The ability to tackle NP-hard problems has been greatly extended by the introduction of Metaheuristics (see Blum & Roli (2003)) for a summary of most Metaheuristics, general problem-independent optimisation algorithms extending the hill-climbing local Search approach to escape local minima. One of these algorithms is Iterated Local Search (ILS) (Lourenco et al., 2002; Stützle, 1999a, p. 25ff), a recent easy to implement but powerful algorithm with results comparable or superior to other state-of-the-art methods for many combinatorial optimisation problems, among them the Traveling Salesman (TSP) and Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP). ILS iteratively samples local minima by modifying the current local minimum and restartinga local Search porcedure on this modified solution. This thesis will show how ILS can be implemented for MSA.

This is an examination of the Swedish unemployment insurance system and the effects it has on the Swedish long-term unemployment. A Search model is explained to give an understanding to the incentives of the unemployed. Different mechanisms that create unemployment and that could create long-term unemployment are investigated, but primarily the unemployment insurance is in focus. The Swedish unemployment insurance has undergone several changes the last fifteen years that have improved its efficiency. The introduction of a finite duration of unemployment insurance entitlement was an important step and so was the decrease in the replacement ratio. Even so, I assess that there is still room for improvements of the incentives to Search for work among the unemployed.

Kontrollerad vokabulär eller naturligt språk? En empirisk studie.

The question whether controlled vocabulary or natural language free-text terms is the most effective Search strategy has occupied reSearchers in LIS for many decades. This Masters thesis is an empirical study which aims to compare these two Search strategies in LISA Library and Information Science Abstracts, an online bibliographic database. 22 topics from the discipline of Library and Information Science were constructed and out of each topic one query for each Search strategy was formed. Queries in natural language were formed with terms from different sources, for example dictionaries, while queries in controlled vocabulary were built with terms from LISAs electronic thesaurus. The measures used in this study were precision, relative recall pooling method and overlap.

Aktiekursförändringar och sökfrekvens på internet

The purpose of this Bachelor thesis is to analyze if there is a correlation between stock prices and the amount of Searches of the companies names on Google. The theories used in the study were Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH). Regressions analysis is used as the statistical method to see if there is a significant correlation between the stock prices and the amout of Searches of the company name on Google. The data used were the rate of return of three companies (ABB, Oriflame and Sandvik) on the Nasdaq OMX Nordic stock market, the rate of return of the Nasdaq OMX Nordic stock market index (OMX Stockholm_PI) and the Google Search frequency from Google Trends on each company. The result showed no significance and the conclusion of the thesis is that there is no significant correlation between the three studied companies and their Search frequency on the Search engine Google..

Traditionally the content of fiction has not been described, analyzed, classified and/or indexed to the same extent as non-fiction. As a consequence, this lack of content analysis has resulted in unsatisfactory fiction retrieval in relation to users seeking and Search behaviour. This fact is why this Master s thesis is written. The total of library users' seeking and Search behaviour is investigated in order to suggest methods to improve user adapted fiction retrieval tools. Suggesting relevant fiction retrieval tools corresponding to users' seeking/Search behaviour is another aim of the study.

Since Internet has become a more important and more certain source of information the user require greater and more demands than ever before on the layout and function of different web pages. When Search engines gives us the opportunity to millions of hits in just a fraction of a second it?s essential to optimize the structure and architecture, which forms the foundations of all the content. In a time when a company?s digital footprint plays an important role for the costumer and the transmitter it?s of utmost importance to have a steady, well-structured foundation to build new platforms of information on.But how do you manage to build a good foundation? Some of the most important key elements in Information architecture are Organizing, Navigation, Search and Labeling. The aim of this study was to create guidelines for a user-friendlier interface, by analyzing the principals and gathered data.

Gymnasieelevers informationssökning : En undersökning av Carol C. Kuhlthaus modell

The aim of this Masters thesis is to, through user studies, analyse whether Carol C. Kuhlthaus information Search model is applicable in a Swedish school. Furthermore, the guidance that the students may receive from the teacher and/or school librarian is analysed. Answers are sought to the following questions: · How do the students perceive their information seeking? · How do the librarian and/or teacher support the students during their information seeking process? The study is based on a qualitative method of approach, through interviews with four informants: a librarian, a teacher and two pupils.

This Master's thesis in Library and Information Science aims to explore if personal patterns can be detected in web-Searching. It is based on a study where the Search sessions of nine test persons were video-recorded, transcribed into logs and analysed.A major objective was to find out whether there is a correlation between individual Searchers' personal attributes and their web Search behaviour. The logs were therefore compared with the test persons' results in a learning style test (Kolb's Learning Style Inventory) and with interview answers about information behaviour and personal background. While several patterns were indeed discovered, none of them turned out to be strictly personal. The nine test persons could be divided into five types of Searchers: the purely analytic Searcher; the generally analytic Searcher; the balanced Searcher; the mixed Searcher and the browser. All types of Searchers were found to have the attribute learning style in common.

This Master?s thesis is a comparative study of information retrieval results between three distinct Search strategies in simulated automatic query expansion in a bibliographic database. Our purpose is to investigate which of the Search strategies score the most effective precision and to what extent the same relevant documents are retrieved (overlapped). A thesaurus attached to the database is used to select appropriate descriptors for the baseline query formulations which subsequently are expanded with hierarchical relations. The Search strategies are s1: A baseline query with two or three descriptors, s2: The baseline descriptors combined with at least one Narrower Term, s3: The baseline descriptors combined with Narrower Term and at least one Broader Term.

The web is a constantly growing medium that presumably plays an increasing role in public library reference services. In order to provide high quality reference service the librarians need to be able to master this medium. Therefore it is interesting to get an understanding of how librarians actually use the web. The aim of this Master s thesis is to investigate what web Search tools are used by public librarians in reference service. Furthermore, the aim is to get an understanding of how the librarians think about those tools and what background factors influence their selection of tools.

Last spring I did a study where I studied how young girls where being depicted in Swedish novels of 2010. My ambition with this exam is to study how young teenage boys are being depicted in Swedish novels of 2010 and to compare this study and the results with the results from my study last spring. Throughout history we can see that boy?s novels have had the purpose to bring up boys into being adventurous. In the novels of 2010 we can see that boys now are being depicted in another more modern and contemporary way. From my analysis we can see that all the books have many things in common.
