Återväxt av blåbär (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) efter ångbehandling : orsaker till effektiv kontroll
Steam was used as a site preparation method to eliminate unwanted bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) in the boreal forest. The efficiency of Steam to suppress bilberry was compared with prescribed burning and cutting the bilberry. Different combinations of Steaming and/or cutting the bilberry were set up to investigate in which way Steaming and cutting influenced the sprouting and regrowth of bilberry. The regrowth of the bilberry vegetation was monitored for 40 month. Steam was most efficient in suppressing bilberry.

The purpose of the project was to exam Steams ability to sterilize carrots infected withLactobacillus plantarum. The project was a cowork with Brämhults Juice AB. They hadobserved an increase of Lactobacillus in the production of carrot juice during the summer. Tokeep the flavour of fresh fruits, the juice is treated carefully with heat. This means that thejuice only stays fresh for a few days, around two weeks for an unopened package and threedays for an opened package.In an attempt to remove the remaining Lactobacillus of the carrots, Steam is tested as an extrastep in the production of juice.
Interdependence between seed age and aerated steam treatment intensities
Aerated Steam treatment is a modern and environmental friendly method for seed borne fungus sanitation, mainly used on cereals. The method involves exposure to heat and high humidity, factors which are known to induce a fast ageing of seeds, thus resulting in reduced storability. This thesis clarifies the interdependence between seed age and the aerated Steam treatment intensities.
Two studies were carried out in this thesis. In the first study the storage longevity of seeds treated with aerated Steam was examined. The second study investigated the shelf-life of the pre-tests used to determine the aerated Steam treatment tolerance of a seed lot, by testing the treatment tolerance of seeds aged prior to the treatment.
Profilen och jag : En studie av användarprofiler och identitet på Steam
Internet och sociala medier har lett till att användare har fått möjligheter att dela med sig av information som i sin tur får representera dem i de olika virtuella miljöerna. Bland annat finns Steam som är en spelplattform med möjlighet att skapa samt ändra användarprofiler. Men varför väljer aktiva användare av Steam som har ändrat sin användarprofil att ändra den?Efter en enkätundersökning med svar från 50 deltagande skapades en uppfattning om användares valmöjligheter samt användning av olika funktioner som tillät användare dela med sig av information om sig själva via Steam. Därefter anordnades semistrukturerade intervjuer där deltagares svar ledde till diskussion kring olika begrepp som skulle kunna förklara anledningar till användandet av funktionerna på användarprofilerna.Resultaten i denna studie visade att de olika begrepp som beskriver varför användare väljer att ändra sina profiler är virtuell identitet, anonymitet och socialt kapital.
Energikartläggning av avfallsförbränningen i Uppsala
Vattenfall Heat Uppsala runs the waste incineration plant in Uppsala, which produces district heating, process Steam, district cooling and electricity. Vattenfall Heat Uppsala has decided to introduce an energy management system with the aim to increase the energy efficiency of the plant. The basis in such a system is to make an energy mapping.In this thesis an energy mapping has been performed at the waste incineration plant with the aim to identify and determine the size of energy flows. The investigated energy flows are used fuel, produced and used Steam, produced district heating and cooling. Also the use of electricity to run the processes has been investigated.
Omkonstruktion av testrigg för småskalig ångsmotor
The actual project presents the development of a testing rig for a Steam engine. A short overviewabout the development of Steam engines is presented, until arriving to the development of thepresent engine, which will require to be tested in different ways.The testing rig studied on this project (based on a Lanchester engine) will be used to testdifferent materials and layouts for the group Piston-Cylinder.The engine is a high performance Steam power engine, which is going to have a highpower/dimensions ratio, what will lead to require high performance components and materials.An introduction to the testing rig is presented, and the entire design project is done in order toreplace the disappeared documentation of the current testing rig, built on the 1970?s. Also somemodifications done in the original testing rig are presented, as well as some detected problemsand their possible solutions..
Utveckling av hygienfunktioner i diskmaskiner : Desinfektion med ånga
This report is the result of a thesis work in Integrated Product Development, regarding hygienic features in dishwashers and especially disinfection by the use of Steam.The thesis is performed at Electrolux Primary Development Dishcare in Stockholm and in collaboration with the Department of Machine Design at the Royal Institute of Technology.The targets of the thesis are to prove the advantages of a technology suitable to implement as a hygienic feature inside a dishwasher and to realize a functional prototype of a differentiated hygienic feature that does not exist on the market today.The process followed to perform the thesis is the process defined for Electrolux Primary Development.The technology chosen for development is disinfection by heating the water on the surface of the dishware, by the use of Steam.A number of tests on how Steam behaves when injected into the dishwasher tub have been performed, providing the results that have been taken in consideration when designing the prototype.The prototype consists of a pipe system provided with nozzles to eject the Steam into the upper parts of the dishwasher. Tests of the final prototype show that thermal disinfection of water in a dedicated area of the tub can be reached within 9 minutes. The operation requires 0,17 liters of water and consumes 0.2kWh..
Konstruktion av testrigg för moderna ångexpandrar
This report summarize what have been done during the Master of Science Thesis that Klas Schjelderup has written for the company RANOTOR Utvecklings AB. The company is developing modern Steam engines and this work should develop a machine to perform tests on a new type of piston seal that hopefully could be used in the future. The Steam engines will be both volumetric and energy compact, around 1600hp/literof cylinder volume, and it will have a lot of practical applications.The new type of piston seal is hydrostatic lubricated which means that a fluid is separating two faces that normally is in contact. In this case pressurized water is used to separate the piston seal from the cylinder wall. RANOTOR have earlier formulated that at least the expander in the modern Steam engine have to be oil-free, due to other components functionality in the closed water system.

