Homelessness has always been and will always be a problem in every society. How should we organize the work and care for these people? There are three different types of welfare states, the liberal, the conservative and the social democratic. In the liberal welfare state the market is the supplier of the public good. In the conservative state the family and church and in the social democratic the state is the supplier of the public welfare.The Swedish welfare state has been the archetype of social democratic welfare with de principal of ?Folkhemmet? in focus. In this type of welfare the state has been the caretaker of all social services. The Folkhems- principal took care of homeless people by giving them emergency treatment for there situation like short contract on apartments. But still there were many people seeking help in the charity sector.Stockholms Stadsmission was founded in 1853 and has developed during time. Today their role is very important and path breaking in the work and supply of social security and service for homeless people in Stockholm.They have managed to connect the state, the market and the charity sector in a successful way.
