This essay sets out to compare political participation in two e-petition systems: The Malmö initiative in Malmö, Sweden, and Better Reykjavik in Reykjavik, Iceland. The main question of the essay concerns the aggregative and deliberative qualities of the Malmö initiative and Better Reykjavik, as well as the relationship between aggregation and Deliberation. This main question is divided into four subqueries that lead the empirical analysis. These are: (1) Which similarities and differences in terms of design are there between the Malmö initiative and Better Reykjavik? (2) To what extent have these systems mobilized an aggregative political participation? (3) What similarities and differences are there concerning aspects of Deliberation? and (4) What is the correlation between aggregation and Deliberation like in the two e-petition systems?The method in use is a comparative cross-sectional study with a 'most similar research design'.

This study investigates the potential of a rhetorical theory of knowledge to expand beyond its own domain and into political theory, specifically theories of deliberative democracy. Despite the increasing interest in communication in democratic theory in the last decades, the majority of theorists have not turned their interest towards rhetorical science. On the contrary, theorists often regard rhetoric as dangerous and incompatible with the deliberative ideal of reason. The aim of this study is therefore to defend rhetorical science by investigating how the rhetorical theory of knowledge ? as it is presented by Chaïm Perelman and Oldbrecht Tyteca, and further developed by Mats Rosengren and Maria Wolrath Söderberg ? can contribute to the understanding of deliberative democracy.

My aim with this diploma work is to find out if the students consider development Deliberations as a good forum in order to promote their knowledge development or not. I have also examined if the development Deliberation is experienced as giving for the pupil or not, what I have been studying from the pupil's perspectives.MethodI have implemented three qualitative interviews with three students from class nine in a compulsory education that lies in Botkyrka municipality. There, I have also an implemented questionnaire survey with two half classes from same class.Materials To my study I have linked literature where research aims himself in on how teachers have worked with development Deliberations in the school.Results Students that I have interviewed does consider development Deliberations as a knowledgep romoting forum, but most as a forum for clear about study results. The students in the survey consider development Deliberations as giving only when the result turns out to bee good.Importance for teachers As each development Deliberation is unique, you can not come to a certain implication that all Deliberations are experienced in the same way as the result shows. But that can last stakeholder for the teacher is to see how one development Deliberation can to be experienced of several students.

SammanfattningSyftet med uppsatsen var att utifrån en utredning av vad begreppen Deliberation och demokrati kan betyda i ett skolperspektiv undersöka vilka öppningar, efterfråganden och eventuella hinder för användningen av Deliberation i undervisningen som kunde finnas i grundskolans styrdokument. Frågorna som låg till grund för att besvara syftet rörde vad Deliberation och demokrati kan betyda i en utbildningssituation, vad begreppen har med varandra att göra och om man kan spåra innehållet i begreppen i grundskolans styrdokument. Det material som undersökts var litteratur som berör de begrepp uppsatsen uppehåller sig kring, samt skollagen, läroplanen för det obligatoriska skolväsendet (Lpo 94) och svenskämnets kursplan för grundskolan. Texterna tolkades utifrån det sociokulturella perspektivet med fokusering på begreppen Deliberation och demokrati, och det fördjupade innehåll begreppen får då man ser dem i ett skolperspektiv.Deliberation och demokrati har en gemensam historia som sträcker sig tillbaka till antiken. Man kan se Deliberationen som ett demokratiskt redskap.

This thesis examines the conditions for participation in the decision making process of a possible mine establishment in Storuman municipality in the north of Sweden. This is done through a case study where the main actors are the mining company Nickel Mountain AB, the municipality Storuman and the Sami village Vapsten. As a theoretical framework Cecilia Eriksson?s division of democratic theories is used as a starting point. Methods as described in deliberative democratic theory, such as discussion by effected community members, are seen as a method within the participatory democratic tradition, not a theory of its own.

In 2003 the parties in Sweden were invited to debate reforms of the Constitution. The purpose of this essay is to study the debate concerning reforms of the Constitution and identify values expressed by the parties. Moreover the goal of the essay is to connect the identified values to the three democratic ideals, which are; electoral democracy, participation democracy and Deliberation democracy. This analyze is based on the idea analyze.The conclusion is that all parties have argued that the Swedish Constitution should be based on the democratic ideal of electoral democracy. To fulfill the purpose I?ve used three minor questions which are; a) which actors participate in the public Deliberation about Kristianstad Arena, b) Which are the arguments emerge, c) Which clear differences in the arguments is there between the actors? To find my answers I?ve examined the local paper during a period of four months.

