Marginaliserad kunskap? ?

The main focus of this master?s thesis concerns the relation between Subject representation, power and gender. Classification systems and Subject heading lists are products of their cultural and social context and some Subjects and disciplines are given a greater value than others. Our aim in this thesis is twofold; to discuss and critically analyse the prevailing gender norms that are expressed trough classification systems and Subject heading lists and to examine how they manage to represent gender studies as a multidisciplinary Subject in theory as well as in practice. We are also discussing the particular problems with the representation of multidisciplinary Subjects in general.

This study is a text analysis of 30 master?s theses, written by students at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science in Borås 2005-2008, concerning the Subject sociology of literature. The aim is to twofold; to show how the Subject sociology of literature manifests itself within these LIS theses and to produce discourse arguments concerning sociology of literature as an LIS Subject. The theorists I refer to in my study are Thomas. S Kuhn, Frickel & Gross and Richard Whitley, who devoted themselves to the theory of science.

The aim of this essay is to investigate how patrons, librarians and indexers use Subject headings to describe and index fiction literature. We wanted to know if the groups concentrated on different levels in the text from a semiotic viewpoint, where words either can describe the manifest/connotative meaning or the latent/denotative. To investigate this we had four fiction indexers, four librarians working with fiction for adults and eight library users read and index four short stories. After that we did interviews asking them about how they were thinking when describing the texts, how they use Subject headings, about their opinions on indexing and, in the interviews with the librarians and indexers, about their usual work assignments. The Subject headings they listed were analysed according to the level they described.

This paper discusses difficulties and Failures with being a Neutral and objective scientist when writing about a Subject which he or she is dedicated too.The purpose with this paper is to study the knowledge process, in other words, is some knowledge harder to see due to the scientist dedication to the Subject or is some knowledge constructed due to the scientist dedication to the Subject studied, and the process of intermediating, in other words, how to validate the results. Subject which is discussions are scientist objectivity, sociologist dilemmas, and different roles of scientists. The paper also deals with the importance of different perspectives and how ours choice of perspective influences ours research. Ethical state of conditions in interview situations and how we can reflect and criticise our own part and attitudes as an interviewer are also discussed in this paper..

Hur fungerar indexering av skönlitteratur? En konsistensundersökning

The aim of this master thesis is to find out how indexing of fiction works. I look at the consistency when users? choices of index words are compared with each other and I also compare users? choices to the current indexing made by libraries. I examine the Subject heading list, Att indexera skönlitteratur, to find out how well it works in this particular context. The investigation included seven users who, in three steps, are creating a Subject heading index of the Swedish novel Klippdockan by Cecilia Dahlheim.

The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how agents create their culture outside of their ?own? fields. What does this way of creating a culture mean for groups already existing on the field? Who ownsthe power to construct their own Subject positions? Through a discourse analysis, I analyse thesequestions through articles and interviews treating two cultural fields which I call ?The hip Berlin?and ?Swedish hip hop culture?. I argue that, depending on a persons priviliges, one owns the powernot only to construct Subject positions of ones own, but also for persons with less privileges in theexisting hegonomy of society..

This master thesis aims to examine the process of indexing fiction when it comes to area of sexuality and gender identity. The empiric work that forms the basis of the thesis are three investigations:(a) examining the current status of indexing fiction within the catalogues of six Swedish medium-sized libraries;(b) interviewing librarians who allocate the Subject headings; and(c) an analysis of the Swedish Subject heading system Att indexera skönlitteratur. This will be concluded with an analysis of the gathered material through queer theoretic standpoint with the help of critical classification and its inclusion through separation, and marginalization where Subjects that differs from the norm is included but only by being separated from the norm, or ignored totally. This will show that there are similarities with how different groups get treated within the classification systems and how they are treated in Subject heading indexing. An example of this in Att indexera skönlitteratur is that heterosexuality never is mentioned in the Subject heading but is always present as the silent norm, while gender identity is marginalized through exclusion of the Subject heading, and related words are instead being included under sexual identity..

Engelskämnet i grundskolans tidigare år

The intention of this study is to find out how the English Subject takes form and develops in the early years in school related to the curriculum, teachers, teaching material, students and parents. The methods of the survey have been classroom observations, teacher interviews, textbook analysis and a parents´ questionnaire. The findings of this study are that the knowledge of the teacher in and about the English Subject can have effect on how the English Subject will be presented to the students during the English lessons and the amount of the students oral production of the target language seem to depended on how much the teacher uses the target language in the classroom. The contents of the English lessons was overall structured by the curriculum. The parents and their interest in their children´s education seem to have had an impact on how much focus the English language get.

The purpose of this study is to explore students? perceptions and experiences of the school-Subject Swedish. Ten qualitative interviews with students in school year nine have been carried out and the results of these interviews constitute the basis of this study. The result shows that students have a straight-forward attitude towards Swedish as a school-Subject. The students identify skills such as reading, writing and speaking, and work in school mainly concerns perfecting these skills. The students think of Swedish as a Subject with a clear purpose and find it important and useful. The result also shows that the students want grading for the purpose of further motivation.

Geografiperspektiv

AbstractOur world is facing new challenges depending on the climate changes. The UN panel of climate changes has determined that the human race is responsible for the changes, but also that we have the opportunity to reduce the effects. This demands that the information reaches out to the public which means that the school system carries major responsibility to this type of questions. This also means that the teachers have to be observant, and give the questions the attention which is needed. The purpose of this essay is to see if this awareness exists today among active teachers and teacher students and if the perspective differs among them, but also their opinions is in agreement with the course plan in the Subject.

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to compare the scheme structure of two national classifications system, namely the Swedish SAB system and the German ASB. It has been assumed that there are no major differences between the two models of classification systems or the main classes into which documents are placed. The classification theory and Subject analysis, which form the basic theory on which my research is based, are taken from Dahlberg, Langridge and Rowley. A comparison of 30 monographs classified in the SAB system Sveriges allmänna biblioteksförening and in the German ASB system Allgemeine Systematik für öffentliche Bibliotheken showed that the classification structure was primarily responsible for determining where a particular document was placed. However, despite the fact that the Subject in various documents may be similar, my research will demonstrate that the structure of the two codes also depends on different interpretations of the main Subject in a document.
