AimThe purpose with this work is to examen the conditions in Sweden, for beinge a girl and exercise a sport as icehockey. Icehockey seems to be a sport for men and were it still has deep manly traditions and norms.MethodThe method I have used in this work is to do a questionnaire. I decided to send my questionnaire to 20 girl/womens icehockey team in Sweden. Outside from the questionnaire I took parallels from gender research and in sport history, to be able to answer the aim of the study.ResultsThe average age of the girles playing icehockey is 21 years and the everage years of playing icehockey is 7 years. Of 158 girls 149 said that they are not getting any financial suport from there home club. Most of the girls are not seeing the economy as a problem to continue playing icehockey. The most ordinary way to get in touch with girl/womens icehockey is through a girl friend. Almost half of the girls (52%) feel that their home club suports them well. 40% of the girls feel that the Swedish association view on girl/womens icehockey is good and 28% felt that it was less good. 39% of the girls feel that the invest from the Swedish icehockey association is good, but 32% feel that it`s less good. The uneven quality on the players is the thing that the girls feel is the most negative. Most of the girls that participeting in the study would like to change two things, and that is to get better/more icetime for training in their home club and that there should be a Swedish junior nationalteam for girls.ConclutionsThere are still many things to work with in girl- and womens/ icehockey in Sweden, both at the Swedish association level and at the girls/womens home icehockey clubs. Another thing that we also have to work with, is the peoples view at girls who want`s to play icehockey.The development of girl/women icehockey are going forward but in small steps. More girls than ever choose to play icehockey. The economy is underdeveloped in girl- and womens icehockey and many individual players have to pay from their own pocket.