Grundtanken i deliberativ demokrati är att politiska beslut skall grundas på en fri och förnuftig Deliberation mellan fria och jämlika medborgare. Målet med denna Deliberation är att nå en rationell konsensus, och kräver att deltagarna sätter sina personliga intressen, värderingar och perspektiv åt sidan, samt fokuserar på det allmänna bästa. Frågorna som tas upp är huruvida globaliseringsrörelsen bör organisera sig i partier eller agera utomparlamentariskt i sociala rörelser och om Deliberation är ett effektivt påverkansmedel för att förändra de institutioner de vänder sig emot. The study aims to investigate student participation as a tool for democratic development in secondary school from a student perspective. Furthermore, students' perceptions of the school's work with student participation in formal and informal contexts are also investigated, with basis in the teaching structure. The results are based on interviews conducted with students who all attend the same class in their last year of high school. Subsequently, an analysis is made based mainly on three different theories: democracy, curricula and sociocultural theory. The result shows that students feel that they are able to practice student participation but the amount of influence they get differs between individuals depending on devotion and commitment.

Deliberative politics offers a new and exiting way of overcoming the problems that the western democracy of today is facing. A lot of research in the most recent years have had the goal to replace the representative democracy with a decision-making frame built on decentralization and Deliberation. The goal for this essay is to create a framework for local decision-making, based on deliberativ norms, that could work as a complement to the representative democracy instead of replacing it.During the recent years the so-called "brukarråd"; councils for the most common users of one special public service, has been a new way for the local government to get in direct contact with those who are most affected by changes and developments in the specific area of the public administration. In this essay I argue for that these councils should be designed so that they could house deliberative processes.After creating a model for the possible way of designing the "brukarråd" I compare the framework with the system that exists today. A majority of conducted studies connected to democratic socialization and the party-political education has primary affected students in higher education. In this study I intend to find out how primary school teachers handle controversial issues in social science connected to the political parties.  The Swedish Democrats are by many perceived as a controversial party and while the school?s mission is to educate students to think independently another mission implies that certain views are not to be uttered if they stand contrary to the basic democratic values. The aim of this study is to obtain knowledge in and about the teachers view on the dilemma between the more nurturing assignment versus the knowledge assignment and in connection to this how they approach the Swedish Democrats in the classroom. For further immersion the research treats the following questions:  How do teachers view their own role as intermediaries in democratic education?  How to teachers portray the Swedish democrats in education?The survey was conducted by using qualitative interviews.

Den svenska rovdjurspolitiken har präglats av starka intressekonflikter och riksdagsbeslutets verkställande från 2001 (att behålla eller återställa rovdjurens gynnsamma bevarandestatus) har visats sig problematisk. Rovdjurspolitiken och dess implementering har lidit av bristande legitimitet och effektivitet. Syftet med de nya viltförvaltningsdelegationerna har varit att förbättra förvaltningen i rovdjurspolitiken genom att inkludera olika intressen i förvaltningsarbetet. Det bakomliggande och långsiktiga målet för de nya viltförvaltnings-delegationerna är att utöka acceptansen för rovdjuren bland befolkningen genom regionalt ansvarstagande och lokalt inflytande.Viltförvaltningsdelegationerna är ett nytt inslag i den svenska vilt- och rovdjurspolitiken. Den har tydlig karaktär av det som i statsvetenskapliga sammanhang ofta kallas för governance.

Gruppolarisering innebär att bl.a. social jämförelse leder till att isolerade grupper med likasinnade genererar mer extrema åsikter. Gruppolarisering på internet kan vara ett oroväckande fenomen för den deliberativa demokratin. Istället för att människor med konkurrerande ståndpunkter utbyter idéer och tankar med varandra samlas de i isolerade diskussionsforum på internet där social jämförelse i värsta fall kan utmynna i hattal och terrorism. Med netnografisk metod studeras här politiska diskussioner online i två olika typer av forum, ett politiskt och ett icke politiskt.

SammanfattningDenna uppsats undersöker Deliberation i en zambisk kontext. Syftet är att undersöka hur zambiska lärare och elever ser på förekomsten av deliberativa samtal som undervisningsform, samt utröna om det finns några skillnader och likheter i denna syn mellan olika skolformer i Zambia. Undersökningen har genomförts på tre olika skolor i Zambia som var och en representerar de dominerande skolformerna: statlig skola, privat skola samt ideell skola, i fortsättningen kallat Community School. Vi valde att förlägga vår studie till ett land som skiljer sig från Sverige i både ekonomiskt och kulturellt avseende för att få en fördjupad förståelse och en nyanserad bild av den pedagogiska verksamheten i olika kulturer. För att besvara våra forskningsfrågor genomfördes 12 intervjuer, 2 elevintervjuer och 2 lärarintervjuer på tre olika skolor.
