Care and solicitude about Swedish documentary heritage has varied substantially throughout the years. The main purpose of this essay has been to investigate what efforts have been made to preserve rare book collections at public libraries. These cultural policies have been studied from both a national as well as local perspective. What we have tried to explore can be condensed into three questions: What national initiatives have been taken in the past century to preserve the municipal documentary heritage?What initiatives have been taken in the past century to preserve thedocumentary heritage of what is presently the municipality of Jönköping? What value do rare book collections at public libraries represent? The results indicate few national efforts were initially made to preserve rare book collections in the timeframe we studied.

The aim of this master's thesis is to study how the design of the music library space affects how it is used and its role as an arena for culture. This is done in form of a case study of Library 10 in Helsinki, a public library branch that specializes in music and information technology. The backdrop to the study is the changing context for cultural activity in the information society and the role of public libraries as public space and meeting place. By analyzing the distribution of space in the library, the distribution of functions and artefacts and the spatial use of the room, I interpret the ways in which this distributional logic produces a unique place for music and culture. I discuss the music library design in a space and place perspective, utilizing theoretical tools from cultural geography and the space theories of Henri Lefebvre.

Uppdraget att göra denna studie fick vi av Röda Korsets Behandlingscenter i Skövde och frågor väcktes om hur det kan vara att som flykting komma till ett nytt land och starta om på nytt. Syftet med studien var att söka en fördjupad kunskap om äldre invandrares upplevelser av sin integration i det svenska samhället. Begreppet ?äldre invandrare? syftade på personer födda före 1954 då dessa personer kulturmässigt var de äldre i patientgruppen på RKC. Studien behandlade både män och kvinnor, kategoriserades i olika teman och analyse¬rades därefter ur teoretiska utgångspunkter om identitet och kris.

This master thesis deals with reading and library habits among young male students at the vehicle engineering programme in an upper secondary school. Also their overall opinion of libraries has been looked into. For the completion of this study all of the 43 students in question took part in a questionnaire while 5 of them were interviewed. The result of this statistical survey complemented with more focused interviews show that at some time or another all the students read, but their preference lies within the news and engineering pages of daily newspapers and periodicals. Those who read books choose action and fantasy for content.

Parkeringsproblemet finns i storstäder över hela världen. Med fler människor som skaffar bilar och större städer som inte hinner med i utvecklingen av stadsplaneringen så kommer problemen att öka. Felparkeringsavgifterna i Sverige ökar år efter år och datumparkering är en stor del av det i Gävle. Syftet med arbetet är att utveckla en prototyp på en parkeringsapplikation som på ett enkelt sätt visualiserar var det är tillåtet att parkera. Ett annat delsyfte är att undersöka vad bilförare kan om datumparkering och om en applikation kan hjälpa till att lokalisera platser där det är tillåtet att parkera.

Elever med varierad matematisk fo?rma?ga finner matematisk utmaning i olika sorters uppgifter. Fo?r att ge alla mo?jlighet att utmanas ha?nvisas eleverna ofta till enskild ra?kning i la?romedel, en undervisningsform som kraftigt har kritiserats bland annat fo?r att den ger litet utrymme fo?r interaktion eleverna emellan. Den ha?r studien redogo?r fo?r hur elever i heterogena elevgrupper lo?ser matematiska problem som a?r konstruerade fo?r att utmana alla gruppens elever, inklusive elever med sa?rskild matematisk fo?rma?ga.

In this thesis we have examined opinions of the social web in Scandinavian Library journals. Our interest lies in aspects about the social web, and above all about Library 2.0. The central question is how this new technology, a growing digitalization, and a social web that focuses on interactivity and participation affects opinions about libraries. We have investigated opinions about Library 2.0, with respect to three different dimensions: The role of the library in society, power/hierarchy and knowledge. The method used in this thesis is idea analysis using these dimensions as analytical instrument.

The purpose of this master´s thesis is to examine how the cultural exchange function of Swedish libraries may be perceived on their websites. A further intention is to examine how the library websites are used at the present. Two quantitative web-based surveys have been sent out to a great number of Swedish public libraries. The first survey was directed to the webmasters of the libraries, in order to review the different services offered by the Swedish library websites of today. The second survey was conducted with library directors, in order to visualise what services they consider ought to be present on their own library website.

The public libraries in Sweden has an obligation to serve all of its citizens, but despite of this they often fail to include their LGBTQ-patrons. Since the year of 2008 RFSL (the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights) have arranged a specially designed certification-process based on normcritical criterias that a chosen institution should fulfill to make their work more inclusive for LGBTQ-people. Sollentuna is the first municipal in Sweden to certificate all of their libraries. This study aims to examine what the certification have meant for the public library in Sollentuna and how a normcritical view can contribute to include LGBTQ-patrons at the library. As a method we used a qualitative interview-study to get a full picture of the certification-process and its influence on the public library of Sollentuna.

