Gymnasieelevers intresse för tecknade serier

This master's thesis deals with the interest in Comics among students at the social science programme in an upper secondary school. The history of Comics and the reading habits of Comics have also been examined. For the completion of this study 54 students, 19 boys and 35 girls, took part in a questionnaire. The results of this statistical survey shows that the department of Comics at Malmö city public library plays an insignificant role concerning the interest and reading of Comics for the students. The main readings of Comics for the students are in the daily paper, which resembles reading habits of adults.

Sekvenskonst eller skräp? Bibliotekariers inställning till tecknade serier för vuxna på Malmös och Lunds stadsbibliotek.

The purpose of the following thesis has been to study librarians' attitudes towards Comics for grown up people. I have compared the attitudes among the staff in two public libraries in Sweden, Malmö public library and Lund public library. I have conducted five interviews with librarians and observed how the Comics are handled in each library. I have also carried out a literary study of the history and theories of Comics. Initially a definition of Comics is presented, and then an overview of the development of Comics and of some theories regarding them is offered.

Seriemediet i bibliotekspressen 1960-1999

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to study how the Comics have been evaluated and debated in the Swedish library press from 1960 to 1999. Have they been seen as something good or something bad? What arguments have been put forward against them or in their defense? What kinds of development can be seen over time? The point of doing this, is of course that evaluation always plays a crucial part in library work. By studying how a "new" medium or art form has been evaluated in the past, we can hopefully gain a greater understanding of how today?s newcomers should best be treated.

?Den är för tjejer och den för killar? ? en studie av åtta 12-åriga pojkars och flickors serieläsning

The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of eight 12-year old boys and girls about two Comics; Sabrina ? tonårshäxan (Sabrina ? teenage witch) and Spiderman. Do children see gender differences in the two Comics? Do boys and girls identify with the heroes in the Comics and does this affect the children's own gender socialisation. We interviewed four boys and four girls from different parts of Sweden.

Synen på serier ? en studie av folkbibliotekariers syn på serier och deras hantering på biblioteket.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the attitude towardsComics among librarians as well as their personal image ofthe overall attitude towards Comics among librarians and themanner in which the attitude of the librarians affects how theComics are treated in the library.I have performed this study with a qualitative approach andhave interviewed a total of five librarians working in twodifferent libraries.I have founded the theoretical base for my research in anumber of historical attitudes towards Comics and thencompared these attitudes towards the answers given in theinterviews as well as prior research found in three theseswritten by Magnus Johansson, Sarah Johansson and KarinEsaiasson. The results of the study is that traces of most of thehistorical attitudes can be found among all of the interviewedlibrarians but that none of them are harboring any negativeattitudes towards Comics themselves. On the other hand thestudy does imply that the image of the librarian who onlythinks that Comics are meant for children is still very muchalive in the collective subconscious of the librarians. The study also shows that while librarians of today tend tohave a neutral outlook in Comics the historically subpartreatment of comic in the libraries and the subsequent lack ofacademic support on the subject have made it necessary forthe librarian in charge of the comic-section to have apersonal interest/liking for Comics to be able to do a goodjob..

?Seriously seeking comics? ? Ämnesbestämning, klassifikation och indexering av tecknade serier

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine how Comics, here defined as a combination of text and images, are handled by the libraries in regards to subject analysis, classification and indexing. A comparative approach has been used in this study. First, common practices, methods and theories concerning subject analysis developed for documents consisting of text or images are presented. Then the current systems at two special libraries, specializing in Comics and consequently dealing with both text and images, are examined and related to the above mentioned practices, in order to discover differences and similarities.

Tecknade serier i bokhyllan: En studie i hantering och förvaring av tecknade serier på svenska folkbibliotek.

This thesis investigates the situation for Comics in Swedish public libraries. The main questions is separated into two groups, the first dealing with the physical situation were we investigate placement, cataloguing and shelf arrangement. The second deals with the librarians attitudes towards Comics and how they may affect their work. The base for this thesis is the idea that the comic medium may sometimes be treated different than the rest of the libraries collections. Because of this, a theoretical basis is developed which focus on different views on Comics.

Pox-rättegången, Mangafallet och Tintin-gate : en diskursanalys av debatter och nyhetsrapportering i svensk media om tecknade serier och censur

The study aims to examine how censorship and Comics have been discussed in three debates. The aim is also to identify discourses and the orders and relations of power constructed in the debates, and to examine how librarians should handle debates about censorship and Comics. Selected sources are articles from Swedish newspapers and tabloids about the debates on the Pox-trial, the manga case and the debate about Tintin in Kulturhuset. The results from the analysis indicates that the debates have been dominated by two main discourses: a discourse on freedom of speech and a discourse on social responsibility. Within the discourse of freedom of speech there is a range of perspectives that emphasize: artistic freedom, the need for open and free conversations, a discussion about how the Comics are assessed in comparison with other media formats as well as a discussion about moral and moralism.

Manga! Japanska serier och skaparglädje

This is a study of why Japanese Comics, so-called manga, in such a high degree make Swedish readers eager to write and draw Comics themselves, and what didactic implications this might have for teachers working in Sweden. To answer this, the author has put together a focus group of Swedish artists influenced by manga, and also used a questionnaire at two Swedish art schools, where young artists are taught how to draw in a manga style. The results show that it is the compelling storytelling and the focus on the characters that enthral readers about Japanese Comics, but that it is the seemingly simple style that makes the readers think they themselves can master it. The fact that the interest in both reading and creating manga, almost completely overlap with the so-called period of oppression (between the ages of 11 and 14) when most students lose interest in creating art, is something that could and should be used in the Swedish educational system..

Förebilder som bär bikinis : Claremonts X-(Wo)Men,Phoenix, Shadowcat och Storm.

The aim of this study is to analyse how pornography is used in the American Comics X-Men, published by Marvel under the authorship of Chris Claremont.I have applied Butler and MacKinnons theories about pornography as a performative speech, to this special art form. I have also investigated how censorship has influenced the Comics evolution and whether it has affected the way women and sexual and ethnical minorities are represented. To corroborate how these theories apply, I have analysed three main female fig-ures in The X-Men Comics - Storm, Phoenix and Shadowcat - and I have tried to identify how they relate to existing stereotypes. The conclusion of this essay is that the women characters in X-Men break the existing stereo-types and create new implications. This reinforces Butler?s theory about the possibility to re-verse hate speech and diminishes MacKinnons perspective of pornography as an imperative..

Självbild

I?ve been working with traditional materials such as ceramic sculptures and oil oncanvas. By using these traditional materials I can bring in more lowbrow aesthetic suchas package design, illustration, toys, animations, Comics etc. and transform it to somethingdifferent.Using this aesthetic and techniques became a way for me to communicate everydaythoughts on life as well as my most inner thoughts on how I think about myself. This report is about how I?ve been using these components to realize my master degreework for the Spring Exhibition at Konstfack in Stockholm, 2014.This report also extend my process of getting there..
