Partnering is a new and exciting way of cooperation in the Swedish Construction industry. In countries like Denmark and the United Kingdom the concept has been developed during a number of years while the Swedish Construction industry has been more reluctant.Partnering is seen by many as the solution to the problems that often occur in design and build contracts. Many others believe that it is a way for the big entrepreneurs to gain unfair advantage. Never the less the concept is fast getting more and more appreciation, especially in the region of Karlstad where many new buildings are built that way.We have focused on the new development of Carlstad Conference Center (CCC) which is currently built with a partnering concept. The main method that have been used in this thesis are interviews with personnel on different positions in the project.

The aim of this thesis is to explain how to be competitive in the Swedish boat industry. To be able to do so three areas are used to deepen as well as broaden the understanding. The three areas within competitiveness we have chosen to highlight are differentiation, individualization and distribution.

A lot of mine waste rock and tailings arise from all mining processes and have to be stored in an appropriate way. Tailings are deposited in impoundments retained by tailings dams. The objective of tailings dams is to retain the slurry from the mining process and in that way prevent spill into the surroundings that might be harmful for the environment. Tailings dams are often constructed as staged embankments so that construction costs and demand of materials are spread more evenly over the period of deposition.The objective of this thesis has been to compile information about and evaluate events at Swedish tailings dams and also to develop a collective database for all Swedish mining companies for all tailings dams and all events that occur at tailings dams.Information about 60 events at Swedish tailings dams has been gathered and evaluated. The evaluation has been performed by comparison between and analysis of individual parameters and also by use of a multivariate statistical method called PLS.

This paper examines constructions of identities in Swedish news paper articles concerning the European Unions?s Tobacco Products Directive. Using critical discourse analysis (CDA) supported by theories of discourse, semiotics and identity formation, this paper argues that constructions of a Swedish ?Us? are distinguished from a non-Swedish ?Them?. These constructions depends on categories such as use of tobacco, science, history and war, which are frequently used in the discourse to separate ?Us?, ?the good? from ?Them?, ?the bad?.

Is the new technology always the best? This final project tries to determine if BIM is the melody of today, or if traditional 2D drawing is recommended. Perhaps a compromise is necessary, utilizing both methods.In order to answer this question, different views from the industry have been retrieved through reports, producers of software and users. The approach has consisted in building a 3D model of the school Råslättsskolan, house 01, along with interviews with people involved in the building process.When working in 2D it is hard to include the third dimension, mistakes are done and collisions happen that must be corrected, in most cases at the construction site. BIM is an incredible help since the model allows you to detect collisions and correct them.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka om en geografiskt begränsad marknad inom byggbranschen underlättar en implementering av Lean Construction. För att undersöka detta har jag utgått från två forskningsfrågor: vilken inställning de tillfrågade byggföretagen har till Lean Construction och hur de arbetar utifrån ett Lean-perspektiv? Utifrån ett antal grundprinciper från Lean Construction formades en enkät för datainsamling. Resultaten från undersökningen visade att respondenterna som bestod av platschefer/arbetsledare och underentreprenörer överlag tyckte att de områden som tagits upp var viktiga för en lyckad byggprocess och en stor del av respondenterna även arbetade utifrån ett Lean-perspektiv. Enkätundersökningen tog upp nio områden: samarbete, Visible Planning med detaljerade veckoplaner, Just-In-Time, slöseri, standardisering, Kaizen, innovationer, Last Planner med arbetsplanering och Percent Plan Complete från Last Planner konceptet.
