Män vi då? En studie om mäns tankar kring familj, faderskap och om risken att bli exkluderade när det blir allt vanligare för ensamstående kvinnor att välja insemination

Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie var att ta reda på mer om mäns tankar kring att det i Sverige idag är fler och fler kvinnor som väljer att skaffa barn på egen hand via insemination. För att undersöka detta har jag använt mig av fyra frågeställningar:Hur ser män på familjebildande och föräldraskap? Upplever män idag att det finns en risk för dem att bli exkluderade från familjebildande och faderskap? Upplever män att de inte har samma rätt till valmöjlighet som kvinnor har? Varför tror män att kvinnor gör detta val och att det blir allt vanligare?För att ta reda på detta har jag använt mig av enskilda intervjuer. Jag har intervjuat fem män utan barn i åldrarna 25-35 år. Intervjuerna har sedan analyserats kvalitativt men med en hermeneutisk ansats, där jag redovisar resultat och analyser direkt under respektive frågeställning.

This EEF-project is a part of a larger project at SLU, Division of Reproduction, Dept of Clinical Science, with the intention of developing and evaluating new methods for the assessment of stallion semen quality. Over the last 10 years there has been an increase in the use of Artificial insemination with cooled semen in Swedish horse breeding. At the same time, foaling rates have decreased. This has lead to a need for new and better methods of assessing the quality of stallion semen. This EEF-project was based on an objective method to calculate motility, with QualispermTM, in fresh and cooled stallion semen, and after selection. Today sperm motility evaluation is mainly done subjectively by visual assessment with a light microscope, and the correlation between these motility results and fertility have varied.

"The Machine Made Me Do It!" : An Exploration of Ascribing Agency and Responsibility to Decision Support Systems

Are agency and responsibility solely ascribable to humans? The advent of artificial intelligence (AI), including the development of so-called ?affective computing,? appears to be chipping away at the traditional building blocks of moral agency and responsibility. Spurred by the realization that fully autonomous, self-aware, even rational and emotionally-intelligent computer systems may emerge in the future, professionals in engineering and computer science have historically been the most vocal to warn of the ways in which such systems may alter our understanding of computer ethics. Despite the increasing attention of many philosophers and ethicists to the development of AI, there continues to exist a fair amount of conceptual muddiness on the conditions for assigning agency and responsibility to such systems, from both an ethical and a legal perspective. Moral and legal philosophies may overlap to a high degree, but are neither interchangeable nor identical.

Studie i exteriör belysning : med tillämpning på Bokenäs, Volvos fritids- och konferensby

When creating a good lighting design it is crucial to know how different types of lamps work. Knowing what kind of light they emit and in which situations they work well is also very important. In this master thesis I present different types of lamps and give an account of how light is spread through the different shapes of luminaires, reflectors, filters and so on. I write about how our eyes register radiation and connections between lighting and how it makes us experience space. Furthermore I deal with the effect of artificial light on living organisms and the environment. After the theoretical studies I deal with the places I have visited to study how different lamps and luminaires work and look like in existing lighting designs. These visits have also been inspirational to my lighting proposal for Bokenäs. Bokenäs is Volvo?s resort and conference center which is situated on the Swedish west coast.

I have in my thesis produced a start of a multiplayer, voxel, strategy sandbox game withadvanced AI. The world is made out of voxels in the form of blocks that both the players andother units can affect and change. In a world where every block follows the laws of physicsfor both fluids and physics. The game is designed for several players that fights for controllover land and resources..

Light pollution : consequences and sustainable lighting design

Light has always fascinated humans but ever since the invention of the first light bulb, the use of artificial lighting has accelerated dramatically. Darkness has never been as rare as today and the overuse of lighting has created a new phenomenon called light pollution. Most living beings are biologically dependent on the recurrent twenty-four-hour rhythm of light and darkness, called the circadian cycle. Human beings are evolutionary developed after this circadian rhythm and the effects of constant artificial light is yet unknown. Scientists fear the consequences of constant lighting and what it means physically, mentally and philosophically for the human species.

Effects of ten year old enrichment plantings in a secondary dipterocarp rainforest : a case study of stem and species distribution in Sabah, Malaysia

Large areas of forests in the tropical region have during the last decades been lost and converted to new land uses while other areas have been degraded into secondary forests. These secondary forests need to be restored and rehabilitation through enrichment planting and liberation may help to speed up the recovery process. The objective of this thesis was to evaluate a rehabilitation method that includes enrichment planting, slashing of weeds and girdling of unwanted trees. The site for the project is situated in Sabah, Borneo in a secondary forest which had been logged and burnt by a wildfire. The project?s goal is to rehabilitate and increase biodiversity through enrichment planting of seedlings mainly belonging to the family Dipterocarpeaceae (dipterocarps).

