Detta arbete behandlar hur synen på vad social hållbarhet är och vad det uttrycks innefatta, men även hur begreppet används i praktiken. Detta görs med utgångspunkt i en teoretisk diskussion om vad hållbarhetsbegreppet är, vilket sammanhang begreppet myntats i och hur detta präglar dess användning och kraft. Liknande redogörelse görs därefter angående begreppet social hållbarhet. För att få svar på vad begreppet social hållbarhet betyder och innebär i en planeringskontext studeras därefter rådande forskning som länkar samman den fysiska planeringen med social hållbarhet. Detta material ligger sedan till grund för utredningen av och jämförelse med hur begreppet används i en praktisk planeringskontext.

Detta examensarbete beskriver processen för framtagandet av en ny design för det befintliga schemaläggningssystemet för räddningstjänsten. Ett av problemen med att schemalägga för personalen inom räddningstjänsten är att det är flera faktorer som måste tas hänsyn till. Några av dessa faktorer är vilken station de arbetar på, personalens kompetens, att det ska finnas personal på stationerna och arbetsroller. Syftet med examensarbetet var att skapa en ny design som uppskattas av de som arbetar med systemet. För att uppnå detta var de som schemalägger med och påverkade designen av systemet tidigt i designprocessen.Detta examensarbete innefattar en litteraturstudie, en förstudie, en intervjustudie, en fokusgrupp och två användartester.

Products and services have for a long time competed with their brands. For some time now, cities have begun to compete with each other to attract visitors and other stakeholders to come to their town. It is important that the citizens feel as they are a part of the message that the city sends out in its communication.Cities are today working actively with their brands, much like regular companies, in order to create the profile and image in order to be competitive against other cities and places. Cities and places are part of a dynamic process which includes both positive and negative events. These events might have an impact on the brands, and therefore it is a necessity to be able to react on these events to make the most of positive things and deal with the negative in a way that minimizes the effects on the brand.Citybranding as a research field is quite new.

We started out the study with a preconception of culture as something that creates difference between groups of people, which had been verified by our prior research. We also had a sense of culture as a polysemous term. Our assumption is also that there is an opinion within social work practice that Swedish social workers are faced with a cultural barrier when encountering immigrant clients.In this study our aim is to examine constructions of the terms cultural competence and culture. Constructions of the terms ethnicity and ethnic diversity are also observed, although the main reason for this is to show what relation these terms have to the terms cultural competence and culture, and how they may give each other meaning, according to the theory of social construction. In addition to constructions, we also aim to bring out discourses around the terms, upon which we will create a discussion about power and dominance informed by post-colonial theory and critical discourse analysis (CDA).

Detta examensarbete behandlar frågan om hur och varför Säve stationssamhälle i norra Göteborg kan byggas ut för att tillmötesgå den expandering som sker i regionen. Arbetet visar även hur en utbyggnad bör ske för att skapa ett hållbart attraktivt samhälle. I arbetet redovisas och analyseras de förutsättningar och restriktioner som finns för att bygga ut Säve stationssamhälle med tätortsbebyggelse för Göteborgs framtida bostadsbehov. Resultatet presenteras i ett övergripande planförslag samt i ett detaljstuderat område. Säve stationssamhälle ligger ca 12 km norr om Göteborgs centrum och är ett gammalt stationssamhälle omgivet av åkermark och med järnvägen dragen rakt igenom byn.

This paper investigates narrative and thematic structures in Damien Echols? autobiography Life After Death (2012) and Stephen King?s horror novel ?Salem?s Lot (1975). In Life After Death Echols tells the tale of his eighteen-year incarceration on Death Row in Arkansas/USA. He also uses his childhood memories to overcome hardships in the prison system. ?Salem?s Lot by Stephen King deals with the invasion of vampires in a small town in rural Maine in the North East corner of the United States.  The author of this study discusses if and how Damien Echols was inspired in his writing by the writings of Stephen King.

A growing need to strengthen ones position on the market, even as a city in competition with other cities, has resulted in an increasing number of municipalities developing brand platforms. When the city of Umeå developed their platform, they identified decision makers and investors as one of four important target groups.The aim of this study is to explore the portrayed image of the city of Umeå in two Swedish trade journals which addresses the specific target group decition makers and investors in both public and private sector. The aim is also to compare the image of Umeå in the two papers, to the ambition of the municipality, expressed in the brand platform.In order to make the observations as firmly established as possible, the method of the study is a combination of a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative text analysis. The study draws on the theories of Eli Avraham and Philip Kotler, concerning how to improve city images and how to market a specific city among others. The study shows that the city of Umeå in large extent is portrayed in accordance to the ambition which the municipality expressed in the brand platform.Umeå is displayed as an expanding city.

