The urban heat island is an area restricted to a city center where the temperatureis higher than its surrounding environment. The greatest temperature difference isfound at night when the weather is calm and the sky is clear of clouds. There are twomajor causes behind this phenomena and the first one is the use of energy forheating of houses. The heat leaks through the walls of the buildings and warms upthe surrounding mass of air. The second one is the use of building material whichstore the suns radiation on daytime and releases the heat during night.

This essay investigates the work situation for teacher educators at a university with focus on the subject areas education, research and administration. The research questions contain the work situation the teacher educators have, how they apprehend it, and how they find their position within the work organisation. Six interviews have been executed at the teacher education at a university. Some of the results from the investigation indicate that the teacher educators find education to be very a very demanding work and that the split of work during the academic year is uneven. It is important to identify the consequences of alcohol consumption among university students since over-consumption can lead to health problems and poorer academic performance. The following personality factors, neuroticism, conscientiousness and extraversion, have in previous studies shown to be related to alcohol consumption  and shown to be associated with the university students' alcohol use and living arrangements. This study examines the following question; Is there a link between university students' alcohol consumption, and;1) the personality factors neuroticism, conscientiousness, extraversion?2) their living situation?3) personality factors and living situation together?Participating in this survey was one hundred university students with a mean age of 23.4 years (SD = 2.6). To examine participants' personality, alcohol consumption and living arrangements, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (Costa, McCrae, 2003) questionnaire was used and the questionnaire also contained self-constructed questions about drinking habits, living arrangements and demographic questions. This study's results indicate that neuroticism, conscientiousness, living situation and extraversion predicts alcohol consumption (R2 = .354, p <.001). Thus, students who have these personality traits and circumstances one by one or together have a increased risk for alcohol over-consumption..

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka det kliniska användandet av melatonin vid sömnsvårigheter hos barn och ungdomar på barnpsykiatriska kliniker i Uppsala län.Metod: En tvärsnittsstudie genomfördes med en webbaserad enkät utformad i Google Forms. Enkäten sändes sedan till urvalsgruppen som var läkare (n=29) på barnpsykiatriska kliniker i Uppsala län.Resultat: Resultatet visar att 13 av 14 läkare förskriver melatonin och även circadin till barn som lider av sömnproblem. De diagnoser som läkemedel vanligen förskrivs för är främst ADHD, autism och depression. Förskrivning av läkemedlen sker till alla åldersgruppen, vanligast var dock från sju år och uppåt.Slutsats: Trots läkemedelsverket tveksamma inställningar till melatonin för behandling av sömnproblem bland barn förskriver 13 av 14 läkare i denna undersökning ut preparatet och anser att det fungerar..

The aim of this master thesis is to examine the opinions of the students of Linköping University regarding the role of the university library in their learning process. The study addresses the student?s expectations and satisfaction regarding the library services. The questions we seek to answer are: What are the students? conceptions of Linköping University Library as a part of their learning process? What expectations do the students have regarding Linköping University Library? Does the library fulfil the students? expectations? In what way has the library?s pedagogical ambition reached the students? What are the students? opinions about the user education? The study is based on a web survey complemented with interviews.

The Swedish teacher education is continuously changing along with the understanding of learning. The teacher education at Södertörn University has an intercultural profile, which is considered modern and innovative. In this essay, students? experiences from their practical training are analyzed to examine the correspondence between teacher practice and the modern teacher role conveyed by the University. The results show that some students have experienced practical training where the standards of the University?s teacher role were met, whereas others feel that they have not received the practical guidance needed to be able to wholly use their education in their future employment.

Vattenfall Heat Uppsala runs the waste incineration plant in Uppsala, which produces district heating, process steam, district cooling and electricity. Vattenfall Heat Uppsala has decided to introduce an energy management system with the aim to increase the energy efficiency of the plant. The basis in such a system is to make an energy mapping.In this thesis an energy mapping has been performed at the waste incineration plant with the aim to identify and determine the size of energy flows. The investigated energy flows are used fuel, produced and used steam, produced district heating and cooling. Also the use of electricity to run the processes has been investigated.

Analyze the cover images from the 2007 editions of the magazines Elles and Café, using semiotic analysis.? Analyzes eventual resemblances or differences between the two magazine's cover images based upon the result of the semiotic analysis.Material and methods: The study of Elles's and Café's cover pages has been done using a model built upon semiotic analysis, developed with the purpose of suiting observation and examination of cover pages of fashion magazines. The cover pages were analyzed from the categories character, context, and environment.Main results: The main results include the observation that both Elles and Café chooses well-known figures from women's fashion industry as prime characters on their covers. In Elles, all main characters are famous women emerging from the music, television and fashion industries. The women in Café are known for similar professions.

På grund av den urbanisering som sker i världen idag har förtätning börjat prägla stora städers utformning. För att bygga en stad som klarar av förändringar och som är attraktiv för människorna som bor där krävs det att den är hållbar. Syftet med kandidatarbetet är att tydliggöra problematiken kring begreppet hållbar stadsutveckling och undersöka hur arbetet med hållbar stadsutveckling bedrivs i byggnadsprojektet Smaragden i Rosendal. En granskning av dokument från Uppsala kommun tydliggjorde Uppsala kommuns målsättning kring en hållbar stadsutveckling. Intervjuer genomfördes med beställaren för projektet, Rosendal Fastigheter, och arkitektbyrån Christensen & Co.