Frivilligt ensamstående mödrars upplevelser av föräldraskapet

Introduktion: Det finns idag möjlighet för kvinnor att välja enskilt föräldraskap genom assisterad befruktning. Det är inte tillåtet i Sverige men kvinnorna söker sig till andra länder för att få hjälp. Föreningen femmis- frivilligt ensamstående mödrar med insemination/IVF har ett stadigt ökande antal medlemmar. Det finns få tidigare studier som undersöker kvinnornas upplevelser av föräldraskapet och för BVC-sköterskan som skall utforma föräldrastöd behövs en ökad förståelse och kunskap om kvinnornas upplevelser. Syfte: Syftet var att undersöka frivilligt ensamstående mödrars upplevelser av föräldraskapet då kvinnan valt enskilt föräldraskap genom assisterad befruktning.

Pilotstudie för hur framtidens avel för islandshästar i Sverige ser ut - ur seminstationens, hingstägarens och stoägarens perspektiv

Slutsatsen av denna studie är att hingstar på artificiell insemination inte verkar har sämre dräktighetsprocent än hingstar på naturlig betäckning. En annan slutsats som kan dras är att det inte är på grund av skillnader i betäckningsresultat som AI inte används mer utan handlar mer om andra aspekter. Uppfödare är eniga om att inseminering är en dyrare process än naturlig betäckning och det är mer pappersarbete. Seminstationerna menar mer att traditionen talar för sig själv och att uppfödarna hellre använder naturlig betäckning då man anser att hästarna ska få bete sig naturligt. Seminanvändningen bör öka mer då avelsdjuren ständigt ökar i värde och man blir mer rädd om sitt avelsmaterial..

In this project, an area in the small town Tungelsta south of Stockholm, is in focus. Tungelsta is placed in the municipality of Haninge and it is for the planning department on the municipality, this project is made. The task is to compose an arrengement of buildings and open spaces for a 50 hektar area. Today the area is consists of agriculture fields and forests. The area is placed near the railway station, in the city centre of Tungelsta, which makes it interesting and important to work with. There are different opinions about the future plans for the area.

Seroprevalence and risk factors for bovine brucellosis, salmonellosis and bovine viral diarrhea in urban and peri-urban areas of Kampala, Uganda

Africa is expected to go through a rapid urbanization over the next four decades and the demand for food is increasing in the rapidly growing urban and peri-urban (UPU) areas. Keeping livestock in urban areas is in particular associated with health hazards. This is due to close interaction between humans and animals, and it has been shown that zoonotic diseases are increasing in urban areas. The benefits of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) are related to improved food security, in particular among low-income groups. Apart from the negative public health impact of zoonotic diseases, animal disease could have a devastating impact on the economy and food security of many households in these areas. In the present study, three important endemic diseases, including brucellosis, salmonellosis and Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), were analyzed in regard to seroprevalence and risk factors.

Today 70 percent of the world's sand beaches are under recession due to erosion. The global warming may have the effect upon the sea level increasing and the erosion increasing on the sand beaches. To save these sand beaches, the erosion must be prevented. Coast erosion shelters like gabions and sea walls are functioning extremely well to protect the land behind the sand beach, but due to the wave reflections, created in front of these so called hard erosion shelters, the erosion of the front beach is accelerated. During the last decades, artificial sand supply (beach nourishment) has been the adopted praxis.

Artificiell insemination (AI) har revolutionerat reproduktionen och husdjursaveln sedan den första inseminationen gjordes 1784. När man 1949 upptäckte att spermier kunde överleva djupfrysning och upptining underlättades AI-arbetet ytterligare. Ett lyckat resultat vid användningen av AI bygger på att alla delar i den kedja av händelser fungerar från samling av sperma till insemination. En kritisk länk i kedjan är själva handhavandet av sperman vid upptining och laddning av payetten i pistoletten i samband med inseminationen. Hur upptiningsprotokollet ser ut varierar dock mellan olika länder och instruktionerna saknar ofta vetenskapliga referenser.

Spermaadhesiner i olika fraktioner av hingstsperma :

Breeding-induced endometritis in horses seems to be down-regulated by certain components in the seminal plasma. These components are most likely some of the proteins in the seminal plasma in the stallion ejaculate, the so-called spermadhesins. This study aimed to recognize these proteins and determine their quantities in different fractions of the ejaculate. Fractionated ejaculates from four stallions were used to determine the presence and amount of proteins by way of size-excluding chromatography. All former known proteins, except two, were recognized in this study.
