The purpose of this Masters thesis is to investigate what attributes were used in Story-time activities, why attributes were used in Story-time activities and what functions they have. The study is based on qualitative methods in the form of a literature studies, observations and interviews. The interviews were undertaken with two Storytellers from the same public library. The Story-time activities were adapted for children from three to six years of age. The study suggested that there was a connection between Story-time activities and a social and cultural perspective.

This masters thesis takes the providers perspective on public library Story times for children. The main questions are: What perspectives can the providers have? How does the perspective affect the content and how is the Story time drawn up? Five Story time providers were interviewed about the purpose of their Story times, the methods they used and the content they chose. A model with four criteria was used to analyze the result of the interviews. The criteria were: adult criteria, consideration of the childrens view, pedagogical criteria and literary/Story time criteria.

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to investigate the reasons for public libraries to have Story-time today and also the reasons for Story-time at the public library historically in Sweden. Why is the phenomenon of Story-time still existing at public libraries today? The study is based on a questionnaire that was sent to childrens librarians in the Västra Götaland region. The material collected in this questionnaire was put together and resulted in six different categories showing the libraries purposes and thoughts of their Story-time activities. The categories were: cultural heritage/tradition, joy of reading, language and imagination, library visits, Storytelling and mutual experience.

The subject of this thesis is the position of the Story or activity rooms at the main libraries in Skåne, a province in the south of Sweden. The questions that are asked and answered are: Which of the main libraries has a Story room? What do the rooms look like? How are the rooms used? Resent research has shown a correlation between oral Story retelling and picture arrangement among children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The present study analyzes if this correlation exists among a convenience sample of children from the general population. 77 children between 3:11 and 9:0 years old accomplished Bus Story Test and a picture arrangement task from WISC III. Significant correlations was found between picture arrangement and Bus Story Test?s subscores sentence length, subordinate clauses and information.
