Festivaltält i papper

SummaryAt the summer festivals and it?s campsites there are each year thousands of tents left behind. Last year, at the Peace and Love festival in Borlänge, 220 tons of garbage was left behind at the festival area, much of which is tents. 69% of festival goers have at some point left behind a tent on a festival campsite. Many of these tents is purchased very cheaply, for a single festival. These tents require a lot of energy in manufac- ture and transport, they are not made to be easily sorted at source or re-used despite it?s extremely short life cycle. The project idea is to design a tent adapted to a festival tents extremely short life cycle and after the festival visitors? other needs. If the tent can be made from less environmentally harmful materials, can be separated and sorted, energy can be saved in production of materials, production, transporta- tion and disposal. The material sack-paper proved to meet all the requirements that were placed, both from users and from an environmental perspective. Sack-paper is a very strong paper, that with a bio- degradable coating can be made completely waterproof. The project was made in collaboration with the paper pro- ducer Billerud, which has provided access to materials and knowledge of the subject. Organization Clean Town and Gästrike återvinnare has contributed with knowledge and answered questions about the handling of garbage and recycling.Festival visitors? needs and preferences have been investigated using a questionnaire and interviews. The project has resulted in a festival tent in paper and plywood, and also a sales concept. The project has focused on developing a tent with a clear environmental profile that meets the needs of festival goers at a festival campsite. The sales concept has been designed with festival goers in focus, but does also strive to reduce environmental impact by reducing unnecessary transport. The tents also serve as advertising media so that they can be fully financed through advertising revenues. The paper tent was then compared to an existing polyester tent from Claes Ohlson in LCA analysis to determine that the paper tent is actually a less environmentally damaging alternatives.
