Berättandeförmåga hos svenska barn i en flerspråkig miljö från förskoleålder till årskurs 2

The present study investigated free narratives in 72 children between 3;11 and 9;0 years. Participants were recruited from a multilingual environment in eastern Gothenburg. The children were instructed to make up their own stories after being provided with openings, ?Story stems?. The stories were then transcribed and analyzed on micro- and macro level and narrative evaluation. Most of the children produced stories, which could be analyzed. The older children produced longer and more complete stories than the younger children. No significant differences were found with regard to the number of subordinate clauses. Correlations between micro- and macrostructure level and narrative evaluation were found. The method of elicitation appears to provide the speech language pathologist with valuable information and to be easy to use. The method for analysis needs practice but can thereafter be used quickly. Future studies with the same design but with other participant groups could possibly generate an assessment material for free narratives.
