We have conducted a qualitative study based on interviews with eight Swedish journalists who in oneway or another have reported on threatened asylum seekers.

The purpose of this essay is to analyse and understand how students, as consumers, choose brands from the aspects of the concept of CSR, the economic, social and environmental. The essay is based on a qualitative method with three focus groups, with five respondents in each of them. The respondents are all studying at Kalmar University and they have all studied some kind of economic-course. We have used a lot of different sources for our theory chapter, this because of the fact that we wanted to have different angles, so that we would be able to cover all of the questions we wanted to discuss in the focus groups. In our two final chapters we discuss the issues similar to the theory section and we highlight our own thoughts.

The first aim of this study is to discuss and try to understand the relationship between the holy andethics, and more specifically how it can be understood, which is the critical question that I haveformulated, in Giorgio Agamben?s and Emmanuel Levinas? philosophies. The second, moreconstructive aim is to discuss whether the holy can be understood as something good or problematicin relation to the society.Rooted in philosophy of religion and ethics, I have first tried to discuss how the holy has beenunderstood in the philosophy of phenomenology and in the texts of Rudolf Otto, Mircea Eliade andEspen Dahl. The holy has in the history been understood as something central in religions, and hasalso not been connected to the idea of ethics. Recently it has also been critized ? by Dahl ? for notbeing so pure as first thought of.In Levinas texts the holy has been understood as something differentiated through his distiction,in the Talmudic reading ?Desacralization and Disenchantment?, between the holy, which can beseen as something pure, and the sacred which can been seen as something impure and a form ofdegenerated holiness.

Swedish childcare has undergone radical changes in the last 15 to 20 years. It has evolved from kindergarten to pre-school, in other words, gone from simple childcare to an active learning environment with the child as the center. Official documents, such as the pre-school curriculum and other guide documents, define the role and work ethics of the pre-school teacher. In my thesis I argue that it is essential to have an ongoing and continuous discussion at pre-schools on the practical applications of these frameworks and ambitious goals.What do you do when you simply cannot give every child the individual time they should have according to rules and regulations? How do you stay an active and present pedagogue in today?s pre-school with large classes and heavy workloads? How do you establish a common professional work ethics within a pre-school so that all children are treated equally? In my scientific essay, I examine these issues based on a real-life situation: Ellen in the hallway.A pedagogue must continuously make balanced decisions based on rules and regulations, on life- and work experience which, in many cases, contradict each other.

Eventing is often called as the formula 1 in equestrian sports and comprises three disciplines: dressage, show jumping and cross-country. The sport provides excitement, challenge and joy and is the ultimate sport for intelligent riders and horses. Many are fascinated by the challenges the sport offers while other consider it foolhardy to ride a cross-country. Eventing is not a risk-free sport and has even been given the label of being one of the world´s most dangerous sports. What do those risks mean to the horse? And particularly, is it associated with good animal ethics to use the horse for eventing? Finding answers to these questions is not easy as it probably is not a clear and simple answer.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how six students at a Secondary School describes interaction patterns among teachers when students express in a way that the teacher perceives as racist and/or xenophobic, by presenting a qualitative interview study. The interviews were analyzed by two opposing models of value education: the traditional and the constructive model.The results show that students divide teachers in different categories based on five qualities: 1) they listening, 2) they accept students' opinions, 3) they allow discussion, 4) they are knowledgeable and 5) they can express their own opinions.These qualities are included in the value pedagogical model for deliberative conversations, whose strategies for interaction aim to create an understanding of different rules and values, thereby creating skills of rules by using a democratic approach. In contrast to this model, the rule-based moral education, in which the teacher uses his authority and refers to rules without giving an explanation for why they occurred, as strategies. .

This thesis compares different justifications of human rights with the philosophy of Axel Hägerström. Hägerström´s philosophy uses a strict logic and discards the notion of the existence of absolute values and moral right and wrong. The justifications that are examined are those of Robert Nozick, Alan Gewirth and the postmodern view. Nozick emanates from arguments of natural law, which is rejected by Hägerström as metaphysics. Gewirths logical justification emanates in part from moral arguments and hence differentiates from Hägerström, but it can be used for constructing a practical application of Hägerström's philosophy and thereby motivate a legislation relating to human rights.

Hur motiveras Sveriges deltagande i internationella insatser? Överväger nytta eller moral?Med utgångspunkt i klassisk retorik undersöks genom kvalitativ textanalys och komparativ metod hur deltagande i internationella insatser motiveras. Genom att studera övergripande och policygivande dokument undersöks hur den generella motivbilden är konstruerad, vilket därefter används till att utforma det analysverktyg som används för att undersöka och jämföra insatsspecifika motiv. Tre insatser undersöks: UNIFIL (2006-2007), EUFOR Tchad/RCA (2008) och OUP Libyen (2011).Resultatet antyder att deltagandet motiveras med både nytta och moral. I den generella motivbilden överväger nyttomotiven, varvid egennyttiga motiv ges en framträdande plats.

The subject of this study is the ?work strategy? (arbetslinjen); the idea that work and active measures are preferred over cash benefits. The aim of the study is to investigate why the work strategy, which has been almost undisputed for nearly a century, has had widely changing contents over the years, what measures have been taken and which groups have been included. It also attempts to find out whether there is a correlation between unemployment rates, society and the different aspects of the work strategy. The study is conducted as an idea analysis, mainly of dissertations on the work strategy and public inquiries, and covers five time periods from the 1920?s until today.

En förmån uppfattas vara muta i en situation men inte i en annan. Det är ofta svårt att själv avgöra om det är frågan om muta eller inte. Brottsbalkens lagbestämmelser gällande bestickning och mutbrott är inte precisa utan har stor tolkningsvidd. Uppsatsens syfte var att undersöka hur muta uppfattas enligt rättspraxis mot folklig moral. Vi har använt rättsdogmatisk metod samt sociologisk metod för vår undersökning, som genomfördes med hjälp av enkäter.

De handläggare på Försäkringskassan vi intervjuade anslöt sig till en tankegång vari en viss typ av etisk dimension negligeras, vilken kännetecknas av medmänsklighet och viljan att göra flexibla regeltolkningar för att i möjligaste mån fatta det beslut som är mest gynnsamt för klienten. Byråkratiska krav på instrumentella mål i kombination med förväntningarna på att agera i linje med den socialt konstruerade normen kan betraktas som två övergripande strukturella processer vilka konstituerar den moral som vägleder handläggarna. Att tala samma språk är en förutsättning för ett gott ledarskap - En studie av lärande och förväntningar i samband med en ledarskapsutbildning skrevs i syfte att undersöka den upplevelse som studiens informanter förmedlar av en utbildning och ledarskap. Målet är att söka reda på de eventuella behållningar deltagare och företag haft av en ledarskapsutbildning samt den undervisning deltagarna fått ta del av. Studien avser vidare ge en bild av vad situationsanpassat ledarskap innebär utifrån litteraturen och den konsultfirma företaget använt sig av för att hålla i utbildningen. Vidare kommer en jämförelse att göras mellan den information som står skriven i företagets etiska riktlinjer, Code of Ethics och bilden av situationsanpassat ledarskap.Uppsatsens har en kvalitativ ansats som utgångspunkt med åtta intervjuer som är uppdelade i två informantgrupper, en deltagargrupp och en initiativtagargrupp. Den slutsats studien kommer fram till är att deltagarnas upplevelser av ledarskapsutbildningen är av positiv karaktär.
