Abstract ? What is an exhibition hall? ? How do you create tension between art and nature? ? Why should an exhibition hall be situated in the country side; would that add to the experience? ? What are the conditions of exhibiting Contemporary art? These are some of the questions I first asked myself when I came to work with this project on an exhibition hall outside Kivik, Österlen. These questions brought me to new places, meetings and ideas. The team working actively to realize this project, calls it ?Art by the Sea?. The team has been working with the project since 2001 .

The aim of this thesis is to model my artistic practice on an adaptation of Joseph Campbells monomyth and, using this model, investigate challenges of performativity in art (in public spaces). The overall themes are personal, aesthetic and ethical sovereignty and an uncompromising search for a deepening of the artistic practice. More than anything else it is a map and a story of an artist?s expansion out into an artistic field that is little developed in Sweden. It is my hope that this thesis, by using a thoroughly subjective tone, will contribute to the milieu of performative arts in Sweden as well as widen the ?how? regarding the making of a written thesis..

The aim of this thesis is to assess the strategic importance of Central Asia as a whole and interests of great powers in the region in particular within the theoretical framework chosen. The work shows Central Asia as an area of the New Great Game, analogue of the original Great Game which was played out between the British Empire and Tsarist Russia in XIX century. The parallels between the original Great Game and the New Great Game are drawn in order to understand the scope and the true intentions of the players of the latter one. Also, the security issues in the Contemporary Central Asia are explored and analyzed to provide with the background for future predictions. Furthermore, the indirect purpose of the thesis is to examine whether the international system has changed from that of two centuries ago by comparing the structure of the international systems at the time of two Games.

The Middle Ages in Contemporary time ? Salve City; a reconstruction in the Between Land is an essay dealing with the reconstruction of medieval Kalmar. The Salve City is a melting pot of such diverse fields as archaeology, pedagogies, reconstruction, historical tourism, regional development policy et cetera. Den här uppsatsen skrevs för att belysa de hinder som kan uppstå när man som musiker tar sig an nutida musik, i detta fall japansk sådan. Den inriktning som arbetet tagit är hur man genom att förändra notbilden kan komma närmare musikens kärna, samt göra instuderingen så effektiv som möjligt under en relativt kort tid. För att nå de resultat jag gjort har jag använt mig av två informanter som arbetat med två stycken för solo flöjt av Kazuo Fukushima (1930), Mei (1962) och Shun?San (1969). Fallstudiens genomförande har tagit tre veckor där informanterna som är studenter har fått studera in båda verken och därefter notera om det ena av dem (Mei) för att se om de med denna metod kom närmare kärnan i musiken och kompositörens intention.

This master?s thesis discusses the term physical theatre from a discourse point of view. It also focuses on aspects of power from a field theory perspective. The main theory used is Pierre Bourdieu?s field theory, and I try to apply this onto critical discourse analysis, mainly taken from Michel Foucault.

This paper is about how the Contemporary discourses on the slut in various ways discuss sluttyness, and what consequences these discussions may be for those who see themselves as sluts. The study is based on five electronic interviews, conducted via instant messaging, with five people who consider themselves to be dealing with sluthood and that, according to their own definitions, identify themselves as sluts. My conclusion is that sluttyness, when given the opportunity to be discussed and problematized, visualizes power and normative systems between sluts. This means that sluttyness is more complex than only influenced by patriarchal oppression and hierarchy of femininity, as I show through an intersectional conscious analysis.  .

This thesis examines the relationship between the marginalization of ornamentation during functionalist modernism and the effect it had on female graphic design practice. By examining the historiography from a gender and feminist theory of history I present a different way of interpreting, not only the history of graphic design but also the concept of graphic design. The question of whether there is soft law in international law has been as much the subject of Contemporary debate as whether or not there is private legal authority in the international society. The legal boundaries seem to be blurred by the process of globalisation and the recent shift in international law. The traditional definition of international law has been outdated as new forms of treaties has introduced new subject of law to the judicial arena. At the same time a supplementary map of law has been added to the cartography of international law, soft law. These correlating processes have comprehensive political and legal consequences at both the international and national levels.

Förestående examensarbete syftar till att undersöka vad nycirkus kan tillföra skolämnet idrott och hälsa. Det är en studie i hur nycirkus där kan användas för att förankra intentionerna i läroplanen om att motverka traditionella könsmönster och stimulera elevers kreativitet. För att undersöka en grupp elevers erfarenheter av och uppfattningar om nycirkusundervisning har följande metoder använts: aktionsforskning, deltagande observationer och enkätundersökning samt fokusgruppsmöte. Följande frågeställningar undersöks: hur kan ett undervisningsförslag i nycirkus se ut och hur fungerar det i praktiken?, hur kan nycirkus användas för att utveckla elevers kreativitet, skapande och estetiska uttryck? och vad har flickor och pojkar för erfarenheter av och uppfattningar om genus utifrån deltagande i nycirkus som aktivitet i skolans undervisning i idrott och hälsa? Resultatet av den insamlade empirin analyseras och diskuteras utifrån teorier om genus, idrott och cirkusverksamhet.

In this qualitative thesis I have studied the process of street-naming in Budapest. I have done this primarily through examining legislative and street name records in Budapest in order to define a distinctive use of history. In an attempt to concretise public opinion, I designed and distributed a succinct questionnaire and used newspaper articles to create a clear view of the political milieu. Furthermore, I have utilised a typological method to summarise the use of history and elucidate the results. I came to the conclusion that a moral and, to some extent, ideological use of history is dominating the street-naming situation in Contemporary Budapest.

The first part of this essay focuses on how we relate to the landscape at the international and the national level today. The landscape convention is presented and compared to actual current Swedish policies. Different definitions of landscape are discussed. The second part renders the landscape in different archaeological contexts. The central theme is the attempt to investigate if and how we can approach prehistoric man by looking at the landscape as a socially constructed concept.

In this bachelor thesis an attempt is made to recreate the shoreline of Gotland during the Bronze Age. This has been done with the help of GIS to analyze remains dated to different periods of the Bronze Age that have been situated close to the coast. Case studies of three areas of the island have been made where dated remains together with typical Bronze Age remains like cairns and ship settings are analyzed with variables such as height over sea level and geological and topographical information. Contemporary datings from each case study have been compared to find a possible shoreline for both early and late Bronze Age. Two shorelines, one for the early Bronze Age and one for the late Bronze Age, have been created and tested on the three areas to see the placement of the remains in relation to these coastlines..

This paper explores a model for self-assessment of purchasing maturity in large companies. The author adapts Contemporary purchasing theory and further enhances existing tools and procedures to create a survey based instrument for maturity measurementThe paper also explores potential methodological challenges associated with conducting a more extensive study of purchasing maturity via the proposed model. A preliminary study is made and the learnings discussed.The preliminary findings of the survey indicate that the purchasing maturity varies with industry. The purchasing function average score was found to be 3,4 out of 6 with samples spread across the whole spectra ? agreeing with previous theories stating that the purchasing maturity is highly varied between different industries..

This essay examines how age, power and agency is represented and reproduced in Contemporary Swedish picture books.This is done through a combination of discourse analysis and literary analysis.It uses theoretical perspectives from sociology, and views childhood as a social construct. It sees discourse and language use as both representing and constructing social reality in the tradition of Norman Fairclough and critical discourse analysis. The main results is that the discourses of childhood in the material construct children as a separate group in society, and childhood as a special time in life.
