Elevers upplevelser av elevinflytandets betydelse för deras motivation i skolarbetet

AbstraktHaving influence over questions that concern us is a part of the society that we live in, where every individual have the right to make her voice heard (Danell, 2006). For many decades, the school has had many different ways to give the students influence. Rönnlund (2013) is giving a historical overview of the history of students influence and enlighten us how the influence has changed over time. The influence from the students is very important and it is the students right to make their voices heard about things that concerns their work environment but also to affect their curriculum. The education in school should be fitted to every individual student (Danell, 2006).   According to Aaron Antonovsky (2007) our wellbeing is based on that we all can take part and deicide about the things we are meant to do. If we can do that we will have a greater opportunity to see ourselves involved and see a meaning why we have to do certain things and what the winning will be by doing it. By practice influence the students increase the conditions to succeed and when the students can affect the education it will create an interest with them to keep on practice influence in other context. Another factor in school that affects the students is motivation. According to Jenner (2004) the motivation is controlled by many different individual factors but also the social context she lives in. Motivation is being created in a dialogue between two human beings, which in school is often between a teacher and a student. Jenner (2004) write about the importance of the teacher what responsibility she has to motivate the student. This is a qualitative study which means to show the students comprehension about influence in school. Do they have any influence over their education? Can they affect the lessons they take part of? These are some questions that I tend to find some answers about. This study is based on interviews with seven students that studies music their last year on a senior high school. The results of the interviews show that the students do think that they have influence over their education. Most of the students do want some more influence while a few of them are happy the way it is. The students think that influence is a good and positive thing and it gives them opportunity to decide what they will learn. According to the students it is important for their motivation when they are able to use their influence and it develops them even more in their school work when they can do things that they think it?s fun to do. This study also shows that the students think that the influence contributes to the coherence in the class. When they are allowed to use their influence it usually leads to sense of coherence where the whole class takes joint decisions.
