Bistånd och korruption : Hur hanteras korrupta regimer av biståndsgivare?

Bachelor essay in political science by Linus Johansson, fall of 2006?Aid and corruption: How do aid Donors handle the corrupt regimes??.Supervisor: Jan Olsson. The purpose of this essay is to describe the aid relation between Donors and corruptgovernments, to find out whether Donors reckon on the problems with implementation of aidto corrupt governments when they decree their aid policy. There are a lot of different ways toimplement the economic aid that are being used by the Donors today, and this essay will try toexemplify the different methods of implementing the economic aid. To elucidate the relationbetween Donors and corrupt regimes, the essay analyzes three themes: the first two questionsare about the policies used by the Donors, and the third question are used to shed light on theactual implementation of aid to corrupt governments. The three themes are: i) Different aidpolicies used by the Donors ii) Do Donors use particular policies against corrupt regimes? iii)Do corrupt regimes receive less foreign aid? This study stresses the fact that Donors do notact like a group unit in the matter of development assistance policy, instead they act inseveral separate groups, this may complicate the endeavour of making economic aid effective. The conclusion of the essay is that corrupt governments are treated the same way that lesscorruptedgovernment are, nothing today indicates that Donors would give less economic aidto the corrupt regimes.

Konditionalitet, effektivitet och legitimitet. En normativ studie av politisk konditionalitet.

Since the end of the Cold War, foreign aid Donors have been using political conditionality to promote human rights, democracy and good governance in recipient countries. This phenomenon has been analyzed and criticized, but mainly from a strictly empirical point of view. In this paper, the legitimacy of political conditionality is analyzed through a normative perspective based on the extrinsic value of efficiency. If the political conditions don?t result in a democratic development, including respect of human rights and good governance, they can not be justified. With at theoretical focus on the Donors, based on the unequal relationship between donor and recipient, I am examining the Donors? possibility and supposed will to use political conditions in development cooperation.

Kvinnors och mäns motiv och ambivalens till att donera ägg och spermier i Sverige

Involuntary childlessness is a big problem around the world. One way to solve the problem is to receive oocytes or semen from a donor. In Sweden, semen donation has been regulated by law since 1985 and oocyte donation since 2003. The aim of this study was to investigate what motivations women and men in Sweden have to donate gametes, if they feel any ambivalence to donate, and to compare if there is any difference in motivation and ambivalence between women and men. Motivation was measured with eight statements based on previous results and clinical experience.

Bilden av den kvinnliga stiftaren : en jämförande studie mellan 1100- och 1400-talets kvinnliga stiftarbilder på skånska kalkmålningar

In this study I compare the donor portraits on wallpaintings in Scanian churches from the 12th and the 15th century and relate them to medieval society.I find that women were equally capable of owning and donating land during the entire period. The image of the ideal woman changed during the 14th century from a married woman to the unreachable mistress of the chivalrous culture and the holy virgin. Women had a natural place beside their husbands in 12th century donor portraits, while single male Donors are more frequent in the 15th century. While 12th century Donors were supposed to show their position in society by offering plentiful donations directly to God, Donors in the 14th century instead strived to present themselves as humble and pious. The individualisation of late medieval society meant that people had to depend on themselves to achieve salvation..

Church of Sweden Aid says that they don?t work with the donor?s motives.

En utmanad världsordning- En analys av nya och traditionella biståndsgivares idéer och intressen i det internationella utvecklingssamarbetet

In the past years the traditional Donors of development assistance have been increasingly aware of changes in the donor landscape. This as emerging economies like China and India has undergone a transition from recieving aid to becoming emerging Donors. By identifying and comparing ideas, beliefs and interests pursued using foreign aid between so called emerging and traditional Donors, the greater purpose of this thesis is to take a closer look at the alleged changes in the world order. The starting point is Goldstein & Keohanes framework of the impact of ideas and interests in foreign policy and the one of K.J Holsti about institutions as markers metrics of change. The results show that there is no vast difference in interests but a detectable difference in the ideas behind foreign aid.

Tanzania is today one of the greatest aid recipients in the world, but still - after over 45 years of huge amounts of aid - one of the poorest and least developed countries. How can that be? Evaluation of a new microarray method for genotyping of HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 for investigation of celiac disease

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease, induced by an immune mediated reaction in the small intestine after ingestion of gluten and related prolamines. There is a strong genetic linkage and most important are the genes that encodes for HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8. The European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) has developed new guidelines for investigation of CD in children and adolescents, which include genotyping for HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8. Therefore, the clinical microbiological laboratory in Västmanland wants to introduce a method for analysis of these genes. Microarray is a newly developed method for determination of the alleles HLA-DQA1 and HLA-DQB1 that encodes for the ?- and ?-subunits of the HLA-molecules.

The change of haemoglobin during blood donation, and an assessment of a photometrical method for non-invasive haemoglobin analysis

In Sweden, lowest acceptable haemoglobin levels in blood donators are 125g/L for women and 135g/L for men for a test sample taken in the beginning of the blood donation. Levels, which are 10g/L lower, are accepted if the sample is taken after the blood donation. Earlier studies show that the haemoglobin level decreases for a person that is lying down. The two aims of this study were to examine how much the haemoglobin levels change during blood donation and to examine if the photometrical instrument Pronto-7TM shows equivalent results to that of the established method Cell-Dyn Sapphire. In the study, 120 blood Donors participated. Blood samples were taken in the beginning and in the end of the donation. Analyses by Pronto-7TM were done before and after the donation. The haemoglobin level decreased significantly during the blood donation.
