Skolsköterskors erfarenheter av att samtala med barn om våld i hemmet- med stöd av hälsoenkät


Thirteen percent of the Swedish children declare that they have been beaten by their parents or other adults. While interviewing these children it has been discovered that they want adults to talk to them more about the violence they have experienced. Through intense research the understanding of the importance of asking patients about violence has deepened, during the last years and this year a new Swedish law has been instituted about the matter. The Swedish school nurses work shall be health promoting and preventive, due to the Swedish law about schooling. In this work the school nurses have an institutionalized task in performing health consultations with every one of the Swedish children. In most of these consultations a health survey is used.The aim of this study is to describe and clarify school nurses experiences of having a dialog with children about domestic violence, using a health survey as a support. Data will be gathered by interviewing school nurses working in the nine- year compulsory school in the Gothenburg region and content analysis will be used to deepen our knowledge. This inquiry provides foundation for a full range study and the method has hereby been tested in a pilot. The result of the pilot is; to ask about domestic violence using a health survey as a support, did surprisingly not work out well. Instead the school nurses tried to overcome obstacles and take advantage of possibilities in the dialogs with children about domestic violence. While doing this, they constantly balanced their vigilance towards their prudence with the best of the children and children?s health in focus. This study was initiated by the aim of obtaining concrete tools to be used in the dialogs about domestic violence. Instead the result turned out to address the topic; person centered care.