In this thesis an energy analysis of ethanol production at the ethanol plant of
Lantmännen Agroetanol in Norrköping has been performed. The ethanol plant has
been studied in combination with Händelöverket, the combined heat and power
plant which provides the ethanol process with Steam. The purpose of this study
was to determine the energy consumption for the whole production chain from
grain to ethanol. The analysis has included the energy consumption for cultivation
of grain, production of chemicals, the production chain for wood chips, the Steam
production and the ethanol plant. The grain and wood chips are both considered
raw materials there for the energy content in these are not included as energy input
in the system.

Konstruktionstudie av en ångexpander
This thesis applies to a novel Steam expander, one part of a Steam engine system, a wobble plateengine. The piston in the expander moves axially with the outgoing rotating shaft and is locatedon a plate, why the engine type is called axial engine. When Steam is applied to the plungers theplate wobbles creating a rotation on the shaft going thru the wobble plate. The Steam expander issupposed to be used in exhaust gas recovery (bottoming cycle) applications and small scaleenergy production. The commissioner is Ranotor Utveckling AB.

AbstractThis report describes our ten week long thesis work which is the last task in our education in mechanical engineering at Linköpings University. The project has been performed at Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB?s service department. The company which is located in Finspång produces, sells and provides service for Steam and gas turbines around the world.The purpose of this project is to help Siemens develop their maintenance programs for two of the auxiliary systems which are a part of the complete Steam turbine system. These are lube and control oil systems.The project is restricted to two of Siemens maintenance products, No Stop Check (NSC) and the annual Safety Inspection (SI).

To invent an optimized product is a complicated process. This process is only half of the work. It is equally important to develop a production system that can produce the product in an efficient and ergonomic way.After several evaluations of conceptual and detailed drawings a final idea has come to light.The idea intends, to the maximum extent, utilize the facility in a more efficient way through moving assembly lines and stations closer to the flock section and the stock for complete products. To make the production better, stations are placed in more logical places given the assignment they are supposed to accomplish. This improves the material flow radically.
Analys av energiförbrukning, Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals AB
The main purpose of this project was to make a survey of the Steam and electricity consumption at Akzo Nobel Functional Chemistry AB and give suggestions of how to minimize them. These three different areas were focused on. First to make a survey of all the most important consumers, second to find the electricity consumption of the air compressors and the amount of waste heat produced from them. The third area was to calculate a model of how much fresh water that is used during a cooling sequence in the water based heating/cooling system of the reactors and give a suggestion of a suitable reuse for this water.The main result is a total survey of the energy consumption in Steam and electricity. The survey shows that the second largest group after drying is heating of ventilation which gives big potentials of reducing the total Steam consumption if there is a way of being self supporting in ventilation heat.
Analys och organisering av ö-drift för en samförbränningsstation vid Åmotsfors bruk
Åmotfors Bruk AB (ÅBAB) has today an inefficient production of Steam for the
manufacturing of paper. Unpredictable energy prices and modernisation of the current
equipment has been the underlying factors to invest in a thermal power plant, mainly
driven by garbage. This facility will not only use the Steam for paper production, it will
also generate electricity through a Steam turbine. Today, when a fault on the supplying
line occurs which leads to disconnection of the external grid, all the support of electricity
to Åmotfors Bruk (ÅB) will disappear. This will lead to major interruptions in the paper
production, which will cause severe economical losses.