Syftet med denna underso?kning har varit att kartla?gga vilka delkonstruktioner av ko?n och sexualitet som elever i a?rskurs 7-9 har mo?tt i la?romedel i biologi, och mer specifikt de kapitel som handlar om sex och samlevnad. Vidare har studien syftat till att underso?ka hur dessa beskrivningar av konstruktioner av ko?n och sexualitet har fo?ra?ndrats historiskt, med start 1958 fo?r att avslutas a?r 2013.De fra?gesta?llningar underso?kningen haft fo?r avsikt att besvara a?r:? Hur har beskrivningarna av ko?n och sexualitet konstruerats i a?mnet sex och samlevnad?? Hur har beskrivningar av konstruktioner om ko?n och sexualitet fo?ra?ndrats mellan 1958 och 2013 i la?roböckerna?Med hja?lp av en kritisk diskursanalys, som utarbetats av Norman Fairclough, har de kapitel som handlar om sex och samlevnad i biologibo?cker fo?r grundskolans ho?gstadium studerats. Fo?r att analysera materialet har en genusteoretisk ansats inspirerad av queerteori anva?nts.

Fo?religgande studie redogo?r fo?r faktorer som pa?verkar elever i sina val av moderna spra?k i a?rskurs 6, da?r na?gra utav Pierre Bourdieus sociologiska begrepp om symboliskt kapital utgo?r en teoretisk ka?rna. Studien bygger pa? en enka?tunderso?kning da?r sammantaget 82 elever fra?n Tiundaskolan, Vaksalaskolan och Tunabergsskolan i Uppsala deltog. Resultaten ger indikationer pa? att elevernas sociala klasstillho?righet och ko?n i viss ma?n tycks pa?verka spra?kvalet, vilket blir tydligt i en klassanalys av de medverkande eleverna inom de olika spra?ken.

Bakgrund: Sk?rmtid hos barn har ?kat markant de senaste ?ren. Idag har b?de sp?dbarn och sm? barn tillg?ng till sk?rm och den anv?nds till s?v?l avledning, underh?llning och som avlastning till f?r?ldrar. Specialistsjuksk?terskan inom barnh?lsov?rden tr?ffar m?nga barn och f?r?ldrar och har genom sitt h?lsofr?mjande uppdrag m?jlighet att arbeta proaktivt och informera f?r?ldrar och ge kunskap om sk?rmtid.

The theme of this thesis is the professional ethics of public librarians. Qualitative interviews have been conducted with fourteen public librarians, with the aim to investigate their thoughts·and opinions concerning professional ethics and their experiences of ethical dilemmas in professional situations.The result shows that the majority of the librarians often discuss problems concerning what's right or wrong but that the discussions are conducted on the basis of practical situations and not in terms of professional ethics. The majority have vague ideas of how the term professional ethics should be applied on the work of public librarians, though all the interviewees consider the professional ethical discussion to be important.We examine the librarians opinions and experiences of ethical dilemmas conceming four subject areas: the principle of the librarian as a neutral and nonrestricting information intermediary, the principle of equal treatment of all the library visitors, difficulties. concerning media selection and the problems based upon the librarians flexibility towards the intemal rules of the library. The librarians experienced the behaviour towards the visitors as the greatest problem.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes towards the labour movement?s strategies, goals and organisational issues in Swedish Miners? Union?s (Gruvindustriarbetareförbundet, hereafter Gruv) paper, Gruvarbetaren 1917-1925.The theoretical starting point is Engels? view on the class state. This perspective turns the question of socialism and the way to get there into an issue of working class power over the state. Another theoretical perspective is the partition of the labour movement into a trade-unionistic branch, seeing unions as financial organisations of interest, and a pro-state one, considering unions as political organisations.During the period investigated Gruvarbetaren was quite radical and advocated a firm class struggle strategy towards employers. Since these were considered unreliable, class struggle was seen as the only way to better the conditions for the working class.

Syftena med denna uppsats har varit flera. Dels att genomföra en undersökande genrediskussion av svensk chick-lit i stort där det som uppfattats som den huvudsakliga kritiken av genren omformulerats till frågeställningar. Huvudfrågan har därmed varit att ta reda på om svensk chick-lit är intressant, men också om den har några litterära kvaliteter och om den är en feministisk backlash. I uppsatsen arbetas även en definition av svensk chick-lit fram, samt empiriskt grundad teori ur materialet. Avsikten är att detta arbete ska kunna verka som förebild för andra utredningar av nya och marginaliserade genrer.