When establishing a groundwater protection area it is of great interest to be able to estimate the transit time of the groundwater from different places of the aquifer to the withdrawal well. These estimates can be uncertain due to heterogeneities in the aquifer. As a part of the work to develop methods for a more certain delineation of protection areas, a tracer test was performed in an esker located 25 kilometres NW of the town Uppsala.The purpose of this master thesis was to perform, describe and evaluate the tracer test. Travel times from the tracer test should then enable comparison against stochastic simulated travel times of the groundwater in the area.Three dyes (rhodamine WT, uranine and naphtionate) and a salt (NaBr) were used in the tracer test. The tracers were injected in four different wells located 25 meters from a pumping well.

Volvo GTO i Skövde tillhör tillverkningsindustrin och levererar motorer till lastvagnskunder över hela världen. Alla motorer som sänds på export går genom ett produktionsflöde, CBU-line. CBU-line är en monteringslina som sedan konstruktion 1996 inte genomgått någon större layoutmässig förändring, trots att uppgiften för flödet förändrats. Syftet med projektet är att genom analys ta fram förutsättningar för att kunna bedöma flödets kapacitet samt att ta fram fokusområde för kommande förbättringsinsatser.Flödet saknar i stor utsträckning det produktionstekniska data som behövs för att bedöma dess kapacitet. Baserat på detta har ett antal olika metoder används för att tillsammans skapa en bild över flödets nuläge.

In this essay the aim is to look at difficulties in preservation of buildings in general, andespecially the ones of the modernist era. To navigate in this huge field the study is narroweddown to take place in Finspång, a small Swedish town. In Finspång there was a swimmingpool facility built in 1967. In 2003 the facility was closed down due to its unusable conditionsand then after seven years with discussions of different plans about what to do with thefacility it was demolished in 2010. This case is the base in the essay, and why it was notpreserved.The purpose of this essay is to look at what the people in Finspång think about preservation ofbuildings with the demolished swimming hall facility as base, and what impact materiality hason questions regarding preservation, cultural heritage, memory and history.

SummaryAt the summer festivals and it?s campsites there are each year thousands of tents left behind. Last year, at the Peace and Love festival in Borlänge, 220 tons of garbage was left behind at the festival area, much of which is tents. 69% of festival goers have at some point left behind a tent on a festival campsite. With regards to how this was expressed in the local Civil Guard in the town of Vaasa. The focus   lies on the construction of an ideal masculinity within this specific Civil Guard as expressed            in the Guards own documents of different varieties, during the events in the spring of 1918 and at the one year anniversary of its outbreak. Genom ett synliggörande med aktiv interaktionligger projektet i gränslandet mellan kritisk design, interaction design och industridesign med fokuspå 'Design För Alla' frågor för alla.?Design För Alla? är en innovationsmetod som innebär att frågeställningar ställs på sin spets ochatt man utgår från och testar sina idéer tillsammans med dem som ställer högst krav och harstörst behov. ?Design För Alla? gör att man kan ifrågasätta gammal praxis och existeradereferensramar för standardlösningar och istället angripa en frågeställning utifrån nyaassociationsbanor och inspirationsingångar som gör researchen mer tillåtande och spännande.Ett av projektets viktigaste moment var en workshop med en grupp kognitivt nedsatta ungdomarfrån Höghammarskolan.

There is an irregularity in the interregional migration in Sweden. An increasing proportion ofthe population is drawn to the metropolitan areas, which creates problems for the smallermunicipalities and towns when their population declines. At the same time, our whole societyis faced with a great challenge: we need to redirect towards a sustainable development, wherethe environmental issues are discussed and dealt with to secure that all present and futuregenerations are given equal opportunities to live a good life.The aim of this study is to, focusing mainly on the environmental dimension of thesustainability concept, examine the attractivity of housing with sustainability claims. Toanswer this, three research questions were used:? Was the migration motive to reduce their environmental impact a part of the decision tomove, among migrants who had moved to housing with sustainability claims?? If the motive was a part of the decision, how much impact did it have compared to othermigration motives?? Which factors in housing aiming at sustainability are considered important by peopleliving in housing with sustainability claims?The research questions have been answered using quantitative data, gained in the form of selfadministeredquestionnaires which were distributed in four different residential areas withsustainability claims in the county of Västra Götaland, Sweden.
