This paper goes through Solar energy and what uses it has. It is also a guide in the choice of Solar collectors forthe real estate that I have drawn for the thesis work.Solar energy is a renewable source of energy from the Sun's light. Energy can be used to produce both heat andelectricity through Solar collectors and Solar cells. Some of the benefits of Solar energy is that it is completely freeto extract, environmentally friendly and virtually maintenance-free. Disadvantages are that the technology isexpensive, does not cover the entire energy needs and takes a long time until it pays.

Solar energy is the one most talked about among energy sources due to its huge potential amongst renewable energy technologies. A greater use of the Solar energy may be the solution to today's climate threats. Normally there are two different types of Solar technologies, Solar cells and Solar thermal collectors. Solar cells convert Solar energy in to electricity whilst Solar thermal collectors convert Solar energy into heat, which can be used to heat hot water for households. This goal of this study has been to investigate the possibility of implementing Solar energy into the energy system of Kista Galleria, one of Sweden's foremost venues.

Gotlands solelpotential

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the electric Solar potential on the Swedish island Gotland. The Gotlandic habitations have been divided into four house categories. For each category energy demand, roof area, geographic orientation androof tilt have been decided. Solar radiation data have been collected from the Swedish Solar radiation model STRÅNG (STRÅNG, 2012).The buildings characteristics and the Solar radiation have been used as input values in common Solar formulas, the Solar potential for each building category have been summed up to a total electric Solar potential for the region.The electric Solar potential on Gotland was calculated to 242 GWh/year with Solar data from 2010. Gotlands largest city, Visby, is marked as cultural heritage by UNESCO (UNESCO, 2012).

The technology with using Solar cells for manufacturing electricity, has been on the market for a while, but recently the new installations of Solar cells has increased. The municipal real-estate company is interested in Solar cells but wants to know more before they invest in the technology. This report contains an account of the Solar cell and a guide to how a connection to the grid is accomplished.

Research in Solar energy is taking big steps in both Solar heating and Solar electricity. It´s not only the technologies alone, but also the combination of both Solar electricity and Solar heating which is what is called a Solar hybrid. The idea of a Solar hybrid is that a Solar cells efficiency decrease with increased temperature and can with help from a Solar collector be cooled and the heat can be utilized. This thesis report compares heat production and electricity production with respect of, in first hand, a Solar hybrids geometry in the cooler. The theory chapter describes Solar heating and how different Solar cell technologies work and their environmental impact at the production and how compatible these technologies are for the Solar hybrid.

This report will examine various Solar energy technologies in order to decide if they could be applied in the Royal Seaport. The Royal Seaport is a Swedish urban district under development in Stockholm, with the goal of becoming a sustainable district. Two main techniques, Solar collectors and Solar cells, including sub-categories, are addressed in this report. Another sub-category, a hybrid system, will also be mentioned. The main difference between Solar collectors and Solar cells is the type of energy produced by the system.

This thesis is commissioned by the Swedish electricity trading company GodEl with the purpose of evaluate Solar electricity in multi-family buildings in the Stockholm region. The prices of Solar panels have dropped recently due to the advances in technology, but the installation rate in Sweden remains low. It is therefore interesting to study the  profitability of Solar electricity today, and if it is profitable enough to install based on profitability alone and not simply due to environmental considerations. Therefore this thesis first studies the profitability of Solar panels based on a simulation of electricity production and consumption for multi-family buildings this region. The study concludes that Solar electricity can be profitable in the Stockholm region under certain conditions; all of which have to be favourable for profitable Solar electricity.The thesis also studies the opinion of the company's costumers concerning Solar electricity.

This thesis deals with the possibilities of installing Solar panels on a property, the building is owned by Kornhillschurch and called Kornhill. The owners of the property wanted to learn more about potentials for installation of Solar panels on the property, therefore we described different types of Solar cells and Solar cells essential function to generate electricity in the report. Different factors that are limiting the generated energy are mentioned.An investigation of the property?s potential has been made in order to consider different designs. When sites that were considered suitable for Solar cells were selected, different design options were made, one for each site.

This degree project is an investigation of Solar cells and their ability to deliver electric power as well as reducing the need for cooling. The main object of interest is a BASE-X shelter. The shelter is purchased by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, FMV to be used for command and camp in the new force called Nordic Battlegroup, NBG. The demand on the equipment is firstly that it should have a small weight to be easy to transport and handle and secondly to be easy to bring up fast. Therefore the choice of Solar cell technology fell on thin film cells.

A home for elderly is planed to be built at Zakrisdal, Karlstad, Sweden. The heat source for the building was at the time not determined. In order by the local government of Karlstad this report is meant to examine if the need of heat could be provided only by Solar heat combined with a seasonal heat storage. The problem to solve is, if the need of heat from the home for elderly is provided from only Solar heat, whitch dimensions of the Solar collectors and the storage is needed?.

In today?s society climate change has grown to one of the largest global issues. To reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, large changes of the energy system are required. An increasingly popular solution is investments in local production of renewable energy resources like wind, Solar or geothermal power. The following report examines the possibility for implementing a Solar power plant on the new hospital Nya Karolinska Solna. Two different technologies for extraction of Solar energy has been studied, Solar thermal collectors  to meet the need of heating and Solar cells to satisfy the need for electricity linked to operating the hospital building.

Energieffektivisering ombord M/S Sydfart : Med hjälp av solceller

The goal of this paper is to find out how Solar cells can improve energy efficiency on-board M/S Sydfart. The paper is based on a number of energy measurements on board the M/S Sydfart. The Solar surface is calculated by measuring the available space for installing Solar panels. Global radiation data is taken from STRÅNG's database, the data is then used to calculate the theoretical power produced by the Solar cells. Energy efficiency is analysed in two ways.

Solvärme med säsongslager i Lyckebo

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and clarify the facts surrounding one of Vattenfall's district heating plants; The "Solar field" and associated rock cavern in Lyckebo, Storvreta. The plant was built in the '80s by the formerly municipal utility,Uppsalakraftvärme AB, as an experimental building. A ground water filled cavern would serve as seasonal storage of Solar heat from an adjacent Solar field. Since both the energy company and the facility itself has undergone major changes over the past 30 years, there was a great need to gather facts in order to provide a picture of its current condition and potential for continued use. The thesis investigates the plant's history and problems with the rock cavern losses, and how the operation developed. It also presents the calculations regarding the possibilities of again supplementing the facility with Solar energy - which is not the case today - as well as the economic conditions for it. Regarding a re-launch of Solar energy, primarily a concentrating Solar collector has been studied, as it has the advantages of an integrated control system.

Solenergi : en lönsam investering för ett lantbruk?

A possible way to reduce pollution and slow down the process of global warming is to increase the usage of renewable energy sources. One of these renewable energy sources is Solar power. With the aid of Solar panels and Solar cells the energy from the sun can be transformed into both heating and electricity. The requirement to use the sun in this fashion is a suitable surface, for example a big roof, an angle between 40-60 degrees and that the surface should be exposed to the south. Almost every farm meets these requirements.
