This is a study of a group of Swedish Travellers, and of the Traveller community, a marginalized group named 'tattare', skojare, tavring, knävling, dinglare, resande (Gypsies, pikeys, tinkers, Travellers), whose origins and history are unknown to most people.The purpose of the study is to find out what it is like to be a Traveller and look at the culture of Travellers, in older times and today. I have focused particularly on the women's situation within the culture, in the past and present.The study is based on interviews with 4 persons, from the Traveller community, one man and three women. During the interviews other Travellers joined and participated in the discussions and the reasoning.My conclusion is that the Traveller community is a group, which has been subjected to severe abuse by authorities, but still managed to preserve their culture. The interviewed travelers share a culture, in which women play a prominent role as breadwinners, for the family cohesion and in raising the children. Functions that gives women the role of culture bearers, meaning that it?s through women the culture is carried onwards..

This essay is an in-depth, qualitative study concerned with questions about female ?class-Travellers?. A class-Traveller is a person who is born and raised in a particular social class but changes his/her social belonging through studies, marriage etc. In this study I have interviewed three female class-Travellers, all of which have made their ?journey? through studies at the University of Lund.The study is an attempt to enrich the research-field of class-travelling by applying a feminist perspective, and by making women's voices about class-travelling heard.

We travel more to day than we have ever done before and there is an abundance of destinations to choose from. All -destinations have vantages and disadvantages and the things that are favourable for one Traveller can be the opposite for another. So the questions are, why do we have different opinions about the same destination and what is it that makes us choose one destination before another?The purpose with this thesis is to investigate if the demographic factor age has an influence on the Swedish Traveller?s opinion about winter destinations. The thesis also investigates if there is a link between the Traveller?s demography and their opinion of a destination.

Train travel has increased in Sweden, and future increase of train transports putdemands on the already vastly exploited railroad net. The increased need of capacitycan be seen in the ongoing and planned expansions of the railway track. One part ofthe railroad infrastructure which is affected by an increase of Travellers is the design ofthe station platform. Since the platform is the place where the Traveller meets thetrain, dangerous situations can occur in this environment. A number of studies focuson single safety risks, albeit there is no research to show the full picture of safety inthe platform environment.This study aims to treat and put together a compilation of risks for the Traveller in theplatform environment in the form of a checklist, which can be used as support inplanning and design of a safer platform environment for existing or planned platforms.The thesis has, through case studies of five ongoing projects within the NationalRailroad Administration (Banverket), interviews with train company personnel andinternational railroad administrators, identified and treated safety (and security) risksin the platform environment.The conclusion of the study is that the relations between the Traveller, the physicalplatform environment and the project organisation are important to explore andexploit when designing effective safety measures.

The purpose of this essay was to examine class-Travellers experiences of having done the class-travel and when they realised they had done it.My questions were: when did they start the class-travel? How do they experience themselves after going through the classtravel? How do they change as class-Travellers in their relationship with their surroundings?The study was based on interviews with six classTravellers, trained social workers who have made their journey through studies. In the essay I have analyzed and compared the interviews with relevant litterature/theory.My conclusions are that the experiences of the class-travel are different. The lass-Traveller of this study are recognized of being/have been part of two worlds or cultures. How long the class-Traveller has been in one of the worlds is of big importance.

This is a life story about a man, Victor, and his life. He was born into a family of Travellers, this has been a very important part of his upbringing, socializing and how society has viewed him.The purpose of this essay is to discuss how a society's values, and the changes in these values, are manifested in a life story. A person?s identity is created in the situations one is in and in the relationships with ones social contacts. A person has not just one, but several different identities that coexist and are highlighted depending on the situations in which we find ourselves.

The Swedish traffic system is congested, especially in the urban areas; Travellers face daily growing traffic jams and delays in public transport. In a congested traffic system, Travellers need support to make smart and sustainable decisions and one such tool is traffic information.One issue today is that too few Travellers use traffic information in support of their travel. Research shows that Travellers would see great value in receiving the information; however current systems do not meet their requirements. This is a problem since the society would benefit greatly from a well functioning traffic information system.In this report, a number of channels that can be applicable for providing traffic information will be explored, with particular emphasis on interference information.The information channels are analyzed based upon the needs and requirements of the society and the Traveller. The thesis of the report is: the more of these needs and requirements are met in a channel; the better is the channel to use for traffic information.

With increasing traffic congestion problems in bigger cities, it is becoming more and more important to provide the Traveller with correct information about all transport alternatives. When doing that, the Traveller gets the opportunity to make the best decision based on the current traffic situation. Instead of traditional travel planners, where public and private transport modes are presented separately, the co-modal travel planner offers a combination. In order to make the comparison correct and fair, the travel times have to be estimated realistically and on equal basis. This master thesis focuses on how to estimate travel times in the city of Stockholm for journeys by cars, public transport, bicycles and also for walking.An investigation of the available data on maps and travel times shows where the currently used methods are lacking.

Due to a globalised world business travel is flourishing. This paper examines how middle level executives, travelling a lot in their work at a multi-national company, feel about their travel. It looks for links between business travel and work satisfaction among them. A short presentation of the patterns of business travel and relevant motivational and stress theories is given. Data for the paper is collected using a survey (78 participants) and interviews.

Det är en betydande andel svenska resenärer som idag reser till och runt i Thailand som ?backpackers?. Mitt syfte är att ta reda på om den svenska backpackerdominansen i Thailand skulle kunna betecknas som en kolonisering. Material och metod består av intervjuer och deltagande observation med sju informanter, samt fältundersökningar som bedrivits i Thailand. Slutresultatet tolkas med hjälp av den postkoloniala teoribildningen.

The ?Kustpilen? that operates in Blekinge and Skåne is the case for our study.

Resandet mellan länder ökar allt mer och många resor går från rikare till fattigare länder i tropiska och subtropiska områden. De resande möter ett annat panorama av sjukdomar än i hemlandet och det vanligaste hälsoproblemet bland resenärer är turistdiarré. Inför resan söker många råd på en vaccinationsmottagning. Råd ges bland annat kring kost och vaccin för att förhindra turistdiarré. Syftet med studien var att undersöka det vetenskapliga underlaget för att sjuksköterskor skall kunna ge evidensbaserade råd kring kosthållning och vaccination för att undvika turistdiarré.

Travelling by train has increased during the last decades in Sweden. This has put pressure on the existing infrastructure and has created problems with delays and cancelled departures. The railway is a complex system with mutual dependencies and high vulnerability for disruptions. The situation for the railway system in the Stockholm region is today strained. The capacity is fully used.

The travel agencies exist on a market that is distinguished by increasing competition. A majority of the travel agencies offer different services that all satisfie the same customer need. However,one major difference in the market aspect is the service quality, this making it an important mean of competition. There are several acknowledged methods of measurement when it comes to service quality and it is important to use an instrument that takes into consideration the fact that charter tours is a complex merger of several services. The purpose of this essay is to establish if the SERVQUAL method is a suitable instrument for measuring service quality in the travelindustry.
