This bachelor thesis deal with the Soviet submarine U-137 and it's grounding inthe Swedish archipelago outside the city of Karlskrona and one of Sweden?slargest naval-bases. The actions that took place in October 1981 were specialbecause of the clear violation of Swedish territory. When the Swedish authoritieslater suspect nuclear armament onboard the crisis gets worse. In the thesis wehave examined the Swedish politicians and military and their behaviour duringthe crisis. Our goal with the thesis is to try to explain why a certain decision wasmade and what the alternatives were. We have chosen five decisions that we findinteresting because they determined much of the outcome of the crisis. To try andexplain these different decisions we have chosen two theories from Allison &Zelikow's book ?Essence of Decision? (1999). These two theories are ?TheRational Actor Model? and the ?Governmental Politics Model?. We?re going touse these theories and apply them to the five decisions we chosen to analyse.
