A carnival can not be stopped! A design pedagogical study of children and norms In Basel, the only Protestant carnival in Europe takes place. The carnival is called Fasnacht. For three days, there is a wild and uninhibited play with tradition, crossing borders and social criticism.The aim of this thesis is to expand the understanding of the concept of the carnival, and how to use it for an educational purpose. Three children from Basel have been involved in an workshop where they designed and talked about norms and power structures through the carnivalesque principle. The study is based on the questions: How can you use the carnival as a starting point for designing and talking about norms and power structures together with children? And; How can the design process support such a project? To spot this, I made arrangements for a design educational project.

Nowadays, packaging design is seen as a competitive tool and its importance for corporations is becoming increasingly apparent. The rivalry within homogeneous markets puts high demands on differentiation and the ability to create something more than the product itself. With this fundamental question, the soft drink industry has been examined and a case study of the brand Coca-Cola has been performed. The aim is to investigate how packaging design is used as a tool for strengthening a brand and to explore which additional values this contributes. In addition, the study observes the most important factors in the development of packaging design.A theoretical work of reference, consisting primarily of theories related to branding, design development and visual identity, has been developed to support the study.

The visual complexity in real-time applications, like computer games, is increasing with customer demands on vissual apperance. This trend is supported by even better graphics cards from the hardvare industry. This must be taken into consideration when the architecture of a new graphics engine is to be designed. The engines renderer is responsible of generating a picture of scene data. The renderer must cope with increasingly more complex scenes, and must be able to render them depending on available hardvare capasity.

Title: How can everybody learn to sing? A study about methods for meeting students with poor singing abilityI have based my work upon the question if everyone can learn how to sing. This study investigates the physical and psychological impacts that singing may have upon us and examines methods that can be used intuition. Concepts such as tone-deaf, amusia, poor pitch singing and monotones are discussed, and the expression ?sångsvag? ?singing weakness?) is put forward.

ABSTRACTTitle: Cultural dimensions? and their relevance in the interpretation of TV commercialsThe purpose of this study has been to explain the cultural dimensions masculinity versus femininityand individualism versus collectivism and see what their impacts on interpreting commercials are.We also wanted to see if there are any other important aspects to consider when looking at theinterpretation of TV-commercials. To fulfill this purpose we also used this research question:?How are the cultural dimensions relevant when it comes to interpreting TV-commercials?We used a qualitative approach when conducting this study. We found that the dimensionindividualism versus collectivism seemed the most applicable, while the respondents? answers fittedthe best to the highlighted theories.

I denna rapport presenteras en översikt över några befintliga metoder för mätning i 3 dimensioner baserade på bildbehandling och strukturerat ljus. Mätning via triangulering med laserplan och kamera beskrivs och har implementerats i Visual C++. En kalibreringsprocedur för denna mätmetod som med hjälp av laserplanet belyser ett referensobjekt beskrivs också och har utvecklats i MATLAB. Ett antal olika mätningar har sedan utförts med den implementerade mät- och kalibreringsmetoden och vissa initiala analyser av mätdata i MATLAB har gjorts för att ligga till grund för eventuell fortsatt produktutveckling och forskning..

Datoranvändningen i samhället växer för varje dag. Det är då viktigt att programvara håller hög kvalité, då vissa programvaror styr kritiska maskiner som exempelvis flygplan. Ett sätt att få kvalitativa programvaror är att använda bra utvecklingsverktyg. I detta arbete utvärderas fem olika utvecklingsverktyg: GNAT (Ada), Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft J++, Borland Delphi och Active Perl. Inriktningen på utvärderingen är mot utveckling av programvara för PLC-system.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has recently become increasingly important for companies to integrate into their ongoing work. CSR is about social, environmental- and financial responsibilities. The tourism industry often involves large impacts especially on environmental and social factors, which is why CSR-work plays an important role according to previous studies. One trend that has increased among consumers in the tourism industry during recent years is to travel to the lowest possible price. It has for example become increasingly common to book airfare by budget airlines.

Discussing light and lighting in the night-time environment of Tensta, a Stockholm suburb built between 1962 and 1970, this thesis suggests that lighting should be designed for the outdoor environment as a whole. The feeling of safety and human perception are important components in this thesis. Starting with some comments on visual perception and how we adapt our sight to an interval of the visual input we get, makes it possible to understand that more light sometimes hides, rather than reveals, things. This essay is a study of the motives and driving forces affecting how a food producer looks at, and incorporates, an environmental-labeling and its impact on their organization and strategy. Driving forces and motivations is an important part of a business strategy and impacts its content and its expression. Sustainability can be part of the overall company strategy but could also define the entire company. This study has shown that the main motive for working with eco-labelling is a genuine interest in issues concerning sustainability. This creates an opportunity for the company to communicate their environmental policies to their customers. For a company that works proactive and innovative with sustainability and climate issues, the new climate framework does not mean any major organizational or strategic changes.When the framework is incorporated in the organization the farms need to be analyzed with a climate impact perspective. In Sweden more than 400 000 private households have not yet sufficient wastewater purification. These effluent is considered as an increasing problem and many onsite purification methods have been studied. In this investigation, the method of reactive bed filters have been tested by column and batch experiments. Five different kinds of filter materials with reactive surfaces have been studied concerning their capacity to absorb ammonium and phosphorus from wastewater. The materials that were examined are Filtra N, wollastonite Filtra P, blast furnace slag and Polonite®.

Global climate change is one of the greatest challenges in our history. As the average temperature is rising due to anthropogenic emissions, impacts such as floods, droughts and hurricanes, affect the lives of millions of people. Though the least developed countries are least responsible for emissions, they are the worst affected. This thesis focuses on environmental justice in the adaptation discourse. By outlining the adaptation discourse from the United Framework Convention on Climate Change principles, to the Marrakesh Accords, via the Kyotoprotocol my ambition is to analyse how environmental justice has been interpreted in relation to the adaptation discourse.

Ever since Thomas More?s book Utopia was published in 1516, theutopian idea has not lost its topicality and has been strongly rootedin literature, art, film and architecture. Utopia can be seen as a statein which utopia allows a space for wishes, dreams and a desire forsomething better. In my degree project I have chosen to explore thehistorical utopian ideas to create a content that treats utopia on asubjective level. With visual communication as a starting point I havetried to fixate this state in a book.

This paper examines possible applications of fuzzy logic on the field of artificial intelligence in digital games. It describes fuzzy logic in contrast to crisp logic. The paper will give several examples of possible applications of fuzzy logic-based decision making for game AI. These examples include the choosing of weapons for AI agents and the gas-break decision of an AI-controlled car. The paper will also analyze the impacts of game AI which makes decisions based on many factors.
